Raffey for the Hall?

Gotta hand it to the cubs who traded him for mitch williams because they thought he was .300 hitter who couldn't hit for power. But the funny thing is they end up with Mark grace as thier first baseman. Grace was such the power hitter. This is why the cubs will always suck!

i agree that palmiero deserves to be in the hall, really underrated ballplayer. but hitting 500 homers doesn't automatically qualify a hitter to make the hall, because if it did then kingman would be in the hall.

i don't know why i thought that kingman hit 500 homers, guess i should have checked before posting my previous post. have all 500 homer players been elected to the hall ?
raffy is easy HOFer, IMO.
IIRC, I read a couple years back that he had more RBI in the 1990's than anyone in baseball (something like 1100 over a 10 year span
). One of the most consistent guys there is: .290, 30 dingers, 110 RBI year after year after year.

OK, Raffey is in.
The question now becomes in this "new age" of baseball with smaller parks, bigger players, DHs, expansion pitching, and a juicer ball will 500 still be an automatic ticket?
One has to say no.
As many baseball puristis hate to omit. The game has changed. Look at stolen bases this year. "Smallball" is a thing of the past. One just needs to look at the team that is stealing the most bases this year. The Florida Marlins are in last place and they just canned thier Mgr.
The idea is why risk stealing a base and moving a runner when your next 3 hitters can go yard and trot the runner in?
This "swing for the fences" memtality adds HR's to peoples resumes that will not belong in the hall.
The Hall should be reserved for those who excelled above those who excelled. They should be the crem de la crem. Personally I think only five people should be inducted each year. The Hall needs some centering. The Hall needs to stop looking into the past to find obscure Negro League guys who hit .215 and played in Birmingham to make itself feel better.
Circle the wagons, tighten the gates, keep the Hall for the best.

hit the nail right on the head..500 home runs...you are gonna have a hall of fame full of 1st basemen....living in baltimore,i never thought palmeiro was a great clutch player...and i`m not sure on this,but,has he ever won anything?.....the numbers are good......what has he done to really set himself apart from any number of 1st basemen?....
as blazer said,the bar`s gonna have to be raised...juiced ball,little parks,playing extremely watered down talent due to expansion.......steroids?(not in raffy`s case)....it will be almost impossible to compare past players with the current group....
