Heroism is a much higher attainment than anything that occurs in sports. To be a hero requires taking risks and exposing yourself to jeopardy. Heroism requires nobility of purpose, some goal that is outside your own self-interest. And heroism may require sacrifice. Pat Tillman is the epitome of a Hero..

God bless his him and his family...

So Sad...

Why *what*, buddy?

Just making an observation that Vinnie blamed Bush for Tillman dying and caught all sorts of hell. Gardenweasal got that ball rolling and people were pissed. Vinnie even apologized and said he was wrong.

Fast forward to Skulldog, who attributes Clinton 'banging Monica' (of course, it's Clinton again) as the reason for Stillman dying and nobody says a word.

Seems kind of obvious what my point was.

Of course this is sad. Just like all the rest.

Scott don't f-up this thread you don't get it but why should you if you want to play bs stuff start you own, i would dare to say you can check anywhere tv, fox, msnbc cnn, radio it took me awhile to write it because u suck but i was why ahead of any of them because of a close friend who plays ball in the nfl very close to pat who emailed me, but not to take anything away from the people who fight for this country and who has my dad did and my oldest brother was in vn. My dad was stuck for 5 years in the shit holes of sp? new guina and those parts does not talk about it much but i have seen old black and white shots looks like a shit hole. But most people young ones who serve now do so because it is one a way to pay for college or 2 they were lost and looking for direction, This man had a contact that was over 2.5 mill a year for 3 years and 3 more years on the burner if things worked out, he passed it he had a 3.8 gpa in college witha degree so he had choices , he choose and never said a word about it, so spill your shit in another thread not mine, this was broke by me check any web site don't think anyone beat it, hell i posted it before it was confirmed but don't try to make it look like he was not special as i don't make it look like all our men and women are not special but he was a different cat, he did not need this but coming from you I expect your words , please stay out of my thread. You can't tell me he was not different or his brother from the indians, they were set pat more but trust me his brother would of and might make it when he comes back, and if you tell me that what i said about people in the service are or were looking to get college paid for or direction from a life not so could you are full of shit, last check pay is not that great, and those before him did not expect war i am sure,( young men and women) yes each life lost is bad but this guy had a life few of us could ever ask for and i will call that a lock!

I can post in your thread or in any other thread because this is a FREE country, for the very reason Tillman & others have died. May I suggest you return to high school for a refresher course in English before you post any more of your trash.

Nobody with a brain volunteers in the armed services for the benefits alone, without taking into account the risk of going to war ( it happened in 1991). For the most part, these young men & women also wanted to serve this great country of ours, including Tillman. Their loss is equal, but of great value & sacrifice to this country.

This is a sports forum, and even if this is the general area we all came here with the common interest in sports. And that's what makes this different to me. I have pride and try my best to honor every soldier who puts their life on the line for my safety. But looking at this from the sports world, we are in a time where money and ego dominates. It's all about show-boating, pulling out a cell phone, signing the biggest contract, etc. It's nice to know that there are still athletes out there that play for the love of it, and Tillman was one of them. What he did w/ the Rangers exemplifies this, and probably is why this hits more of a nerve with most of us. Again, for those of you that like to pick on every word people post, I'm not saying we care because he was only an athlete. I'm simply saying that maybe we care a little more because he represented what little is good in sports, and in life in general.

Just MHO of course.

And holy shit Kosar and the rest of you, can you let 1 freaking thread exist without making it a political forum? I mean really, couldn't this one thread maybe have gone on without your crap about this and that. Get a life.

:iagree: Feel the same way saint. This isn't about politics and who is responsible. This is to honor a fallen soldier who gave his life so we could maintain our way of life. Because we all love sports and recognize the gift of talent and the lure of money, we appreciate that someone realized that money wasn't the most important thing in the world. It takes a big person to do what Tillman did. I only wish I could honestly say to myself I would do the same thing he did. I truly don't know if I would be man enough.:( I thank God for all the people that serve this great country, past, present and future.

Here
It was a life that was given for our country. Anyone who has served this county knows it doesn't matter what you had before. Their are many more hero's that won't get this attention.

This is just not about Tillman as all of you have stated in your own words, it is about every man and women who has given their life fighting for the USA.

Tillman's death just put a face on it and proved to those doubter's out there that a lot of Americans love this country and are willing to give up everything even their lives to prove it and to keep our freedom and our way of life.

For those of you that have forgotten, freedom doesn't come easy and it never will. So with the death of a popular athlete right along with the "regular fighting men and women beside him, brings the message right back to where it is needed, here in the states, where by listening to the news, you would not even understand what the hell these people were fighting for.

Well Tillman's death has put a perspective on it, that people from all walks of life are over there fighting for a principle that alot of people can not fathom, love of country, freedom, and the American way of life. Hopefully people will understand that every American that is fighting over there is a hero and they are NOT dying in vain as some would have you believe.

God Bless each and everyone of them and their families.

Ctownguy and others, well said. I can speak personally, in that I, never in a million years could hack it over there being a soldier, and I wish there was more I could do to show all the soldiers my personal appreciation and outpouring support for the real heros in this country. I have a friend I went to high school with who is there, and he truly is doing great things and they deserve all the accolades andf everybody's support, Too often the truly important things get lost in the every day shuffle, It is terrible what happened w/Tilman, sounds like he was truly heroic for what he did, and this also brings light and maybe brings more attention and light to all the other people who have tragically lost their lives, Things like this make everything else seem trivial, this is a gambling and sports forum, but when one hears of this stuff, It makes me feel like an ass for spending so much thinking of sports and gambling and other truly trivial things, family, health and well being of everybody is really the true important things, May good bless the Tilman family and every other family who has lost a loved one, My thoughts and prayers are with you

I never publicize my personal views on what is happening via war, etc. It's an arguement that can't be WON, similiar to religion. But if you read what I wrote in my American heroe's post you will understand where I come from.

If you want to hear a little bit more about my views, and how I understand this man's drive, go to espn.com and listen to his soundbite. I feel he really puts things into a proper perspective.

Do not mourn for this man, he went out doing what he thought was right and correct. He wanted to serve and paid the ultimate price. Pat Tillman, and every other man or woman serving or that have served should be held up and rejoiced as people that are willing to stand up and fight with the ultimate price on the line for you and me.

Today, Pat Tillman and other's I salute you and everything you stood for when it comes to defending and serving our country! Your families and friends will be in my prayers, and I will also pray for more men and women just like you!!

correct me if i am wrong

correct me if i am wrong

i am not trying to stir the pot but.............didn't Simeon Rice say something to the fact that

He was not that good a player blah blah, and some of these guys have a rambo mentality... something like that. IT was back several months when he announced he was going back to the army rangers.

Maybe somebody has the exact quote?

Whatever he said he it was not very positive about someone who gave up an easy and wealthy life to put his life on line for his country.

It will be interesting in the next couple days, what Simeon Rice has to say now.

maybe that was why myself and other people thought he was nuts to go into the military when easy street was little more than a signature away.....

My thoughts were .........when I saw he was going to enlist.... sure I thought about what he was giving up but the biggest thing that I thought about was that there is more important things in life to some people than money and fame........you could tell this guy really tought about this decision and it was the right one for him.

Scott.............what I have been thinking about all day was the most ironic thing about Tillman was'nt that he was more important because he was famous.... but his dying made me think even more of all the sacrifices of all soldiers of every war not just this one. I think because of him we all will spend more time thinking about anyone serving this country.

While I don't think his death is greater than others that have died ,his circumstances put him in a most elite group. How many give up millions and celebrity to to join Rangers knowing your volunteering for the most hazardous of duty in the armpit of the world.
My 1st thoughts when hearing about it was to try and conceive the inner strengh and character it took for him to have such convictions. I am absolutely at awe of his courage.

Then I wondered what went through the minds of other alleged sports hero's that went so far as to change religion-be imprisoned ect to avoid the same he volunteered for???????

in case any of you are interested

in case any of you are interested

I saw this on the Cardinals website:

Pat Tillman Memorial Fund Set Up At Bank One

A fund has been established at Bank One in memory of Pat Tillman, the former Arizona Cardinal who was killed in action in Afghanistan on Thursday.

Deposits of cash and check may be made at any Phoenix area branch of Bank One. Checks should be made out to the Pat Tillman Memorial Fund, account no. 1599965140.

The funds will be directed by the Tillman family.

I am going to look up the address of a Phoenix branch and send them a donation. God bless his family.
