Jesse Jackson was already involved in the Issel situation. Demanded more minority hiring and wanting his group to get a piece of the pie, if you will. He's an equal opportunity opportunist.
But let's face it, what Issel did turned out to be a public relations nightmare for the Nuggets. Groups threated to boycott, etc.
And look at how "harmless" Al Campanis' comment was. I personally don't agree with him getting fired. But it just shows how sensitive things really are, and how powerful threats of public backlash can be.
Heck, like Nolan Dalla said, if we wanted to send the NBA or NFL a message on a number of issues let's all stop going to and watching their games. Won't happen though.
