Last year around this time some one had a thread going about different phone co. who was the cheapest for long dist. carriers and such. Just thought I'd let you know that ALL co. are now competing with our cell phone providers and I was able to get a plan threw SPRINT for $59.99 per month unlimited local AND long distance plus all of the features call waiting,ID,unlimited directory assist.answering serv, ect this only on personal home phones they do not have any plans yet for business lines:shrug:so don't miss the boat, it was well worth the 10 min. on the phone I save about $110 a month in long distance calls and I can call where ever when ever for same price now (59.99) worth looking into ;)

For general use. I see that Sam's Club's a division of Wall Mart. Has calling cars you can buy for 3 cents a minute. Believe you need to buy the card with at least 500 minutes on it.

Thats the exact plan I have.....switched to them just a few weeks ago. Whatever you do....if you have SBC Ameritech...get the f*uck out. They are nothing but an overpriced load of b*ullshit.

Something I figure I share with you.

Silverleafcommunications.com (which is asociated with qwest com)

offers the best rates in town for bussiness lines.

rates are 3.2 cents per minute billed in 6 second intervals for

state to state calling and about 8 cents per minute (a little high)

for in state calling. Rates may vary but this is based on FL

DTB- The wife gets phone cards from the local thai grocers around here. Seems like different names all the time, such as, bangkok2003, Panda, AsiaCall, etc. I'd be interested if you know of something better.
P.S.- I don't know what the current rate is cause its like the price of rice in that doesn't matter what the cost is as it is considered a necessity by the wife.

Thanks for Tip on airline link. I will bookmark it. Nice rates on phone cards too. If I get any additional info of subject I will relay to you and you do the same if you would.
What part of Asia do you visit? I will be headed back to Nanning in fall if SARS thing is over by then. They currently have consulate in Gaungzhou closed but have application in for k-1 visa for little sweetie in Nanning. Will also head to island of Hainan. What a gorgeous place with almost exact climite as Hawaii.Had planned on looking at some real estate there but their laws confuse the hell out me and I have been unable to get same answer from any 2 people yet. You wouldn't happen to know the ropes there in that area would you?

On the course!
I make all my long distance calls from local businesses. I just ask if I can use the phone to make a local call.

DTB I don't currently have friends in China, (friend had teaching job in Hunan a few years ago), but you should also check out Thailand- IMHO. I've got some Ex-Pat friends who live over there & LOVE it. (Of course one friend was cleaned out by a pole dancer in Bangkok, but there will always be those stories.) Most are like a friend of mine who is retired military. He got screwed by his EX out of 50% of his military retirement and lost his house to her to boot. He then checked out various places overseas, & ends up that he loves Thailand. Although everyone speaks English in the Philippines, he said he felt like a wounded Water Buffalo surrounded by the Pack. Most American enclaves there have armed guards too.
In Thailand he got a 17th floor condo overlooking the Beach for $400/month. This includes maid service once/week, TDD telephone, security, swimming pool, squash court, weight room, room service, Satellite TV, etc. His girlfriend is half his age and treats him better than his wife ever did. He says he has never had a better time in his life. Been going on 4 years now. Of course I am prejudiced as my Brothers-In-Law 'show' me the town, especially Patpong Rd and also keep the Land Sharks away.
Get my E-Mail from Jack if you want more info. This is a good place to start: http://www.pattayamail.com

I changed jobs so haven't been back in 2 years, but will make the trek next year. Seems like everytime I make the same resolution, "Man, I don't wanna get a massage, drink any beer or 'come off' for at least 4 mos.- just let me recuperate! Man it's a romp...dance2

I know what ya mean Chanman. Was in the Pines last year and didn't care for it.Wanted to go to Mindenao Island but they banned travel there for americans obvious reasons so was stuck in Manilla for 4 days. Nothing to brag about. Will have to check out Thailand later. Ditto on prices in China, only cheaper. They have 3bedroom two bath new condos on Hainan Island for bout $40,000
however may be better to rent if one could lock in rates long term. You never want to rent a car,not only because impossible to negotiate traffic but you can get cab driver to personal driver all day for $8. Took "my friend" and 11 of her friends to eat at best seafood place in Nanning and she kept saying, don't do too expensive, Total bill for 13 people was bout $30:)
---and your brother is so correct on asian women, very loyal and impecable character. Will move there within 10 years myself maybe sooner if Hilliary gets elected.:D People there love americans, taxes not bad,no worries bout litigation, theft, ect. an almost risk free environment. I think it will be great area for investment as I think economy here is on downward spiral with no return.Between corporate theft and class action payouts the days of turning a profit are a thing of the past.I have a link to email addy in website in profile, shoot me a line sometime.
