Normally during the weekly leauge rounds a buddy and me play for a little something per stroke even though we can't always be in the same foursome, honesty is not a problem, or so I thought and we usually end up close to even each week anyway, but I was in the group behind him this week and he hit his tee shot on the first hole into the rough which was REALLY high this week and could not find it, now in our league if everyone agrees the ball was not close to out of bounds or a hazard and you can't find it because the grass is too high or it rolled into a hole, etc... you can drop one where everyone in the group agrees it was, which he did, I hit my shot near where his shot landed and I found his ball which was a Condor, a ball that is not legal to play with as it is too small or too heavier or something (I'm not sure) that makes it go farther. My question is should I be pissed or is this not a big deal, do those kind of balls really give you any sort of distance advantage? I don't think they are any more expensive than the ProV1's I play with and I don't think the ProV1 gives any noticable distance advantage, I like them because they stop quicker on the greens with the middle and longer irons.

Again, do those juiced up balls go any farther or should I just not care about this?

They do go farther, but the REAL advantge is in putting. A smaller ball has a much greater chance of going in the hole. If the two of you play close to equal, I would guess the ball he's using is worth at least a couple of shot's per round. He has a very big advantage over you my friend. Any ponies today?

Just my 2 cents, let him keep using them. The balls are probably just like concrete and they won't check up on the green anyway. So he hits it 10 more yards. He still needs the short game and I personally believe the 100 yard shots on in are the most important shots of the day.

I would let him know that you know though. Give him Hell he has to cheat to try and beat you. Hell, it's a compliment. :)

Hit 'em straight and keep your balls out of the rough!

The condor ball is smaller and heavier and i think it is a very high compression ball. To answer your question that ball in my opinion is at least 30 yards longer than any other ball i have hit. The ones i have i have found them on the course. They are fun but illegal. I would just ask your buddy what the hell are you using a illegal ball for and check his reaction. But i would not lose my friend over this, would simply bring it to his attention.

Hope this helps and GL

Thanks guys, I guess "pissed" is the wrong word, I really wouldn't be mad at him for it, just wondered if he was getting an advantage or not. I just won't get into a long drive contest with him and his juiced equipment.

MJB, I may be at Mountaineer tonight if the weather holds out, I can't win there on a sloppy track. Where have you been playing, or at all recently?
Good to see you posting for sure.

Very big advantage, I wouldnt gamble with someone using this ball. Way longer and easier to putt.

ANybody playing with condors is somebody I want to be betting against. Money is made on the green, not by driving it 15 yards longer. I would suggest buying him a dozen more. Those balls are smaller than a regulation ball and harder. They don't "bite" at all, and they put terribly.

That was kinda the thought behind my question, was he really gaining an advantage with those balls or not. In all honesty I can still drive it as far as he does, but would it affect his game to be hitting from 20 yards behind me every hole? I think on an average par-4 I am much more accurate on my second shot with an 8-iron in my hand than a 6-iron, thoughts?

I agree with your thought on an 8 as opposed to a six, but overall, I still think the Condor is a liability. Now, if he is driving with the condor then throwing down a balata or good soft cover ball for his second shot, that's a problem.

Hmmm, never thought of that, I'll have to keep an eye or two on him for that move.

I think he should have walked back to the Tee. I know you guys have an understanding but.........well I wouldn't bet unless you guys are in the same group.

I Am A Golf Fanatic I Love The Game I Play 4 Times A Week And I Am Very Competitive.i Shot A 75 This Year In The Championship Round Of The Club Championship.the Ball Doesnt Mean Sh-t Your Buddy Might Not Be Getting 20 Yards Its Just That The Condor Ball And Any 2 Piece Ball Goes Straighter.if John Daly Hit A Condor Ball Sure It Will Add Distance But The Average Weekend Guy It Means Sh-t.i Have To Laugh When I Play With A 15 Handicapp And He Is Hitting Pro V's And He Is Losing 20 Yards On Each Hole Plus The Spin Is Exagerating His Slice This Is The Real Joke In Golf.i Have Hit Every Type Of Ball Pro'vs,ben Hogan Hawks Wich Is A Good Ball, strata's You Name It I Have Played Them But You Cant Dispute This A High Spin Ball Hurts The Average Player Not Help Him.the Best Ball I Have Found Are The Slazenger Fusion Good Distance And Just Enough Spin So Your Shots Wont Fly 20 Feet Offline.i Have Picked Up 20 Yards This Season By Going To A 46 1/2 Inch Penley Driver This Is Where You Add Distance Get A Longer Shaft.

I got news for you 6-5, it does help. If you will play anybody using a Condor, lets get together and I will play you for 500 across. I know what you are saying about the short game, but high handicappers cant spin the ball anyway, and dont have great short games so what difference does a ball that wont spin make? If he wasnt playing this ball it would probably be a Top-Flite or Pinnacle so whats the difference? The difference is the Condor is 30 yards longer, straighter, and easier to putt. Also nobody plays Balata anymore FYI. This ball is unreal how much longer it is. Now maybe the average Joe cant take advantage of it, but it certainly isnt a liability.
IMO

agent, I think u are dead wrong. BTW, I haven't been able to play any golf since '01 after my second disk herniation, but I played lots before that, and I have personally hit a condor before (my father bought some), so I'm not just spouting an uninformed opinion. I did hit it a bit longer, but it wasn't anything to get excited about. This was when I was a 12 handicap which is not the best, but I was a decent player.

I didn't see in his post where pf said they were high handicappers, did you? My contention is that good players don't play with condors thus, that's somebody u want to bet against.

Why do u think a condor is easier to putt? I thought it was like putting a pebble.

Wish I was still in my golf playing shape, I would like to play you although I couldn't bet 500 across. Not that deep. I'll put up a stake on Dogs That Bark against you, however, and u can play with whatever u want. GL!
