My father-in-law is 75 years old. He wants to buy a lawn mower to maintain about 2000 sq ft of bermuda grass maybe once a week during the growing season. What brand/size lawn mower do you recommend?

get him a front wheel drive 22''..
they are easy to handle and turn real easy because he will be able to tip and turn because of the front wheel drive..
rear wheel drive are a lot harder to handle for us folks a little up in age..
I would tell ya Toro or Craftsman from HomeDepot or Sears but I don't think either come w/ a speed control from those stores..
check with your local Toro or similar make dealer ..They should have a speed controlled 22'' w/front wheel drive..
Again..forget the "Personal Pace" despite what someone may tell ya..
There are hundreds of them in the junkyard because they breakdown due to the design..
going to check Toro site ..be back hopefully w/a suggestion..
He will be safer with one that has the speed setting on a lever right on the handle..they can be run at 1-2 or 3 speed....I even use "1" on days by knees are killing me..but mine are rear wheel drive Hondas and not easy to maneuver like front wheel drive..
Again.. The "personal pace" are garbage so do not get one of those...

if he can handle a Honda w/rear wheel drive he will be set...They bag the best of any walk behind and mulch even better..two blade system w/blade stop

Better than the Toro and has the so called ability to let you go slow or faster..they work ok...we use 2 of them for leaves every year because you don't have to keep firing the damn thing up...they bag and mulch the best of any walk behind other than the 700 dollar Honda..
at 400 bucks this is a solid machine...again rear wheel drive...but easier to tip and turn than the bigger Honda's...

I've never tried a rear-wheel drive mower, but I imagine it can't be that easy for a 75-year old man. I don't see him being able to drive or do much of anything in 5 years. He doesn't have a big yard. You have any suggestions for a front-wheel drive?
Dude. Get your dad a lawn service and save him from a fucking heat stroke. Need exercise? Walk at the mall in the summer, paved trail outdoors in spring and fall. Light jacket weather.
60 bucks 44 weeks out of the year with no gasoline costs and don't forget maintenance.

w/2,000 square feet one of the good guys who cut in the neighborhood might do it without costing ya a lot..
see if ya can run into a lawn guy over that way..
explain the situation...I have two I do for 30.00 every ten days and on the weeks it can go a few more days I double back and save them some cash..
cut ..edge and blow at 90.00 a month April thru Oct..now leaves are another story..

I hardly ever agree with Joker but this time he's right. My mom is 93 and she pays her 17 year old neighbor kid $20 to cut and edge her lawn, rake the leafs, gutters, etc. and any other yard work that's needed.

If he is anything like my father, 90, he wants to do it. He can't do the whole yard but he does take the mower out every so often and does a small section. Everyones health is different of course but at 75 he had no problem cutting the grass at his house. I have to say the variable speed is very important at that age.
That's a good deal. No kid in North Georgia would do it for less than $30. If one would I'd gladly pay him to do my yard.
