A tibia on a young healthy man should not break like that. I wish they would get him off the court and get him some medication.

It doesn't take that fucking long to immobilize his leg and get him off the court. Wth!!

Hope there wasn't some underlying problem that caused that.

Yes, I think exactly, but caused in a different way. Compound fracture of the tibia and probably fibula as well. That's a plate, screws, no weight on it for 6 weeks, and then another surgery possibly to remove that stuff later.

I was in other room and missed it and super glad I did.

Some louisville players on bench vomited when they saw his leg.

That type of break needs to be set, immobilized and wrapped with ice right away, or yeah, it could cause him to lose that limb below the knee, only seen this happen once before in college baseball, never in basketball, hyperextensions yes, not breaking/snapping a tibia!!

I feel for the kid!

I'm sure Rick never saw anything like that either, he had tears flowing for that kid!!

Hope he's ok!

any danger that a break like that could affect the femoral artery?

I don't think so. Lots of smaller arteries down there, but I don't think bleeding was much of a concern here. I have broken my fibula before which is a lot less painful than that, and it hurt like a sob.

SixFive...I'm not sure if you are a medical professional but, you are exactly right in terms of, for a healthy young athlete, the bone should not break in that manner.

Perhaps there is an underlying issue and this is a good thing to get that diagnosed and treated. Hopefully he is OK although the medical support could have been quicker. I don't think they were used to dealing with this sort of thing and we are used to the speed displayed during a football game.

They were very slow. It's a terrible injury but really not that hard to immobilize, scoop, and roll. It's not like it's a spinal cord injury where substantially more injury could happen if not taken care of correctly.
