We only have a few little rules around here and I guess I've slacked off lately with enforcement and will try to get things back under control.

one solution that i am considering is:

i might put a password on this forum and unless you are invited, you won't even be able to read the posts.

Here are the rules and they will be strictly enforced until things get back to normal. We seem to go through one of these phases every 3 months or so. Now is the time to end this one. if you don't like it, get the hell out of here. if it gets back to just me and IE posting, along with a few others, then that's what it will be.

no bashing and fighting

if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it. didn't they teach us this when we were kids? think before you post. if you don't think your would say something to their face, don't say it on the forum. that's simple enough. it's just like the guy that gives you the finger when he's driving away. no balls. posting something behind the keyboard is being the same kind of coward. grow up!

no advertising and no posting of email addresses. also,i am going to quit being an email forwarding service, so don't ask me to send you someone's email address. i won't even respond to your request. if you need to ask them a questiom, ask them on the forum. that's what the forum is for.

it took me 3 years to build this site to what it is (traffic). i didn't spam my site on other forums. i did it through advertising and link exchange. i didn't spend all that money and all that time building up the traffic so that people can use me to promote their site, or service, or whatever. build you own site the right way. don't spam yourself on my forum. if you want to exchange links, i have a 'links' page for that. go there and read how you can get on that page. you're NOT promoting yourself on the forum, period! same goes with email addresses. there are too many out there with an agenda and this will not be your free ride to scam people.

don't post 'off topic'.

baseball info goes in the baseball forum and hoops goes in the basketball forum and football goes in the football forum. duh! all other topics go in the general forum. why? because we get so many topics and posts, we start losing good info to the 2nd and 3rd pages. stick to the subject and that won't happen.

if you NEED to see a how a forum SHOULD run, take a look in the golf forum. they mean business in there and, guess what? they make MONEY in there. let's try it in the other forums as well. it works!

making this forum an 'invitation only' forum, where you need a password to view posts, might be the answer.

thanks!!

since you mentioned it, i will suggest that you "earn" your right to post after so many days, months, hits, or combinations of those, especially for the handicapping boards.

this will give people a chance to get used to the format, informal "rules" for follow ups, etc., thus gaining the experience necessary to participate in an orderly fashion.

this will certainly weed out kids who have no business being here, as well as the "hit and run" types, in today and out tomorrow.

Well said Madjack.
Most of us come in here to get information to help us beat the man, and post opinions about upcoming games along with general sports talk. I love it in here.Probably 10 hits a day. 99%of the posts are excellent. Too bad that other 1% can cause so many problems. This is an excellent site and I thank you for keeping it that way.

If feel this is one of the few times that I must say something and to give credit where credit is due.
Jack, thnx to you and for everyone else who have made this site what it is.

It's really too bad that there are a relative few that are ruining it for all of us. I have been on this site since dec 2000 (in the hockey forum) and I haven't seen too many problems in the different sports forum until now. I woke up this morning and saw there were about 5 or 6 threads that were locked. If you have to do that to keep the integrity of this forum as it is, then do it.

I'd just like to say as well that again, this is the best capping site that I have come across with people that are willing to share their knowledge and to help others either supplement their income, or are drawn by the "underground" feel of sports gambling or for those like myself, who are in it as a hobby and a challenge ( and why NOT make money on the side..?)

Let's keep this forum as it has always been:
informative without the eediots.

First of all Jack, Happy Father's Day!

Secondly, I'm not a computer whiz, but I was wondering if there is a way to track the number of times one visits this site. Or if not, is there the possibility of somebody "signing in" for a number of days (15-20), where that's all they do is kind of pay their dues. It does seem that the people we have historically had difficulties with have been from a younger demographic and with the "waiting period", it may take a lot of wind out of their sails. It seems that only the more serious ones would continue "sign in" on the continuous basis therefore eliminating a lot of the riff raff that causes so many problems. I know you have seen many of my posts that try to inform these rookies of the protocal around here. Unfortunately, 99% of the time they get their feathers ruffled and the thread gains a quick 30 posts of bashing and name calling and no other redeaming value. I too gain a lot of great information from the fine veterans on this site and provide my own insight when I actually have any worthwhile. ......My basic point is that it is rather obvious to the majority ( I would hope), that we need to maintain this sites integrity, and if that means putting restrictions on the new-comers, then so be it. That's the way it works in the real world. It doesn't matter how many valedictorians from Harvard Law School have entered the workforce, none of them have entered as a partner.
Thanks for your patience and concern, Jack. You've got a great family here and there's no reason why it can't grow. Let's just make sure they get a blood test before they start screwing around.

Jack,

I really respect what you are doing, but I would suggest that if two people want to contact each other in person some method be made available to do that.

Houston Gambler and I discovered we live near each other and wanted to get together for a hamburger. I know several of the folks have gotten to know Eric in Vegas. HG and I are probably the only two on this form who live within 50 miles of each other and he asked me to contact him. That was why I asked you to forward my email address to him.

Again, I think you have done a wonderful job in building a terrific online community of like minded people. I just suggest that it not be so restrictive that we can't build friendships.

Thanks,

David

On the course!
This vacation is causing me to miss quite a bit!

I only have limited time to post, so I don't get to read all of the daily threads. I will catch up next week when I return home.

Don't let the summer heat get to you all!

Happy Father's Day!

Jack's right, this site is too GOOD, and valuable to us who use it each day. Let's not spoil it ourselves with our selfish egso, or allow others, who may or may not have EARNED the right to be here, by putting in the time of effort to do so either. I know I've been guilty of some of the same childish stuff, so I'm no better than most. When you're getting your s**t handed to you by DA MAN, and some one bashes you, it's hard, but just take a deep breath, swallow what little pride you have left (after a losing day!) and ignore. AND, maybe forward it to JACK or IE, if that's what he wants.

In honor of Father's Day, let's us all sit down with our kids, plop in our copy of "BAMBI" and listen to what THUMPER has to say... "My daddy always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all..."

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY ALL!!

Randercity.........I hear what you are saying, and in a perfect world that would work wonderfully. Unfortunately it's not, and that theory ( letting things just roll off one's back ), has been employed, or should I say, not employed for as long as I have been here. I believe that is why Jack is considering stronger measures as to insure the health of this site.

There's always sadly going to be a few clowns around to spoil things for others, Jack.
Whatever you need to do to preserve the site's integrity will be fine with us "regulars".
Keep up the great work
