Step away from the Cheney/Bush Koolaid.

---and which Koolaide was that--elaborate please.

Maybe you could give us some examples on issue?-- like these.

Obama in 2007 speech
?Whatever we once were, we?re no longer a Christian nation.?

Pssst-hey Gumby- Fact of matter U.S. is comprised of 78.5 Christains

--or the flip side

"if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we?d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world,?

uh excuse me once again Gumby-

Fact of matter U.S. has about 2 million Muslims

in comparison* there are about 200 million Muslims in Indonesia, 196 million in India, 165 million in Pakistan, 132 million in Bangladesh, 75 million in Egypt, 64 million in Iran, 33 million in Morocco, 32 million in Algeria, 31 million in Afghanistan, 26 million in Iraq, 25 million in Ethiopia, 24 million in Saudi Arabia, 20 million in China, and 15 million in Russia, to name just a few countries. In fact, there are 2 to 3 times as many Muslims in Burkina Faso (approx. 7.5 million) as there are in America. So obviously, one can see why the president would say the United States is "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world."

You're compairing apples and oranges Spy.

Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor was an act of war and the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs ENDED that war. On the other hand, 9/11 wasn't government sponsored, so it was an act of terrorism, not an act of war.

Thank you, for I no longer have the patience to respond to Spy in a civil manner.

Wayne, can you give me the link to this speech, or maybe the paragraphs around that isolated quote - or was it a partial quote that you grabbed and left the rest out? I'm thinking when campaigning for President in '07 that he probably didn't single out and alienate the Christian population (he is a Christian, by the way, as you know) in the U.S. as you are trying to make people believe.

Wease, did you just call Obama "Hussein" in your response? Is that the tact you are now going to take, jumping on board with the conspiracy theorists you rail on when others on a different side than you post simple name games? Just curious how far we're going these days - I think you know I give you more credit than some - although you have avoided a few of my questions lately. Understandable with all the clutter in here of late, as I mentioned to Wayne in the other thread, but you never know when people are not answering for a reason, either.

Chad... DTB's quoting from this blog: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2...m-double-standard-our-first-dhimmi-president/

Since the campaign, right wing evangelicals have been cherry-picking from the speech (below) that then Senator Obama gave on June 28, 2006 at the "Call to Renewal" conference in Washington.

Which did you want Chad the his quote conserning Christianity or Muslim or both. I will retrieve at office tomorrow.(bookmarked)

What I found interesting on his speech--after trying to distance himself as much as possible from muslim roots prior to election--all of a sudden before Muslim crowd he speaking of his roots-name and every association he can find.

Has anyone not figured him out yet?

He missed his calling--

I posted the link to the blog you pulled your propaganda from and video of the actual speech.

What more do you think he needs... a phone call from the President himself?

"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and nonbelievers," Obama stated during his speech before a crowd estimated by security officials at about 1.8 million.

Yeah, so what of it? We are NOT a Christian "nation." A majority of citizens of the United States of America are Christian. Great. That has absolutely nothing to do with our government (or it shouldn't).

We were comprised of Christians-Muslims-Jews-Hinudus-Athiest 50 years ago also so WTF?

Regardless of how you or Gumby try to make us appear in his words "one of largest nations in the world"

the prob you have is in the #'s 78.5% Christians and maybe 1 % Muslim.

---so you can spin it any way you want but doubt you get anyone- other than maybe Trench or Spongie to bite. :)

Okay, so the context WAS important, along with the entire quote. As he explained the theme, he certainly did not just make that stand alone comment. The very next sentence gives us proper context - which you and other right wing attackers conveniently leave out for political purposes:

During a June 2007 speech available on Youtube, Obama stated, "Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers."

He went on to talk about the dangers of the religious right who hijack an entire party for their own political means (remember the separation of church and state, anyone?) and to talk of what this country is really all about, or should be.

Now, if you can find one of those "other" quotes or speeches that leaves the comment as a stand alone message, fine, otherwise, your post is misleading. That's why I asked - if you don't follow some of this stuff up, it becomes a talking point for certain individuals here (and elsewhere) that have trouble with more than a sentence or two of provided sound/print bites.

All this, of course, coming from a man who is a member of the Christian faith (except for those too ignorant or racially bigoted to admit it...) who has the vision and faith to challenge those who use his faith for political and financial gain, on the most public forum possible. Certainly different ways to look at this one - despite your efforts.

P.S. Who cares what the hell anyone in government says about religion.
I do Tramp. Because I think it's important (as Chad mentioned) to have leaders who respect the principle of the seperation of church and state. Obama has reiterated his position on this in numerous speeches, including his inaugural address. Here's a recent video of Obama speaking to this point again while in Turkey...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QIVd7YT0oWA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QIVd7YT0oWA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Notice where Obama says... "I think what we're seeing in both countries (U.S. & Turkey) today is that promise of a secular country that is respectful of religious freedom, respectful of rule of law, respectful of freedom, upholding these values and being willing to stand up for them in the international stage."

Without the seperation of church and state, the agenda of the majority religion (by default) is merged with the agenda of the political majority and we no longer have freedom of religion. The irony is that evangelicals know this but they also know the majority religion (in the U.S.) is Christianity so they're willing to sacrifice freedom of religion to carry out their self-serving agenda.

Thought I answered your highlight area above in post #30--Would you like me to repost it?

The right is playing soundbite gotcha with the "Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation," part of Obama's statement. No doubt, many Christians do consider us a Christian nation and would understandably take offense to that soundbite. But the broader context of Obama's speech is an affirmation of his staunch belief in the Jeffersonian ideals represented in the Separation Clause of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

DTB's either playing the same gotcha game or he's unable to grasp the overall context of Obama's speech. In either case, I can't say that I'm surprised. ;)

The gotcha game was invented for guys like DTB. He falls for it over and over again. He leads the madjack site in being caught in a gotcha game and then 15 guys show him how wrong he is and he just goes on to the next one. Sadly he sees nothing strange about these actions. I have heard that psychiatric wards are doing wonderful things nowadays but every time i try to lead him to one he just goes right back to the next gotcha game. Wash, rinse, repeat.
