Jan. 28th was the last cigarette i have smoked....

like i have said before, i am 26, younger then most posters, but i owe you a big thanks for convincing me of quitting...

i have only smoked for 8 years....the first 5 years it was more of a casual smoker, maybe a half a pack a day.....the past 3 years, i have been around 2 packs a day, and hated the fact that i allowed it to get to where it did.....i attempted to quit multiple times, but never was able too......

after reading some of your posts OLd school, i decided it was time to make a choice, before it got too late....i saw how you had smoked for many years, and quit....i read your posts about adding days to your life, and thought about my daughter....

i am so much healthier already and feel so much better about myself.....i honestly cannot believe how easy it is now that i am to this point...i have no desires to smoke, nor do i wake up trying to catch my breath! it was so mentally challenging the first 3-6 days, but once you get past that, its EASY!!!

i didnt want to post before i knew for sure i had kicked it, but i am very thankful that you were able to share some stories to help influence me in the right direction....I am saving nearly $10 a day, and literally feel great......i cant belive i ever got to the point where i was smoking 2 packs a day.....i can remember my first year of college when my coaches would try and talk to me about it, and i only pretended to listen and care.....now i really do care, and see exactly what people are talking about.....

thanks again to all who have shared their stories, and shed a little light on how much better life can be :toast:

It's easy up until the second that it's not.

Congrats, man, but it's not over. Good luck!

I've quit 3 times for 3 months or more. This third time is 10 months. Can't imagine smoking again with my daughters around, but. . . .I wanted one yesterday. . . so I think it's going to be a life-long fight. This story always works for me

When I quit, I stopped all drinking for about 6 weeks. The first test was drinking beer at a Ravens game. I made it. The next test was Vegas. I made it. The next test was Vegas again and I smoked the last day, then stopped again.

After about 6 months you shouldn't get anymore urges. Matter of fact, the thought of smoking will disgust you. You can smell people 15 feet away that just smoked. It's disgusting.

I made it 2 years and 2 months and started again
I'll save you the details but NEVER smoke another cigarette again, EVER. And that includes cigars. Stay away from them.

Now I'm on day 12 smoke free with a long way to go to catch up to where I was.

Smoking blows.

congrats but it aint no where near being over.

I quit in August of last year.

Had a health situationn with my wife and started back on cigarettes in December . Smoked about a pack a day for the month and then quit again in Jan 1, 2012

Been doing really good but I smoked a cigar yesterday while driving for work which is my weakness on the road.

Today I had the urge again and I am wearing a nicoderm patch .

Them things are wondermous.

I get the first step for 50 bucks and its the most powerful.

I only use them to take that edge off when I really want a cig.

I am feeling strong again to not smoke.

Too many years gone by with the cigs.

got to stop now.

good luck

I think if 6 mths go by and you dont smoke, then you can say you may be close to kicking.

I hate when stress enters into it.

But I guess thats why I always loved to smoke in the first place.

quit 3 years ago, was the toughest hurdle I have had to over come. Over 30 years of smoking....man, I went through hell for about 3 months and then every once in a while I crave one. Weight gain, about 30 lbs from when I quit.

Food tastes better, No wheezing during sleep, no loss of breath going up the stairs, and no smelling like an ashtray!!!!

Glad you made the decision now, as you will never regret quitting, I kick myself in the ass all the time for not quitting sooner.....:0074

HELL
Congratulations. I want to join in this conversation too....quit chewing (Copenhagen) cold turkey at the end of November after about 20 years of it. About 2.5 months in still clean....

Regarding beer or drinking, stay away for awhile. It helped I was pretty sick all of December with sinus infections and meds, so I didnt drink, but it is hard given I bowl twice a week and there are many that do it.

Stay with it. I am a workout freak and no shit I put on nearly 12 pounds since I quit, WTF? I dont like that but its all for the better.
