I am not sure if he will coach for USC against UCLA, or if he will coach USC in the Orange Bowl. Not good news for a team who is trying to win the NC.

Might be a smart bet taking UCLA and the pts this weekend if NORM won't be coaching. If the replacement is Kiffen, he is the WR coach and has NEVER been an OC.

Funny thing is Chow might be taking a pay cut. He def. won't be making a lot more financially.

can't imagine that he wouldn't finish the season with SC unless they relieved him of his duties...any reason to think this would be the case?

Wow! I have not seen this anywhere but here. But if it is true, I would say OU has a much better chance to beat them. In fact, I now think OU will beat USC if that is the way it shakes out.

No matter whatTrojans says, if this is true, it will be a distraction and in my opnion keep them from winning another NC this year. so sad

Why would they announce this at this time. i haven't heard anything yet but I just ogt home from work. Doesn't make much sense for this to happen right now. Do you have some sort of inside info to back up this bold statement, or am I just out of the loop here

Scott,

Has this been finalized? I think it's a bad move on his part when some other openings are more appealing. Stanford has tough academic admission standards that make it hard to recruit athletes that do not score high on SAT's (according to Bill Walsh) and he will not get the athletes like he had at USC. I guess Urban Meyer to Notre Dame is a done deal from the info I have been getting. The Florida job is still wide open as they were wanting Meyer and the spectulation on Butch Davis seems to be nonsense to me as he is burnt out and needs a break.

chicago radio is reporting he will probably take the job, but stay w/ SC the rest of the year. reminds me a bit of last year when Mike Stoops was going to leave, but than stayed on i think for the last 2 games of the season. result 0-2

i've heard chow speak on local radio and i wasn't impressed!!!
radio question: how did you guys turn it around at halftime?
chow/answer: ohh i don't know, ask pete. he is a great motivator.

radio question: whats your impression of wr.dwayne jarrett?
chow/answer: wow he's real good, hopefully another mike williams...

this guy is a career assistant, a ron zook, buddy teevens or a paul hackett. he was absolutely clueless!

Norm is gone. Good news is he will be coaching at USC through the bowl game. This still will be somewhat of a distraction but not a disaster for this team this year.

Carroll has planned for this and even lobied for Chow to get head coaching job. The players were also told that Chow likely will be leaving. I have heard the the new OC for USC will be great and is already a done deal. Ink has not been signed yet so nobody can give the name yet.
Remember, Chow made $500,000-$750,000 for being an OC for USC. No OC in the country made that type of $$$. Carroll already has his next OC pegged. He sure wastes no time and is already planning for next season.

What I don't understand is why Chow did not stay one more year. USC absolutely returns EVERYBODY on this years offense. Only lose 2 starters. However, USC gets back 3 starters from last years offense that did not play this year. Chow would absolutely light it up and get a better coaching gig next year. That said, the new OC will have it EASY and USC fans will not miss Chow.

I like a more run oriented offense. Smash mouth football. That is not really Chow's style so I am sorta in a small way happy about Chow leaving. As long as he stays through the bowl game! USC needs him!

I sorta agree with you. If I was the Stanford AD I would NOT hire Norm Chow. He is not really made to be a head coach. He doesn't like to recruit. Carroll + staff have done all the recruiting not Chow. Chow also hates talking to the media. PLUS he never has any head coaching experience and is almost 60 years old.

Chow would be successful if he coached at lets say TEXAS. Hire an awesome DC and Chow handles the offense. Similar to Carroll/Chow now. Texas is an easy school to recruit and is rich in talent. His staff can recruit at Texas and Chow won't be so vital in recruiting.

I have read/been told many times that Chow is the brains behind USC success. That is false and USC will be even better next season. Chow is a great OC but he did not run the USC program or recruit.

This might sound stupid, but I rather lose Chow vs Carroll, DL Coach Orgeron, or OL Coach Davis. Those guys are far more important than Chow was at USC.

And of course if Chow goes you also probably lose your prize recruit in Sanchez. He was quite clear that his primary reason for picking USC over texas was Chow.

Yes and no. You def. are right Chow was big part in Sanchez committing to USC. But CHOW was not really involved in Sanchez recruitment. He just loves NORM CHOW.

USC is fine if he leaves because Sanchez would not be starting until 3-4 years from now. Booty is already #1 after Leinart and Sanchez would have to battle it out with QB Hinds after Booty.

My money is Sanchez stays committed to USC. After his verbal, he said USC is the best place for him and to get into the NFL. After seeing all the talent Carroll has brought in the last 2+ years, he will stay committed.

What if Leinart wins the Heisman and USC wins NC? 2 Heisman QB's in the last 3 years, 2 NC's in the last 2 years. 2 and maybe 3 consecutive #1 recruiting classes. Not sure why he would leave UNLESS early playing time is an issue with him. Obviously it is not since he already verballed to USC knowing the QB's already in place at USC.

PLUS when he hears the OC USC will replace Norm with, he won't be leaving.

Maybe Chow not so gone. However, I think it might be done behind closed doors. Here is what the "inside" source said. If he is wrong about this, it will be the 1st time ever he has been wrong. He got many USC fans riled up.

If I am a betting man, CHOW IS GONE and he will be going to UTAH, BYU, or Stanford.

"I have never been so happy to be wrong although it may end up being only premature. Like another poster, I heard yesterday the deal was done...that is not the case. My source was outstanding and was not from the SC program and were confirmed by a Stanford contact. Suffice to say that there are contingency plans in place if Norm leaves that make me feel great about the future no matter what happens, but my preference is and has always been to keep Norm...I hope we can. I learned about the contingency plan but was told it was a done deal, not a contingency plan. Sorry for any heart attacks, high blood pressure and spastic bowel syndrome I may have contributed to with my confirmation yesterday that Chow was in fact leaving. Against my better judgement, I confirmed what was posted. My apologies to all. "

Here is what I am hearing, Chow has had second thoughts on Stanford and was never even completely offered the position but he is clearly still in the race if he chooses to leave USC. According to my people the same one's that toldme six weeks ago that Spurrier to South Carolina was a done deal, Walt Harrisis the first choice of the Stanford Administration to take over the program and initial conversations have taken place. Who will make a big push for Chow will be BYU as they will be terminating Crowton by the end of the week and thefolks in Provo just love Chow and he has a history with the program. Now if Harris leaves Pitt, the Panthers will pursue Dave Wanstadt for the job as he is thought to be more sutied for the college game and the pro's and has lived in the Pittsburgh area in the past. Meyer will be given the ND job and the only possible roadblock to this would be if money becomes a huge issue but ND is allready going to their boosters asking for support to bring a solid coach in. Washington had originally targeted Chow but he has passed on the program and the Huskies want to bring in a proven winner to coach so they have had initial discussions with Willingham, but these talks have not yet heated up because Willingham wants to see just what is out there as he could pursue a OC position in the NFL or may take a year off and see if the UCLA position opens up next year. Florida thought they had Meyer but now have been informed that their is very little chance he will come to Gainesville now that ND opened up, thus they may turn their attention to Butch Davis even though I still think the guy is completely burnt out. Another opening that will occur soon is Indiana as Dinardo will be termed either today or by week's end and Frank Solich is the front runner for the position.

Are you referring to XBox or playstation? :) Auburn has a very good chance of jumping over the Sooners after this weekend...

Indiana would be abolutely nuts to hire Solich. Being from Nebraska, he ran Nebraska's program into the ground in 6 short years. Solich would set Indiana's program back another 5 years at least. If he can't recruit players to Nebraska's storied program, how the heck can he recruit anyone to Indiana.
