I would rate this comment up there with the most bizarro world rants I have read on this message board. Yes, I get it, you lost against the Cards last series and lost with them this series. Really, either of those series could have gone either way, that's playoff baseball. Things turn on a few pitches, like the non-sinker Maness threw to Gomes. Tough to predict, sorry you lost.
Not sure how exactly they are boring. Perhaps they don't hit balls off the wall and throw a party for themselves at home like the Puig. Perhaps they don't grow long facial hair and pull it after a big hit. Maybe they don't yell and scream. Perhaps their light show before the game wasn't good enough? I mean, they certainly aren't as exciting as Peyton Manning. Or Andrew Wiggins. Or anyone else you love on one of your favorite teams. I'm not saying you shouldn't like those teams as to each their own, but your rant on the cards almost defies logic.
I think it would be hard to consider the Cardinals anything but one of the model franchises in all of sports. They have been in 4 WS since 2004, winning 2. They have been to the playoffs 10 times since 2000. Of course, their history before that is remarkable, if you would be willing to take a look at it. And better yet, they have done this without spending insane amounts of money. They have cultivated an amazing farm system and have been able to develop their own players AND players others have casted off (See John Axford). That's what sports are all about right, building talent and improving. Not buying a bunch of it and shoving it out there.
How many other organizations could lose two front end starters AND their closer at the beginning of the year and still go to the World Series? So, just look at what they have on their roster now (they played NINETEEN rookies) and what they have in the farm system (it's almost unbelievable) and you will quickly realize why they were #1 in ESPN's most recent future rankings. They will likely be back. Several times.
So, while the injury to Craig hurt this year and not being able to bring up Taveras (who should be more "exciting" for you) because of injury also was a blow, they made it to the World Series. They did this without the rah rah look at me nonsense that has percolated most of sports today. They lost at the end, and there was no whining or finger pointing.
I'm no big time homer. I'm a serious gambler. I didn't grow up in St. Louis either, but I live here now. When I first came here, I wasn't a Cards fan. Because of how seriously I take the gambling side of things, I have very few true allegiances left in sports. But as someone who has followed this organization closely, I have come to admire the way they do things. It's impressive and effective, and its hard to say they don't do it the right way.
