Not sure what any of that has to do with the double standard in this country as it relates to how black and white perps and victims are portrayed or ignored in the media when it comes to racist actions. You do not have to convince me that the black man has had and still has it harder than the white man as any logically thinking person can see the carryover still exist its just not as explicit. I will say again, if you want to rationalize the double standard based on passed actions then go for it, but it does exist. Not sure if you have me confused with someone else, but I am and have been specifically talking about how the media handles/covers racist actions from/by various groups in this country. All the side stories and conjecture we could go back and forth on for days.
Uga,
At no time am I singling you out, I promise.
As far as media presentation of the news stories of the day and how it relates to color I really can't agree with you there. I do not think that white on black crime is more sensationalized or that there is a media bias towards sensationalizing it. For instance, when the justice department released their findings of the Michael Brown shooting. I saw plenty of news claiming that Wilson was vindicated of any wrongdoing, which wasn't true, they just didn't have enough evidence to indict, but little to nothing about the majority of the report that talked about the pattern of discrimination and fraud from the Ferguson police department. With all the findings released by that report, I would have thought that would be major news.
I will say that I do think that white on black crime, more specifically white law enforcement, has been more reported in the last few years, but that's the nature of our media lately. The majority of national news agencies are far more agenda driven than in times gone by.
This particular incident of lack thereof is a bit if an anomaly in my opinion. I understand the reaction of some to say, "if he was white" and so on. However, I think that feeling is energized by the consistent stream of recent reported incidents of white law enforcement brutality and discriminatory practices. I believe many are frustrated by seeing story after story of unarmed blacks being shot by police so when they see something like this, or the story of the cop trying to save the life of a little boy accidentally shot in a gang shootout, they want to use it as a weapon to negate all the other stories. Unfortunately, those stories are too few and far between.
This is all my opinion on it and is not directed at anyone individually.
Hope this helps,
FDC
