Realistically, what do you think you'd shoot at Oakmont?

i heard Mickelson give an interview a couple of years ago after one of the Opens and he said he played the Monday after the tournament with his best friend that was the Club Champ back at his home course and his buddy shot 102:scared

10.8 index for me, which translates to a 13 or 14 handicap over there, which = 106. I can double bogey every hole.

How would you know? I carry a 2 and I said IF I PLAYED WELL... that course is very hard but with that being said on my good days here in Austin/Houston I am shooting under par.

Some of the guys who failed to make the cut were guys who made it as local qualifiers. These are the guys who shot 67's and 68's most likely on the courses they played to get here, and beat a ton of other great players on the final course to make the final cut.

Another thing that is often overlooked: Every year, you hear an announcer say, "The thing that makes this tournament great is, anyone can win the Open!" Well, that's not true. You need to have a USGA handicap of less than 1.5, making it "open" to almost nobody.

That means even a golfer with an outstanding ability such as yours, would get their entry returned.


There were 34 rounds above 80 on Thursday and Friday this week.


So, not knowing you, but being fair......I would give you very little chance of breaking 85 on your first round out there if you played either of those days. But, you might not be too far off.

I drive the ball really straight but short. I would struggle on these greens. Not knowing the falls offs and false fronts etc. Im sure if we had to putt everything out id have at least 7 four putts

Would hate to imagine what I would shoot on this track. The rough would eat me alive. Can't imagine how many balls you would lose if you did'nt have spotters.:shrug: I'm guessing 130+. Would probably have to take a case of Budweiser to keep me from getting to pissed off. :drinky: :drinky:

The two years prior to back surgery when I was playing my best I still don't think I could break 100.

I've been on this course, though never played all 18 holes and on an ordinary day it's not your average local course.

I played the front 9 when it was just set up for the members three years ago and shot 47, played 10 and 11 and got rained out for the rest of the way and was double, double on those, so breaking 100 that day was gonna be a feat.

The way it sits now, I just think breaking 100 is not gonna happen for a guy like me who could usually shoots 78-80 on league days at my local course.

i'm a low 90's player, haven't played in 6+ months.

so, I would probably be around 120-130 with 2 dozen balls lost.

I would probably want to play it twice,

once sober for the 130 and

once with a case of coors light for the 110 :com: :com: :scared
