I thought in Canada private schools such as catholic had taxpayer help plus tuition. I know it's all tuition here in US. My kids went to catholic school way back. Today they would not. I will not pay taxes then pay 2000 a year tuition for a education no better then I get in public school. They are trying to make the private schools fit just so many incomes. Was not that way in the 70's.
By the way our private Lutheran High School is not much cheaper. Its 1600 a year.

hey all, thanks for the responses and well wishes......

Cris, yeah, I figured out myself the whole process of this lockout BEFORE it happened, ( did lots of PAST reading on the subject, gotta love thye internet) so things are pretty much going according to my calculations....but that's SHIT LIFE for you.

Kinda disheartening knowing that you're going into battle with the school board, and GOVT, KNOWING that you don't stand a fair chance of even coming close to winning.

The game is bigger than all of us teachers, PERIOD.

this is just another fawking stoopid game in life that we have no control over.

With all this wealth of info at our fingertipstips, we know how everyone but the "higher powers" that control the global society are getting shafted left, right and centre......yeah, they tell us to go out and vote if we wanna get rid of certain party leaders....and you know where that gets us...the lesser of two evils.....

all i want to do is get this crap over and done with and go back to work.

But mark my words, this has made me VERY bitter.

Get another profession? I don't think so.......

- i'm NOT the one that wanted to stop teaching

- i'm NOT the one that had to be forced to do extra curricular activities.....i did them cause i enjoyed it while other teachers sat on their asses and gloated about how they were sooooo close to retirement.....

- i'm NOT the one that ever complained about my salary ( yeah right, i got into teaching because of the salary.....who the fawk are you kidding???), i gave UP an $65,000 plus financial planning job with TD Canada Trust in 1999 after i graduated from teacher's college.

- i NEVER complained about my job, and once that bell rang at 3:25PM, i became me....i don't even TALK to my wife about work, even when it got downright annoying.

things'll be different when i get back, though.
no more freebies from me.

like i said, this will change ALOT of teachers in ontario, and that's the fault of the board....way to go......!!!

We didn't like the school board before, wait til we all go back to work....

so you got into teaching for the sole purpose of the $$$$$ then put your seatbelt on enjoy the ride cross your fingers whats the problem then????????? I don't know what kind of $$$$ teachers in canada make but if you had a $65,000 +job with room for advancment and you gave it up for teaching for the $$$$ then your right where you need to be my friend, sitting on the sidelines fighting for more $$$$

I'm glad MY kids aren't in your school;) and have you for a teacher:shrug:

hmm ..

i have sympathy only bcoz of Chris :D
Hope they come thru for ya bud.

my company just slapped us in the face. they decided not to give a personal contribution bonus to 70 people in Canada out of the 13000 odd employee's and the reason given was that after giving up money to all the people in all other countries and some people in canada they were OUT OF BUDGET. Boy that certainly raises the motivation of the employee's here. But if u wanna a job . . be here or look elsewhere is the clear strategy.

My company has revenues of around 680 millions US $ and a operating profit margin of around 46% since most of the employee's are in Asia.

Amazing .. need a union here too

Good luck guys

Out of budget. Sounds like the USA tax break everyone is, well everyone maybe is going to get. No problem. We dont have the money. We just go father in the hole. We will let our kids and grandkids worry about how to pay for it. That and keep stealing from our SS funds.

Unionism is a many faceted organization. To judge all unions and especially a person whom you have never met by an affiliation in philly is unfortunate... I cannot speak for the concrete unions nor for Canadian teachers union, only my own. I would have it no other way. Regardless of my feelings towards the international division as opposed to local affiliation, I will still believe in unions and the democratic ability to improve working conditions for all those involved. It seems to me your children could learn something from the teachers union. Such as steadfastness in the face of adversity, tolerance and patience, integrity, and I have news for ya TBone....every one is in everything for the money, except volunteers. Do you volunteer? Saying your glad your kid is not educated by a very qualified, degreed teacher in his own thread leads me to believe that you don't.

FDC-YOUR RIGHT ABOUT 1 THING TV I AM SORRY FOR MY LAST COMMENT;)

but..........................fdc you have your opinion and i have mine.

The original ? was WHAT IS A UNION GOOD FOR?????? I answered the way I feel:shrug:

Do I volenteer????? what kind of question is that??????do you mean teaching?????????

HELL NO-I hate kids other than my own. I stated more than once that teachers are special people I don't think that any mo dick or larry could go get a degree and then
become a successful teacher. I personally would kill the little buggers:D FOR REAL..............I do volenteer at many other things my kids are involved with if you must know that is affiliated with my kids schools TEAM MOM-football both highschool and grade school I am the mom who always ends up shaperoning (SP?) them dreadful grade school dances I help the teachers put together and orginize sacramental projects so YES I am involved I could go on but I won't bore you anymore...............

TBONEZ0295 You sound very single. But you also sound very dedicated to your kids.
This union question why/whynot. Is never easy to depate. Some folks went to work for good companies that took real good care of there folks. They wanted to share the proffits and success.
A union was never even thought of. Right down the street others worked hard as hell for this other companie that gave them little. They wanted to be more like there friends at company 1. But were told go work there we dont share here. Well they all could not work for #1. So we know the rest of the story. It is still true today. Someplaces will give only what the law said they must. That would be minimum wage. You want vacation. You want insurance. You want a pension. To bad. And we work holidays to. How to companies such as these get folks to work for them. In most case there desperate.
This teacher thing. I always felt pay teachers a good wage. I do want good people teaching my kids. But I also felt number of days worked for pay should be considered. Our Teachers in USA have at least 3 months off each year. With summer vacation and other hoildays. That time off should be considered part of a very nice benifit package. Benifits are part of pay. Benifits cost money to. Some time benifits are much more important then the pay.

i hope that comment wasn't for me, cause i stated i TOOK a PAY CUT to get into teaching.....?

I started out in the profession getting around $37,500.....

I volunteered in teaching BEFORE i was a financial planner....the financial planning job was to pay my way through my undergrad and teacher's college.

I didn't get into teaching because of the money....i got into it because i liked the good i was doing.

i hope that clears a few things up......?

TV- THIS IS THE PARAGRAPH THAT i guess i misunderstood;) I hope things are starting to go forward in a positive way.............. I am glad to hear that your teaching job is more to you than the salary. Todays youth is in our teachers hands AS WELL as the parents.............You really sound like a good guy and I'm glad that my understanding of why "most" people get into teaching wasn't destroyed.......I have friends that teach and ALL of them had a certain passion for it.........not to mention if you and your wife are starting a family, teaching jobs fit perfectly into that life because you'll be able to always be with your child. Holidays , snow days , and a very nice summer vacation:D PAID I HOPE FOR YOU.....................any way I hope things work out well for you:) keep us informed maybe the school board and union over there "WILL" pull threw. I have 64 8th grade graduation certificates to write out this weekend I do caligraphy so even though I don't have an 8th grader this year they asked me anyway:p The extras you talked about theres lots of them and this little project I took on this weekend will take probably take me at least 4-5 hours I WISH YOU LUCK:D tbonez
