I am bored and watching "High Stakes Poker."

Two questions:

1. What is this "run it twice thing." I know they turn two sets of cards....but is it for free? If you know you are a big fave why are they doing that ....

2. Do these guys really have the kind of jack they are tossing around...?

1.Yes it's free, not sure what you mean, unless you are thinking the house would charge? They do it to avoid the one huge suckout crushing someone. Usually when the money goes in it is big hand vs big draw so they run it twice. Whoever wins the first run gets half, and whoever wins the 2nd gets half. I have seen them run a complete seperate 5 cards on the board. My experience with this is more in Omaha than Hold em.

2. Yes for the most part exceot Matusow.

I guess I see... someone who knows the math can say I just wonder if that is a good play when you are holding the probably big best hand....

they do it to reduce vairance that's all.

it's the same percentage each time they run it.
you are basically guaranteed not to lose all if you are a 70 + fave because its' harder to hit twice.

dan n. never does it, nor does greenstein. it just is a measure of how much variance you want to endure.

more often than not its people with a better hand wanting to run it twice to make sure they don't get sucked out on.

and yes every name pro on that show gets endorsement money like crazy and full tilts players get a minimum of 100k per month and more for some of the bigger players.

Interesting......actually while I was watching Daniel did it with "Little" Brunson.....

So while it is perhaps "their money" I guess these folks arent wondering if they get their next meal after a bad beat...

haven't seen tonights yet. only poker show i watch..not on yet, but he never used to do it before. he said last season he never does so who knows. they are friends so i guess maybe that had something to do with it or he was a big dog. like i said haven't seen or the hand.

and if these guys ever did go busto, one of them would loan the others money. its like a special fraternity. these guys trade 100's of k without paper like its water. must be nice

It was a rerun from last year. Rainbow flop with a Queen and garbage. Daniel had AQ and Brunson AK. Brunson went all in AFTER the flop. They then ran it twice and Brunson busted. Daniel then gave him 100k.

BDB,
Not doubting your statement at all, but where have you seen or heard that they are making that kind of coin in endorsements? There are like 12 of them on the pro staff which would mean they are paying well over a million a month just in endorsements? THAT is a lot of overhead but it does draw paople to the their site. Now if we could only put money up there as easily as in the past.

It's obviously 3rd hand knowledge, i don't have access to their contracts, but I've heard from at least 3 reliable people that Matusow makes over 100k a month from them. It makes sense some other big names make at least that.

Party used to rake at least 10 million in rake a month before overhead, so full tilt has to do at least 3 or so. guesstimate. their is little overhead with them besides their annoying tv ads. their customer support is non-existant. it's the absolute worst in the business. probably one guy answers all the emails at like 8 bucks an hour or something. their email turn around time is like a week if they decide to respond at all. and from every thread AND personal experience, getting money out of them for the last few months has been like pulling teeth. eventually you get it, but the run around is ridiculous and takes forever. again this is personal experience and not a generalization of all. i no longer use nor would recommend that place, but to each his own.

Thanks for taking the time to explain, you are right, there is not much overhead in a software system. I read somewhere about the ridiculous amount of money that Party was making for the ex 900 queen, Dipshit and some other guy, and those numbers were like from 04-05 before things boomed even higher. Old saying, it takes money to make money and I guess what they are paying out in endorsements comes back in the long run from rakes and tourney buy ins. GLTU
