Pray tell why civilians need be armed with military weapons? Maybe this had some merit 200 years ago, but not today

truth be told, but if not for the shooting of the rep from arizona, these gun threads probably wouldn`t be up here in general...

and i think the more relevant issue might be gun control vs crazy people control...cause this guy was insane...period..

we decided a good while back that as a progressive, humane society, that we weren`t going to lock folks in asylums quite as readily as we used to....and the obvious consequence is that some folks that need our protection(and in some cases quarantine from society) are gonna be allowed to roam around freely...... including this jared dude who had numerous run-ins with the law,had threatened numerous people and scared the living shit out of classmates and teachers alike...yet slid between the cracks of pima county mental health and law enforcement...

our open society that optimizes freedom (from straight jackets in some cases) sometimes unfortunately results in tragedy....also made it easier for terrorists to take a big chunk out of our asses........

that`s the price you pay for living in a free and open society....

doesn`t happen all that often...but it happens...

Well I've been in a lot of gunfights (9th Infantry Division Viet Nam) and when you are in a gunfight you just don't want to be outgunned......you don't know who you are going to have to defend against until it happens.....say you are driving home and happen to run a red light and kill the president of your local Hells Angels chapter....how many do you expect to come after you....30....50....100....who knows ? Nobody knows until it happens......when the shit hits the fan I want the fastest gun with the most bullets......suit yourself but you probably haven't been in very many gunfights......so please don't tell me what I might need........blame it on the government......I was drafted......BRING the WAR HOME

Weasie: Crazy people aren't going anywhere. Need to limit the amount of damage they can do.

Found a vid of Lumi at the range, squeezing a few off....

well,in this case it apparently became clearer by the day that the perpetrator of these cold-blooded murders was insane and dangerous...it was evident to many others....

i don`t want anybody taking my "reasonable" .38 away from me....i don`t want some bureaucrat making that decision for me...

and it scares me that we live in a society in which the government is beginning to dictate the types of foods we`re allowed to eat...whether we`re allowed to smoke or not...what kinds of cars we`re allowed to drive...what kinds of lightbulbs we use....what kinds of healthcare we`re allowed to have.....

you can`t blame people for being afraid to let the government camel get it`s nose under the tent regarding restricting and potentially taking away our right to bear arms(d.c. handgun ban)...cause the more they get,the more they want...

being fair minded,i wouldn`t mind seeing certain types of weapons off the streets...but unfortunately, some of these politicians won`t leave it at that....

What ?

The 2nd A wasn't written as a disposable Amendment based on the issues vs. The Kings Army or our own tyranical govt. Any other writings from the Bill of Rights from 200 years ago maybe we can disregard?

No one will convince me that civilians need to possess hard-core military weaponry. The only problem that I see with limiting certain weapons is the foot-in-the-door theory, meaning where will government restrictions end if we let them start. Presumably, this is why the NRA operates like they do.

I get both sides of it. Just feel that some things need to be taken off the street just like I feel airport screening needs to be tight and profiling should be utilized to keep planes from falling out of the sky at the hands of terrorists.
