Ok, I am completely clueless when it comes to horses but I bet on Hard Spun to win, place, or show. Do I not know what I won until they calculate it after the race is over? Bastard had the lead all the way until the very end. Grrrr....

They will post the prices shortly.

Ok. Thanks. It's been years since I've bet horses and I couldn't remember if that's how they do it. Did you happen to see what the odds were on him before the race? I know a few hours before race time he was 8-1.

I didn't see the final odds, BRIS will have the chart posted in about 20 mins or so.

I just caught the tote board as I walked back in the room, I think HS paid $9.80 to place, is that right?

I think it was $9.80 to win and $7.00 to place. I just checked my book and I don't think they calculated it right. I had $60 total, $20 to win, $20 to place and $20 to show. I ended up with a total winnings of $108. That can't be right if placing was actually an even 7?

You picked up $98 for the place and $70 for the show

Total won was $168
You bet $60

profit is $108

Oh crap, nevermind. It's 9.80 to place and 7 to show. :mj07: Told you I'm clueless! Still think my book is calculating that wrong though...

Above the Clouds....
He ran a very nice race just ran into a better horse today. The Preakness is a little shorter with tight turns may be one to watch.

So the winning $20 that I bet gets split in half between the place and show? As you can see I really have no business betting horses. :mj07: Just placed a bet for fun, wasn't expecting to actually win anything.

And thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Win place and show are really $2 wagers so for every $2 wager you had on Hard Spun to place you won $9.80. But you bet $20 so you divide 2 into 20 which you get 10. Multiply 10 times the place payoff which was $9.80 and you get $98. So basically you had the place wager 10 times.

Perfect. Got it now. Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I wish he would have won it but my bet was pretty small so it's not like they would have had to break open Fort Knox even if he did win. :142smilie

$20 pl collect $98
$20 Sh collect $70

Which is $168

-$20 win bet is total profit $148

My total bet was $60 though. $20 to win, $20 to place and $20 to show. So I think the total winnings of $108 is right, when you factor in the $60 that was bet.

You have to subtract the $20 for place and show also..

You give the cashier $60 and in return when you go collect they give you $168. Profit will be $108
