Ok, I tell you there is a poker tournament on THURSDAY at Midnight.

Do you assume this is Wednesday night, 1 minute after 11:59pm, or Thursday 1 minute after 11:59pm??? :shrug:

I think that it is kind of a gray area:

If I told my friend to come by my house on thursday at midnight I would mean... show up 1 minute after 11:59 pm thursday night

however,

NCAA football 2007 was due to come out on Tuesday at midnight , which contrary to the above theory meant 1 minute after 11:59pm on monday night :shrug:

guess it depends on how official it is

Well, I look at it like this:

The term is "midnight", correct? What does that imply? Middle of the night, correct?

Now, I think most reasonable folks would agree it gets 12:00am is more "the middle of the night", than the technical "start of the day".

Since it is "mid-night", what night is it the middle of?

That question is obvious! It is middle of the current night, and not the coming day.

So, the answer to your question is rather simple:


"You should have phrased it better!!!"


Start the next event at 11:59, and there will be no problems!!!

Agreed. What I would have actually heard was.... "poker tournament - THURSDAY - Midnight."

...so, I would probably show up Thursday night somewhere between 11:30 and 12:15 in the middle of the night...depending upon how much I had to drink in the previous few hours...hell, I might not show up at all. Who the fuk has a poker tourney at mid-night in the middle of the work week?!!? Are you bastids working the 2nd shift these days??!?! :com:

Mondays at 11 AM

Wednesdays at 6 PM

Thursdays at 12 AM
