Ok,
Gas Stations.

When the hell did it become socially acceptable and standing practice to leave your car running while you pump gas?

Half the fvcking world will forward emails about the mythical dangers and life ending consequences of talking on your cell phone while you pump gas.. but these same knuckleheads will leave the car running while they pump gas??????

In the past 3 weeks, I can't even count the number of retards I've seen doing this. To make it worse, tonite some jack off left his car running, put the nozzle in the tank, and then went and took a sh!t inside the gas station for 20 minutes.

sounds like he was hoping to get his car stolen for insurance purposes.......LOL

maybe the attendant should have driven it around the corner of the station to hide it for him :D

Take a fukcing chance once in your life, Columbus did!

I never shut off my car to gas up. WTF for? Do you really think it is going to "explode"?

Has any of you ever seen a car on fire at the local gas station, because some guy was pumping gas with the engine running? The answer is no.

Ok, I read your rant and I'm still wondering what the problem is. Are you worried about auto theft or something? :mj03:

BTW, I leave my car running as long as I'm within 10ft of the vehicle, so I'm not too worried about somebody driving off in it. :thefinger

If you are worried about fire, then you should take better care of your car. You are more likely to start a fire with the static charge you build up getting in and out of the car than you are with leaving the engine running. :jerkit:

The only videos I have seen of gas station fires involve people discharging static electricity at the pump.

I sure hope that tomorrow's rant of the day is better than this. hmh

I always shut my car off for the simple reason of why the fvck would I waste 5-10 minutes of gas when my car is just sitting there. I'm there to get gas, not to piss it away for no good reason. So screw safety, but why waste the gas?

Did anyone ever tell you that you waste more gas starting a car than you do leaving it run for a few minutes? :)

"What's your MPG when you're idling? It's negative! You're actually burning gas... and going nowhere.

If you're sitting outside a tattoo parlor waiting for your grandmother, and you know it's going to take her a good 15 minutes to get that new Komodo dragon tattooed on her left butt cheek, turn off your engine. You're just burning money. Some people have heard a myth that it takes more gas to start a car than to run it. So they use that as an excuse to leave a car idling. It's complete B.S. If you're stationary for more than a couple of minutes, shut it off, and save gas.

This tip also applies to warming up the car. Unless it's below freezing, cars don't need to be warmed up at all. Driving them gently is the best warm up there is. If it's 25 degrees out, you might want to let it warm up for 30 seconds. If it's 10 degrees out, warm it up for a minute. If it's -10 degrees out, move somewhere warmer. "

WOW...I am amazed at the people who don't cut off thier car.

I always thought it was a saftey hazard and I have always cut my car off. Now that you mention it, I have never seen (or heard about) a car on fire.

Also, I thought gas tanks were pressurized and leaving the tank open would get air into the gas (or carborater, or something to that effect). I know that my tank has a seal that is created by my gas cap. I can tell by the slight hiss that cames when I open the tank. I am not a car guy but has anyone else heard of this?

Most fuel tanks now are 'non-vented', thus the 'hiss' when you remove the gas cap. Always give the cap an extra 1/2 turn when you replace it to get a good tight seal and avoid letting air seep in the tank, could trip a sensor and a trip back to the dealership for a re-program.

I always turn my vehicle off. Fueled up the other day driving away, woman pulls beside me waving for me to roll my window down, left the gas cap "OFF" as well..... :banghead:

ace, how the hell do you pump gas that it takes you 5-10 minutes? Even if it did, how much gas do you figure you are burning up just sitting there?

I didn't read your link (I tried to, but it froze up my computer), but I do know that starting your car is tough on the engine. I'll risk the .02 in gas I am losing while I pump the gas, and go ahead and let my car warm up in the morning. Also......I don't think most people are letting their engine "warm up" when they start their cars, but rather the interior. When you have your car parked outside, and it is 10 below, it gets a tad cool inside. I'll gladly let it warm up for 20 minutes before I head out.

Just what I was going to post, yyz. I'm not warming the car up for the engine's sake. My ass cheeks need a little love when I crawl in my buggy!

I read the link and that site has some funny ideas. :mj07: I really like their explanation of why driving over 55mph wastes fuel. :)

I work in New Jersey and the gas stations have to pump your gas. I never turn it off cuz I don't get out and its F-ing freezing this time of year.

All I do is say "$20 of regular, slugger." when he's done, i give him 20 big ones and say "Thanks, ace!" and roll out.

The reason they started telling people to turn the car off while fueling is cars USED to backfire a lot. The funny thing is, it was more common for a car to backfire when starting but for safety reason it was said better to shut the car off. I don't turn my car off any longer because I pay at the pump and like to keep my AC running in summer. Like mentioned earlier, all it takes is a spark, guess what happens when you crank a car, that's right the spark plugs spark. Todays cars don't backfire much but like I said, the majority of cars backfore during cranking.

someone please explain what's unsfae about leaving a car running while fueling.

The biggest threat to safty at a gas station are the idiots that smoke while working there, filling up or just hanging out .
