Akron-area night club owner indicted on 50 tax evasion charges

An Akron-area nightclub owner has been indicted in federal court on 50 counts of tax evasion, U.S. attorneys said Wednesday.

Antonio ?Jeff? Lorenzo, 51, is also accused in U.S. District Court on one count of conspiracy. His companies? bookkeeper, Kristen Smyers, 40, of Canal Fulton, is also facing a conspiracy charge, according to federal prosecutors.

The charges stem from the unreported income of about $746,000 and non payment of taxes of about $205,000, prosecutors said.

Lorenzo, who lives in Bath Township, is accused of paying some employees in cash and not taxing their wages between 2006 and 2010.

His companies have included Lorenzo Entertainment, the Posh and Lux nightclubs in Akron, and the Platinum Horse and Mars Men?s Club.
