This is very sad makes me angry at Bush even more for sending these brave young men to death before they have a chance at life.

you are a piece of ****

its people like you with this European attitude why we even get attacked....you demonstrate weakness and have no respect for the cause which lives are devoted for

get off your high horse and be proud of your country and honor those who died for your sorry ass

these men lived and they lived better than you or i ever lived....they lived and died for a cause and if you aren't ready to die for anything which is important to you than you aren't living for anything.....

these men lived life the way it should be lived

The thing I remember about Tilman was he was ALWAYS flying toward the ball. He was obviously not the fastest...but, his heart was probably bigger than any player on the field.

For those that have to shit in this thread...shame on you.... show some respect for the true heroes Pat and his fellow soldiers are....and their sacrifices for YOU.

Just out of curiousity......I know a lot of posters on this forum had about the same initial reaction to this news.....

I'm not writing this to piss off all the patriotic people who already have or may respond to this thread....

But how many of you, having heard this news a few years back that he was going to give up 9 million to go into the military, responded with something like "he must be on drugs to make some kind of decision like that"........

Admit it, a lot of you had that kind of reaction.......if you was like anybody I talked to back then......all the people who I heard talking about that story and giving up the 9 million all acted the same.....they compared him to Lawrence Phillips for not staying in football for a few years and having the world by the ass.....

I'm not downplaying his sacrifice to his country......he gave up his life.....and as some of you have already stated in past posts in this thread, not many people would trade millions for a rifle and a foxhole.....he was definitely among the minority.......

Most people on this forum, myself including, have steady day jobs, work to pay the bills and have a little extra left over to enjoy other pursuits.......maybe that was why myself and other people thought he was nuts to go into the military when easy street was little more than a signature away.....

Those who might find this all a bit contemptuous, and maybe my last question might be viewed as contemptuous......the question being:

"Had he come back alive and well, would you still have viewed him as being nuts for giving up that huge contract?"

My guess would be yes, and that you'd be comparing him to the likes of a Mike Tyson or the forementioned Lawrence Phillips.....who both had big money handed to them but threw it all away.

garden said it best, this guy was totally a different breed from a different time. Such a refreshing change from the chest beating "I'm so great, look at me", generation of Sports heroes our kids worship today. I'm literally sick to my stomach listening to millionaire punks like t y law, complaining about his 9 million dollar contract, threatening to sit out the season, and actually spewing shit like this. "Well I have to eat to you know"

you have to go back 50, 60, 70 years to find individuals that possessed the balls & morals of Mr. Tillman. Ted Williams was my fathers hero, I remember him telling me several times he missed 5 full years of his prime fighting as a fighter pilot first in ww I I, and then in Korea. 5 complete prime seasons. Yet he still finished with 520 career homers, hit 400 etc. etc. as a kid I went to Ted Williams camp, and have witnessed him speak many times at various functions at Hall of fame and around Boston. Not once did I ever hear him say "if it wasn't for those 5 years I could have passed Ruth etc. etc." best of my knowledge he never said anything to that effect.

Pat Tillman must have been that same kind of person, throw back with proper values and beliefs. He is someone I won't forget.

May God bless his Family

Incredibly sad news!

for what it's worth....

I just got back from Vegas with a friend of mine who is a Chicago policeman. He works in the same district with my brother, but has been on much longer and I knew him before he was a cop. He said another cop that was in special forces (of some sort) just got back and told him some of what is going on over there. My friend said that we are wiping them out. There aren't the same pre-cautionary type guidelines as in Iraq and the battle can be fought in a more effective manner with the "gloves off". They are actually in more an offensive posture and are in a "seek and destroy" type mode and the enemy is destroyed at 1st sight. You don't hear about this from the media much. But, if anyone has noticed, you don't hear of many negative stories coming from there. I think the method they are using is working much more effectively.

i don`t think your post was disrespectful.....actually thought it was a thought provoking post and i enjoyed reading it....

i do think that the comparison of mike tyson and lawrence phillips to tillman is a stretch....

guys who threw millions away because of bad behavior and in at least tyson`s case,a low i.q.,to a guy like tillman who was obviously a very smart guy that allegedly pondered the decision for over a year and carefully chose which direction in life he wanted to pursue....

a bad decision now?....that`s easy to say....we have many sharp guys on this board.....i doubt that many of us would have made tillman`s decision..i wouldn`t have....

that`s why there are only a handful of ted williams`,audie murphy`s,joe delaney`s..........

the guy was a cut above......i don`t think true conviction, even at the price that tillman payed, can ever be called "nuts"....

thanks,shammy....hope you are doing well....

God Bless America.

God Bless the Tillman Family.

And God Bless all the family's who have had family members pay the ultimate price that allows us our freedom. That men would defend to their death others freedom, others they don't know, no matter their beliefs. It makes me swell with pride to be from this great country.

GW, if Clinton paid attention to the intelligence info he was given while in office regarding the 9/11 attack instead of banging monica, maybe we wouldn't be talking about this.

god bless all our troops and tilman you are a fine true american my friend, i wish there were more people who had your heart and pride---he signed up after 9-11 just to go and protect us and the american dream, you and all our brave men and women are in our prayers

vinnie responded a bunch of liberal bs earlier in the thread and its people like you vinnie that make me sick, tilman and millions of americans like him are over there fighting for our freedom, to protect us all, even people like you so we can live in peace and do the lthings we love----tilman and our soldiers make this possible so dont bring your liberal left wing bush hating bs in this thread, start your own

when i heard the news it really hit, i felt like i knew the guy, when he joined after 9-11 i didnt question why he did it, i applauded the guy cause he going to fight for what he believes, football would be there when he returned now sadly those f,ers ambushed us again liek the cowards they are---as you can telll im pretty pssd over the news, i would love to go over and kick their aases myself but i cant---tilman you gave up alot as soldiers do more than just football but familyas well, and i salute you and your family god bless you all
