The 17-year-old unwed daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is John McCain?s new running mate, is five-months pregnant, Palin and her husband, Todd Palin, announced Monday in a written statement.

?We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,? the Palins said in the statement. ?Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We?re proud of Bristol?s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.

?Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi?s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.?

Strange how Fox has it first!

What kind of values is she teaching that girl?

Kind of funny to see Dems think this is a big issue....shouldnt they be volunteering to kill it or have us taxpayers take care of it for the next 80 years?

Sun,

I don't know of any "Dems" who have responded yet as this just got out. The tabloids are going to have a field day and the biggest issue may be that this lady has huge distractions as she prepares to take over on the most important jobs in the world. Also, you have to think that the McCain folks did not know about this before they made this decision.

They claim they knew, but I tend to doubt it. Although it is possible and they intentionally decided to announce it on a day when nobody will pay much attention

True, but probably not the start they wanted to the convention. She must be under a hell of a lot of stress.

The McCain aide insisted a key point to keep in mind is that Bristol decided to keep the baby, a decision "supported by her parents."
............................................................

a key point would be statutory rape as in Alaska 17 is underage.

And she was 16 when she got pregnant ?

wow these Republicans are something.

Pro Family

she didnt tell us she was pro life and would use her daughter as a example.

The Alaska age of consent laws are unique. The age of consent in Alaska is 16. This is the age at which an individual may consent to have sex with someone over 18, legally, in Alaska. It applies both to heterosexual and homosexual acts.

The minimum age to marry in Alaska is 18. People under the age of 18 can marry with the consent of both parents. The prospective bride and groom should bring certified birth certificates, and their parents should present valid identification.

In Alaska, as in many other states, the laws on statutory rape depend, in part, on the age difference between the two partners. The law recognizes statutory rape only in cases involving an age difference of more than 3 years. A 20 year old man who has sex with a 15 year old girl, in Alaska, is guilty of statutory rape. A 17 year old male who has consensual sex with a 15 year old girl is not guilty of statutory rape, under Alaska law.

First degree sexual abuse of a minor is defined as someone age 16 or older engaging in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 13. This crime carries a sentence of up to 30 years in state prison.

Under the Alaska age of consent laws, it is second degree sexual abuse for someone aged 16 or older to engage in sexual penetration with an individual who is a) at least 3 years younger and b) aged 13, 14 or 15 years old. This crime carries a sentence of up to 10 years in state prison.

Fourth degree sexual abuse occurs when an individual under 16 engages in sexual penetration with someone a) at least 3 years younger and b) under the age of 13. The penalty for this crime is up to one year in state prison.

Isn't it amazing how all those Conservative, religious, Republicans are now defending teenage sex. Kind of makes those girls from Glouster MA not look so bad anymore.

According to the way this copy/paster translates the law it doesn't matter. So why are you concerned with it?

By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, "some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. Then the story got worse. "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," the principal says, shaking his head.

Are you really drawing a comparison to this?

Maybe the worst part about this whole situation is between the young girl and boy. Marriage is pretty tough. Parenting is really tough. Starting your marriage as a parent has to be exponentially tougher.

Now add to that, due to their now very public life every move is going to be sliced every possible way.

On a lighter note, if McCain/Palin don't win maybe Fox has an instant hit of a new reality show on their hands!

Ok. Bad joke.
