It was a horrible call and it sucks that there is no way to review it, but the kid showed he is a hell of an improvement from the Dontrelle Willis and should have locked up a spot for the rest of the year.

UPDATE: Jim Joyce has spoken to the media and is man enough to admit that he blew it. According to reporter Dave Hogg, Joyce is "devastated."

"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."

"Biggest call of my career, and I kicked the shit out of it."

Peter King (who was clearly not present at Comerica Park tonight) adds: "What a great moment in Comerica: Jim Joyce apologizes to Galarraga, Galarraga accepts, they hug. Class by Joyce, incredible class by the kid."

it actually looked like joyce was ready to call him out--as was readied to throw the "punch"ed out call with his right arm ready, though weirdly flinched into a safe call. crazy.

i dont think anyone would argue if MLB changed the ruling on this game

I agree BUT if you change this game....it sets a precedent for the future. That's why Mr Galarraga will be credited with a well thrown, 1 hitter :(
i agree.

even crediting him with it wont change anything past name in record books. everyone that saw what happened that knows anything about baseball credits him with the perfect game, the foul up jus makes it less celebrated... but galarragga handled it phenomenally i must say

seems alot of recoird worth happenings coming around more often as of late -suggested the steroid breakdown helping with pitching records- though, i think i'm spoiled with all of it, to not be able to appreciate the difficulty in feat. dont get wrong, its not lost on me how hard it is to do what these guys been doing lately, jus... less appreciated? perhaps what with the frequency of them happening. thats just me, my 2c.

Luck is part of the equation in achieving a perfect game. Good fortune clearly did not shine on AG, as it had for Braden and Halladay before him......

Joyce owned up to his error, and the kid showed grace I don't have. Mistake by an old pro, handled graciously by a young pro. I was glad to see it end that way.

All the kooks calling for Joyce's job are insane. After all, his mistake did not even alter the outcome of the game. I think anything more than a reprimand from his employer would be an excessive course of action against Joyce in this case.

MLB gave Joyce the choice not to take the field in Det... He declined and will be behinde the plate... Galarraga will bring out the line up card.:0002

Joyce is a stand up guy. He was very emotional when entering the field and during the line-up card exchange. I can't imagine how hard that had to have been. It was also good to see a few of the Tiger players come up to him and give him an acknowledgment. Unfortunate situation for both Joyce and Galarraga. A lot of class shown by both men. On the plus side, Chevy gave Galarraga a new convertible Corvette before the game. :00hour
