Good luck with your job in the future, TV.
I went to a Catholic K-8 school. I have several friends that work there now. The Catholic school in my hometown pays about $8,000 less than the public schools, but there is always a waiting list to work there. The teachers take a job there because they want to teach children, and they also feel good working for in the parochial system. The money is almost an after-thought.
I don't know who stated that public schools are better educated, but that is the most assanine comment EVER made on this board. It makes BTJ look like Socrates. There is a slight chance that wherever that person lives, they have a great public education system, but I will put parochial schools against public schools anyday, anytime, for any amount.
I, for one, do not think teachers are underpaid. Making somewhere around $27-35,000 (Parochial is much less) for 8 months of work is not terrible. I do know teachers work their asses off, though. But they should know that before choosing that career.
TV--your education must be tougher in Canada than it is in the States to receive a teaching degree. It is probably one of the easiest majors here.
About Canadian Unions (first, I am definitely no expert), I have heard that the Canadian Unions are much stronger, but they do not protect the bad seeds like ours do. I think Unions are a good idea if they would let the companies justifiably (sp?) get rid of bad seeds. Maybe if the Unions could hire and fire employees, then be held completely responsible for individual's actions. I don't know the answer, but I do know that our employment situation is fawked up in this country. Scandals on both sides of the fence.
Once again--good luck, TV.
