It's similar to a drug dealer having a manageable habit for the time being.

He's got a lot of talent that keeps his habit "profitable".

I think this is where Scotty Nyugen, Doyle Brunson, Eric Seidel, and the likes set themselves apart.

call it what you want but i think he's on an extended and nearing the end of a huge good luck streak.

yeah, i believe there is luck because i had it at one time.

my luck, when i was his age, was there, baby. i caught my flushes, straights, didn't have the big bad beats, etc, etc. it's gonna catch up with him sooner or later.

he just pissed away a million bucks in less than an hour? how many millions does he have, i don't know, but you can't keep doing that shit, like ever. if he has 20 million, which i doubt, that's just crazy blowing away a million like that. jmo

he's got over 1 million bet on himself that he's going to win a bracelet this year. he prob won't!

i like the guy though.

what else?

stuey?

Just guessing, but I'm thinking the camera was "hidden". The casino won't allow you to just walk up and say, "Mind if I film?"

Jack, didn't he win the million back both times? In the first case he said he "won a little", and on the second, he was up about $150,000 when Greenie said he either walks with a little or leaves even after this roll.

I'm with you, Jack.... Ungar was the first person that I thought about while watching that debacle.... Yeah, it would be nice to be able to lose 1 mil at the table and walk away laughing, but that's just not for me.... I'm a little more protective of my earnings.

Ungar.... Great analogy. :SIB

Unfortunately these guys are ridiculously intelligent and talented when it comes down to poker but they really do have that degenerate streak in them. I agree with Jack...he can't keep that behavior up for long without going belly up. I guess degenerate is a bad word because of its negative connotation, but I really think it applies. Even for us who sit here and bet on sports, etc....we all have that certain part of us that likes or needs that action.

What was more surprising to me was how "thug-like" ivey was. He always seemed like the white-guy acting black guy. Hopefully you guys know what I mean and I don't get flamed for this. But at the tables he's always seems well spoken, etc...but with his boy there the thug talk and the way he pronounced things definitely took a 180. Maybe those of you who have played or watched him play can explain.

After reading "The Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King" it was clear just how close these top level pro's are to being broke.

And you are correct it seems Unger was too. He also had a major substance problem. That only made it worse.

But you all know, no matter how much cash they have they have even more credit available.

These Pros know that their select group has found a way to be rich bums. That is all they really are. They know that as a group they all have enough cash surrounding them for them all to stay bums if they keep borrowing money to each other.

It doesnt matter to them to go broke. Its a pain but if they go broke, Ivey for instance would have a million in cash on him in about two hours.

After a month or two he could turn that Million into 5-10 and he's right back to losing 1 Mil playing dice at the Wynn.

Ivey is a wild man, but i think its a good thing that he is such good friends w/ Barry Greenstein.. Greenstein really has his head on straight when it comes to money management, and i think he will keep Ivey in line...

I read Greenstein's book 'ace on the river' and its a good read.. funny part of that dice video is when Greenstein says to Ivey "you've got more money than me now" (or something like that) which is crazy to hear...

Check out the video of Barry Greenstein's home.. (click the video "a tour of the Greenstein home"):

was just reading Pauly's blog (Tao of poker), and he wrote that Ivey has a 2 million dollar bet on the Lakers to win the championship this year. He was writing about him sweating out the game 3 win.
