Above the Clouds....
The stewards changed their minds today and said Chrome (and others) could wear the strip.

Although I don't agree with rule changes just to get a champ at your track it is a step forward for NYRA.

ridiculous for so many reasons.

they changed the entire rule for ONE horse. they would rather have the publicity than keep the game clean.

so many reasons this is shady.

they werent going to let O'neil put one on Ill have another a few years ago, but now theyre changing the rule because theyre pressured by the owners.

completely ridiculous.

call the owners bluff. like they are going to not run in the Belmont and try to be the 1st triple crown winner in over 30 years because they cant wear a nasal strip? a nasal strip mind you that they claim has no performance enhancement to their horse.

yeah right!

fact is, the nasal strip or something else with this nasal strip has improved this horse tenfold.

this horse was running figures youd see put up by a claimer, not a Grade 1 horse. Sherman said since putting the strip on theyve won 6 in a row. interesting, because Chrome made a incredible jump up in his figures 6 races ago.

Thorograph, which is by far one of the most recognizable and reputable figures out there had chrome running figures aroun 12, 10, before his jump up....his jump to a 1!!!! that kind of jump is unheard of without a "bounce" and Chrome has not bounced once yet. since putting the strip on he has run around 1 or 0 in his last 6 races. the jump up cant be attributed to surface change since he raced on both poly and dirt previously in CA.

the nasal strip, IMO, is undoubtedly a performance enhancer for this horse. its really not even debatable if you look at the figures and knowing what we now know about Sherman saying when exactly they were put on.

I wont even get into the topic that from what I understand, most illegal drugs to revolve around/work better with the horse getting more air.

the main beef I have with this is the handicapper. this information isnt published in the form. we dont know when nasal strips go on, or when they go off. we dont know when a horse is trying them for the first time. this is valuable information because this piece of equipment caused this horse on the brink of a triple crown to improve tremendously. how is it fair to the betting public when equipment which can improve horses tremendously is not made public knowledge.

the sport seriously hurts in the transparency area.

and these owners really come off as douche bags.

they claim the strip makes no difference, then why even threaten to possibly skip the race?

ill be against Chrome heavy in the Belmont regardless. he looked extremely tired after the Preakness and the Belmont is going to be demanding. much stronger field, deep track, big sweeping turns, and he isnt going to be loose on the lead. if Social Inclusion goes, hes going to make Chrome work for it.

I'm personally liking the chances of Chrome not even hitting the board. could be some huge payouts.

Just terrible

Just terrible

Tellya, how can you not be totally disgusted what the hell is going out there .. ALL OVER - the economy, government, greedy bastard decision makers for big (and small) busnesses, even the no. of commercials on TV, even the "buy one and get one free, er.. just pay shipping and handling GIMMICKS, etc. Once upon a time we watched television for free (ain't kidding), put air in our tires for free, drank clean water for free. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY and the publics highest priority of keeping their noses glued to mobile devices. These addictive "toys" (only that for approx. 90% of the people that use them) are performance boosters as well.. leading to HIGHER blood pressure, HIGER anxietiy, HIGHER tensiion, HiGHER stress, BIGGER bellies, HIGHER insurance premiums, and LOWER eyesight being the only exception. And the efficiency of every major country is gonna spiral downward due to all these things as well IMO.

Damn, they can't even get a freakin Chinese take out right; just yesterday the zombies forgot to put the dang egg roles in the freakin bag. REALLY!

I don't know where all this bullshit is leading to because it's gotten too high and too deep to reverse, but I feel pretty sure it ain't good.

Getting back to the subject at hand... are they gonna allow trainers shove a rocket up the horses ass next? OF COURSE, these nose bandages/enhancers are performance improvers and now ALL the freakin horses will be running with them wrapped around there snoot. Will they start to fluck up the record books next and ruin the record breakers of true champions that are in there now; you know like the basebawlers did?

You know them trotters and pacers too, great

You got that right; Kelso. Some of them started to use it and many didn't maybe on account of the expense. PLENTY of harness horse owners ran those horses at a deficit. I used two publications for capping the standardbreds the days before they ran... Sports Eye and (oh man, you gotta go WAY back for this baby).... Doc Robbins.

Even after the Meadowlands opened, we used to drive right past the Meadowlands, cause I lost plenty at that place, and straight to good ole Yonkers Raceway. Absolutely LUVED that 1/2 mile bull ring almost to the point where I paid almost no attention at all to the thoroughbreds for years. I write about the "dirt bags" at Philly in my posts with respect to the fact that the horses there are far from the quality of the major thoroughbred runners for the most part. But asfaras Yonkers goes - THE DIRT BAGS THERE AT YONKERS WERE ON THIS SIDE OF THE FENCE that separates the "fans" from the race track. :mj07:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think Sports Eye did make some kind of marker like an "*" or something like that which indicated that the horse would be running with the modified sulky. Of course, IF you actually went to the track, which was about the only way you could bet them harness races before OTB.... you could easily spot those modified sulkies. Funny.... you could also just listen to the carriages and be able to tell who used what cause them OLD, wooden sulkies sounded like they needed a grease job (wheel bearings squeaked and the wood creaked) LOL.

yep, you're right Jim,

The Sports Eye and the Yonkers program had a marking for the modified sulky.

I remember guys standing on the crossover sidewalk just across the street selling those Clocker Lawton and some othe sheets.
LOL....Hilarious....Who could ever forget those days.

MONEY NEVER SLEEPS PAL....LOL:0008

I started going there 42 years ago. When Bullet Bob Meyer was "comin' on"..LOL:toast:

Something else

Something else

We're horseplayer CLONES just like the horses in them Breeders Cup races, Kelso.

I'll only add that -> "making a Yonkers sized bet (pretty big) on a Carmine driven horse at something like 3/1 and watching him getting on top of the field and bring that cheap claimer home all the way" was all I needed to make a night at that place PRICELESS. There may have been plenty of dirt bags at Yonkers in those day, but they sure as hell put their money where their mouth was and laid it down at the windows; I've seen some mighty big moneybags trading back and forth at the windows there in those days.

One regret I have is that I picked the wrong place to try that dangerous stunt, did it more times at the thoroughbred tracks. and shoulda done it more times at good ole Yonkers (not Roosevelt either). Fact is I've done that less times than the no. of fingers we got on our hand, thank goodness. My guess is I'm prob. about 2 for 5 (wouldn't doubt it that Carmine was on both of the winners) or maybe even 2 for 6, tempting that dangerous addiction. Came a LONG, LONG way asfaras money management and sanity goes and found the game to be much more friendlier these days.

The way I see it, which of course may be wrong.... IF your objective in this game is this :s1: or even this :0071 . It takes three things to "make it happen" with playing them hosses - Some (or more than that) LUCK, good handicapping and reasoning which comes from experience and learning as much as possible about how this game works (IF IT DOES WORK, that is) , good money management. IF you want to add one more objective -> knowing WHICH RACES to "send in the heavy lumber as in $$$$:", no. 3 goes down the drain and you accomplish this -> :0026 .

BTW, my advanced course :mj07: includes "focus on one or two, at most, wace twacks" I do one.

HERE'S THE BEST ONE (prob. a shocker for almost ALL MJers, LOL) ... . . do you remember how the tellers figured out how to pay off winning tickets back then? Do you remember them MECHANICAL driven pencils that ran throughout every teller's window? The guy at the end (or front end?) would WRITE down the prices and there were mechanical arms shaped like this -> "/\/\/\/\/\/\" that had a PENCIL attached that would write exactly what he wrote at each teller's window on a regular piece of paper the prices. Totally mechanical process. I used to get a kick out of watching that pencil being driven by the invisable man. The teller would figure out what to pay the bigger or mixed bet types on winning tickets by using a cheap calculater, pad, and pencil.

Yeah, my last trip up north 5 + yrs. ago (N.J./ N.Y. area) was a bit disappointing without hearing Bullet Bob's voice anymo. Also there was a tremendous pile up on the track that night. Harness racing is one dangerous game; too many horses and drivers got killed on them tracks. I've seen, more than once, drivers continuing the race by flying way high over their fallen horse and if more were coming his way, he was in DEEP, DEEP poopie. :(
Still had a good time that one night we hit Yonkers with a couple of my old RTJ buddies (er.. RaceTrackJacks) during my stay up there :)

We might be boring the hell out of other members, so I sent you a "friend invitation". Click on my name and you can click (on the left side of that screen --> "Add a friend"). After that you can see and reply to personal (not really that personal cause every member can see them if they go to your profile page or mine as well.. but the "guests" cannot. :)

If it's too much trouble .. no sweat, we'll always see what we got to "say" right here in this forum.
