Can't say that I have ever read or heard much intelligent discussion on this subject. I have been involved in a bunch (believe it or not) but was wondering if there is really any way to figure a good deal vs a bad one, etc??

I played a $110.00 buy in tonight, we got down to 3 players and the "dealing" began..

Payout was scheduled to be
1. $2,300
2. $1,200
3. $600

With blinds of 800-1,600 and a 200 ante, chip counts were..

Chip Leader 78,500
Donkey f uck 58,200
Agent 35,300

We tossed around the idea of freezing up 1,000 for 3rd but couldn't get a solid split figured out.

We then decided to take the payouts based on our chip percentages, or so we declared.

The "floor" came back with a payout of

Leader- $1,650
Donkey- $1,300
Agent- $1,100

They agreed and I jumped on it...seemed very generous given my stack!

So, has anyone come across any good reading on this subject on how to figure EV and the angles and such?

BDB??

Thanks!

Agent, it appears by my math that you got the best end of the "deal". IF you go by % of chip stacks, it should be somewhere around these payouts;

$1800 46%
$1480 34%
$820 20%

Soooo, I think you should have said thank you very much, its been fun and hope to c ya next time:sadwave: :142smilie

Congrats on the cash!

Right! Thats why I said we declared that but when the floor came back with that and they took it, I jumped on it. I was staring $600 right in the face so $1,100 sounded great! I never would have taken $820 :nono:

Congrats on cashing, you got by far and away the best end of the deal.

Curious as to why you would never take the $820 when $600 was almost certain where you would have finished.

There was $4,100 in the prize pool, but you were all guaranteed at least 600 for third so you each get that; which leaves 2,300 to be divided up by chip stacks.

Leader had 45.6% of chips and .456 x 2,300 = 1,048 + 600 =1,648

Donk had 33.8% of chips and .338 x 2,300 = 777 +600 = 1,377

You had 20.5% of chips and .205 x 2,300 = 471 + 600 = 1,071

So it does appear you got a bonus of a whopping $29 dollars but even better than that, it appears the floor took out $50 from your guys prize pool cause your 'deal' numbers don't match the original prize numbers. :142smilie

$600 was FAR from certain where I would finish. The one guy(donkey f uck) was just horrible, he won a large pot from me with Q8 vs AK when he rivered a Q, otherwise he was out. I had time to wait him out with my stack vs the blinds and antes. The chip leader was ultra tight, and had no clue how to play the big stack, so him bullying wasn't a concern. What I really wanted to do was freeze up $1,000 for 3rd and go at it, I felt pretty confident about my chances to take it down. But that deal just seemed too good to pass up.

With 2nd being only $1,200, not taking $1,100 would have been stupid. But taking $820 and having no shot at $2,300 is dumb. I was far from crippled.

What you described sounds like what happened. As far as the extra $50, I think maybe the 2nd place guy got $1,350?? :142smilie
