Maverick,

never wrote that someone here told Gib that he had to count calories for the rest of his life.......that comment was in direct relfection to the fact that a lot of people who want to lose weight stress about about it. You need a good diet. Some days that diet might be shit, others good, but one bad day won't spoil your goal unless you let it. Clearly if you are active, you need more calories, less active- less calories. Probably could have worded it a little different, but was just trying to hit some main points.

PUHD......No offense taken. I know exactly what you are saying. I see a lot of people on diets then they screw up a couple of days and quit the whole thing, when the thing to do is as you say just dont stress it and start again.

two years ago weighed 190 +. switched from bud to coors light and red wine. eat less at night. usually chicken w/o skin, etc. you can season your food without using a lot of salt. use black/green peppercorns, oregano, basil, lemon, rosemary, etc. whatever you like. i now weigh a little over 170. but i still have a small gut. i have a lot of freinds that exercise, but i can only think of one or two that drink and don't have the spare tire. abs and beer don't mix for most people. a lot of time spent on the treadmill may work for you. gl.

nice men's health article- thanks

Gibber my old buddy...

First...
F**K the gut, dont sweat it. You can try for months to have washboard abs but you wont be able to keep them. Not if you like to enjoy the good things in life like I know you do! Most important... watch carbs after 7pm- they pour the pounds on you faster than ever. While I do agree in the importance of SOME cardio... Weight training will burn more calories and strengthen your heart (also a muscle) faster. Try and lay off the breads, I know those sweet breads are soooo damn good. have proteins instead of carbs( i.e. bacon over bagels anyday!!!) and if you prefer beer- go with light beer, amstel or becks light will get you there in a hurry! Trust me Gib!
GL my friend- lets slay the man again this year huh?

Enjoy the gut, women don't mind and you EARNED it :D You're gonna have one or not unless you work your ass off. I'm not!

AND, forget 'light beer' because you'll have to drink many more because the calories are in the 'alcohol'.

be what you are and have fun.

re:

juss cut out 75-90% of your Carb intake and go workout 3-4x a week and you will see significant difference in 2-3 weeks. (i lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and have gotta a lot stronger too) This means NO rice, pasta/noodles, or bread. But eat as much chicken and lean red meat. throw in some salad, fruits and veggies for some variety.

I'll tell you something so simple and so easy you won't believe as I did not when I was told. However one reason it might work for me is I only eat usually one time a day,at evening when I get home. I always gain bout 20 lbs in winter when not out golfing everyday and as years go on it has been harder to lose. So last year before trip I thought I'd I'd see if I could trim up a little bit andfriend of mine guaranteed this and it works. Lost 26 lbs in 45 days.(226 to 200)
It is so simple but here it is. Pick any 2 days you wish but they must be in succession. On those 2 days eat nothing but salads.
Any other day eat what ever you want.--and the days you eat salad put what ever you want on it(in moderation) I put ham-cheese and blu cheese dressing on mine and ate HUGE bowl till I was full. I don't know how it works but it does. Fridays was my splurge night and I use to order deluxe pizza and eat it all. After a coupleweeks I noticed I became full sooner. At the end I could only eat bout half a pizza and was full. Went from 36 pants to 34's and could where clothes I hadn't in long time.
Did gain it back when I went off but heading out again in Sept and went back on diet and have lost 8lbs in 2 weeks and expect to be back in 34's by Sept 1st.

if you work the back and also abs and 30-45 mins of cardio you should be fine cut down carbs. When you are doing strength training on each lift besides contracting at peak point contract abs also, all lifts you use abs at some point you just dont know it and by working lower back will help to strengthing abs, but must do ab work as much as it sucks it is the hardest muscle to work because it is so dense and takes time, need to hit all 3 points of the abs in your work out, also ab work should be done everyday just like calfs and forarms, but carbs need to be cut down simple carbs complex are fine beer is a wasted carb but you can still have them, just remember to always contract abs on all lifts and must i say must work lower back because it is just like working bi's and not working working the tri's.

you will be fine just takes time because of thickness of the muscle now the bad new is if you are thick skin and have some fat you need to try to take half off first if not you will be building muscle under fat and then it is hard to slim it down i am perfect with that, after ball and powerlifting with all the juice i went off the high protain and and flax seed oil that was my fat but when i quit it was all over used very little carbs under 25 grams and 0 sugar so no oj or things like that but that was extream diet but the point is once you have it need to trim some off or you will have a hard gut i am not fat but thick and rock hard but it would be very hard to take off would have to go down to about 220 then rebuild and i am done with that stuff just do lifetime fittness now and will go back to it after the knee, the more protain you add the more muscle you will build.

you will be fine does not sound like you are large around there so do what i said and it will work don't worry about wait after you drop what you think you need from target area because muscle weighs more then fat. but it is a must to work them 5 times a week it sucks but as i said very thick muscle and needs to be worked like that by adding hydroxy cut to work out and diet 3 times a day will work very good , start slow and work up to 6 pills a day check bp first as long as bottom number id under 90 you can take it, also water water and water the more you drink the more the body will get rid of traped fluid. hope this helps but make sure to hit all 3 points.

good luck

Eric

big topic right now for losing fat is interval training. run light pace for a minute then sprint for 30 seconds and repeat maybe 8 times only do this type every other day. strength training will do more for you than aerobic work having muscle burns more calories cardio does nothing for building muscle just helps create a calorie deficit. i would strength train every other day and do sprints on the opposite days of strength training.

cutting carbs is fine and a high protein diet has shown good results but if you can find me anyone that has stuck with the atkins type diet for more than 6 months i will be surprised. maybe go with that type for a couple of weeks just to get you jump started but you need a eating plan that you can stick with for life. unless your metabolism is screwed or you are not very active you should be able to eat between 2000-2700 calories a day you can easily stay full eating that many calories just choose the right foods. chocolate is one of my weaknesses so i eat detour bars they are put out by designer protein best bar i have ever tried and cures my craving for chocolate.

personally i think it is really tough to get a six pack while drinking a few times a week alcohol is no good for your body but i think it is what alcohol causes most people to do that is bad when i go out drinking it usually ends up eating crap at the end of the night then i sleep late and usually miss my workout because i feel like crap and dont feel like working out.

i have to say it is summer enjoy it seems like it dont last long but if you are living life there will always be a reason to screw up so either you want the stomach or not just have to decide how much you can still go out and have a good time without drinking.

far as foods i would eat skinless chicken breasts are my favorite i put salsa on top of it. eat a couple sirloin steaks a week--whey protein finding one that caters to your taste is the hard part of this one--eggs-cottage cheese--milk--green beans or broccoli--peanuts. stay the hell away from high fructose corn syrup this is what makes soda so bad for people if something has this corn syrup in the ingredients and has more than 10 grams of sugar stay away nothing but instant fat.

like fletch said definitely work your abs it is a muscle just like your arms dont work them and it is tough to get results i would do bicycles--reverse crunches--and side crunches do them slow and with correct form if you dont you are wasting time. good luck on your quest.
