I've stayed atthe Hilton close to the boardwalk. Very neat set up on the boardwalk as we dont have that in the South.

Not a lot of help, but did enjoy. I would recommend trip advisor.

Enjoy your vacation!

It's not a place to go if you're not gay tolerant. Personally, I think it's a great little beach town. It has a lot to offer without all of the crowding and madness of Ocean City (MD).

FunMaps
Rehoboth Beach was founded in the 1870's as the site of a religious camp. Following the development of a railroad and boardwalk in the 1900's, Rehoboth Beach evolved into an active resort town. Today, it stands as a year-round gay resort, with more than 200 gay-owned restaurants, shops, lodgings and night spots.

Thought of as the Mid-Atlantic region's answer to Key West or Provincetown, Rehoboth boasts two gay beaches and a lively boardwalk full of arcades, eateries and bars. Many of the restaurants and attractions are surprisingly affordable. Rehoboth has a great mix of cheap, elegant and trendy. You can grab a hot dog, stop at a crab shack, ride bumper cars, or spend the day at a spa and sit down for a lavish dinner. If you're looking for a more active outing, you can head to one of the nearby parks for hiking trails, fishing, camping and kayaking. On nearby Route 1, you'll find a haven for outlet shopping (FYI, there's no sales tax in Delaware!).

I think it's more like a lot of gay and lesbian people, some with their families, who are at the beach for a good time. There are about 200 gay-owned businesses, several gay bars and the places that are considered "straight" are gay-friendly.

I only posted the disclaimer because I'd hate to see someone who's really conservative and uptight being uncomfortable with a same sex couple walking the boardwalk hand-in-hand or with their arms around one another. It might be particularly uncomfortable for them to try to explain it to their little ones as well.

I don't think it's so "in your face" as some other places as long as you don't go during Pride weekend in mid-September. If it's anything like DC's Pride Festival, it might get crazy!! LOL!

It is also more family friendly than Ocean City (MD), with fewer rowdy college kids and high schoolers out drinking their first beers if you know what I mean. If you and your wife are going with another couple, you should have a good time. If you're at all uncomfortable, stay away from Poodle Beach and click on the FunMaps link on my previous post. It has maps identifying the gay bars and attractions so you can avoid them, too.

It's not a bad drive to go down to Ocean City for a day and, if you're into birdwatching or nature, you can visit Assateague Island, the home of the wild ponies of Chincoteague. A warning if you go to Assateague, the Chincoteague round-up is held in the last week of July (mid-week). The crowds are heavy during Pony Penning week and the horseflies, mayflies and mosquitos are horrible anytime, so don't forget your insect repellent!

All kidding aside, y'all should have a great time! I wish I lived a bit closer because I miss the boardwalks and arcades of Maryland, Delaware and the Jersey Shore!

I love to know what a gay themed boardwalk would look like :mj07:

In all seriousness, I know Asbury Park has a high gay population now and the downtown has been cleaned up tremendously....Asbury was a scary place ten years ago. Some great places there now, but it's not like you'd know the difference. (and not that there's anything wrong with it :toast: ) I suspect Rebooth is the same.

2much...been to Rehobeth many times....its a little more laid back then an Ocean City,MD....but Reh is a great place....best place to eat is Nicola's pizza....they make Nicaboli's....its their own stromboli..you can order what ever you want in it.. meatball, cheese, peppers, tomato sauce,etc....they are amazing.. people come in and order them and put them in coolers to take home when their vacation is over....the beaches are OK but not has good as some of the Jersey beaches...there is a huge gay population..their is one beach where they all hang out...who cares..my kids would walk up and down the beaches just to 200-300 guys are sun tanning... a lot of vacationers that go to Rehobeth are from the DC area....our family went for about 10 years..but we love Ocean City,NJ...better boardwalk, better for kids with 3 amusement parks, better beaches and when you lay on the beach and look north...you are 10 miles from Atlantic City..you can see the hotels....have a house rented next week for a week....my best friend and his family and mine do all the family stuff...beach,boardwalk,rides,babysit,take the wives out,etc..then around 11.00 pm we are off to AC...get back at around 3.00am..and start all over...

OC,NJ is dry....but just over the causeway about 1 mile away is Somers Point....as you enter the OC everyone stops at the Point and loads up.The big advantage to OC,NJ over OC,Md you are 10 minutes from from AC...leaving Friday for my OC for a week...the one 10 minutes from a blackjack table. good luck

decided on ocean city Maryland? any suggestions?
Good choice. First day or night, park all the way at the beginning of the boardwalk, get out, and just start walking. So much to do and see and eat, you will not be disappointed.

OC also has some of the best seafood restaurants around, anywhere. They are easy to find so find one and enjoy. Make sure you try some Maryland specialities (steamed crabs, steamed shrimp, crabcakes, softcrabs, etc). I would recommend some restaurants but I haven't been there since about 1995 and don't really know what's there now.

Boardwalk fries are a must and get a larger bucket so you have plenty to share with the seagulls :0074 Use plenty of vinegar as well.

Have fun.
