Pretty sure this is a LOCK OUT not a STRIKE which probably means the officials were willing to work without a contract. I hope the commish ends up with egg in his face just like he did with suspending players from New Orleans. The officials are no more greedy than the commish and owners are power hungry.

those doing the work now...
are horrible..
those of us who see all 16 games[a total of 32 error plaqued contests over 2 weeks] either in their entirety or fast forward have seen the countless blunders by these un-trained and un-qualified workers.
it's that simple..
get to the table..iron out a middle ground..
and then those trained to do the job can do their job..
the mega mega rich good old boys club can afford to make certain concessions to put these men back to work who are trained and qualified.
and these owners will not miss a penny of it and the bottom line.. it shouldn't cost the fans a red cent.

and i agree the millionare owners wouldnt miss a penny if they paid the old people their money...
personally, i think its pathetic when we have millionares fighting with other millionares, when this country is a mess...
but, you call the old refs "the trained professionals", these new guys will get there. the old refs didnt step onto the field getting things perfect... I have watched everygame pretty much.....nfl ticket...
it really isnt changing the outcome of games having these guys in there...
I bet you i could pick 10 games from this year, and 10 games from the past 2 years, and show them to an audience who is unfamiliar with when the games were played, and they wouldnt be able to tell the difference in regards to which officiating crew is on the field......
UNLESS you are going into the game looking for how the new refs are different from the old, it isnt a whole lot different....
the atlanta game was a mess as far as handling the players conduct, and some calls...but the rest of games have been fine...
mistakes are made, coaches challenge, and the correct decision is called....nothing different from the past...
like i said....the nfl and espn have reported that these "replacement refs" have made more calls correctly and have had less plays reversed per game, meaning they are getting more calls correct....the problem is that they dont look as fluent doing it...they dont know all the in-and-outs of it....that is all stuff they will learn over the next 3-5 weeks.....thats enough for me right there...the nfl is saying these guys are more suffecient....give em a couple weeks, they will become more comfortable with the players, being on camera, and making calls,
i promise you, by the end of the year, noone will know the differnce...
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US IN THE MEDIA/FANBASE/PLAYERS UNION/OWNERS ......we were all biased coming into the year....these guys never had a chance...

All of those things happend millions of times the past 20 years....constant mistakes by officials every year....
do we not remember the ed hoculi mess in denver when he literally changed the outcome of a game 100% all by himself....
he even camee on national tv and admitted he absolutley changed the games outcome...
it happend way before this, its going to happen if they come back....

There are probably not too many jobs in the world, union or non union,where given time someone couldn't do the job as well or not better. Many are even skilled like refereeing. This has very little to do with the situation in my opinion. You either are on the OWNERS side or the "workers" side. Those replacing the referees are SCABS. They are stealing JOBS just like if someone crossed a pickett line and took off in a UPS truck or taught a class in a school system. I know many on here will agree a young anxious teacher would most likely teach your kid better than a 50 year old who the system and time has beaten down. Just my opinion. :0008

i`m sure that someone will say that the refs were"locked out"......that`s true...the nfl has the right to "lock out",just as the refs have the right to strike....
but the nfl had to protect their product..negotiations weren`t progressing.....even if the refs weren`t striking as the season grew closer,there was nothing(as far as i know) stopping the refs from striking on a moment`s notice....leaving the nfl and every other person with a financial stake in the season with their dicks hanging out......

In another few weeks, the replacement refs will be just as good as the regulars ever were. In fact, the regular refs were just as likely to make a game-changing mistake as the replacements. The complainers should just watch the game instead of looking for little mistakes that they can cry about. Making player safety an issue is a complete joke.
I guess I agree with Heleanth.. The Game Monday night was a joke, they lacked control, but if the old ref's demands seem a little absurd and it's better the NFL nip it in the bud now. I have always thought that the NFL has some of the worst officiating of all the sports. College football refs seem to get it right most of the time with quick replay, I know the game isn't as fast but Pass Interference in the NFL has always been a joke.
I wish the NFL would go to full time refs and have off season schooling and review. Then I think the Refs would be worth their demands.

No different than any other strike/lock out in the "real" world. It would have been settled quicker. Public opinion would have sided one way or another and both sides would have been eager to settle and continue to make MONEY. All sports have survived strike and lockouts in the past.
I'm not a "pound on the table" union guy, but I feel siding with billionaire owners everytime there is a labor issue is wrong. On the other side I find irony in the fact many of these "locked out" referees are probably anti -union in there regular jobs (CEO's, Managers, Corporate lawyers, school administrators, etc)so it may be humbling for them to see the other side. In the end, most of these labor issues are about POWER.
we know where public opinion is...it`s where the media wants it to be...
you keep citing "bilionaire owners" ....still not one mention of any of the others that would suffer if a strike had actually occurred?..i`m talking about vendors,sponsors,anyone involved with the t.v. and radio broadcasting..parking...memoribilia...ad infinitum..... .why is that?....i`ll take these innocents` side over the refs every day......

Can you name me one lockout/strike in the history of labor where innocent people weren't affected? It's part of the strategy of work stoppage to bring others into the fray.
and theres the rub for me...unfortunately for the refs,they haven`t been able to coerce the nflpa into joining them....i guess they`re realizing that they`re not quite as important as they figured....
but i`m sure it`ll get settled...i`m just glad that the little guy didn`t have to take it on the chin this time around...

Yup....have a couple longer posts above where I say the same thing....think there is no big difference....even the players say these new guys let them "play" more....
And like I said...nfl has reported more coorrect calls and less overturns with the new guys....after 3-5 weeks it will be better then before and the old refs will be begging to come back....the nfl knows this...
The nfl knows eventually noone will notice a difference in refs....and that the nfl will continue to be succesful....they don't need to cater to anyone....they r the fuckin nfl....

In this case tho, the striking refs, knew that their work stoppage would directly hurt the well being of thousands of people around the league....tv, owners, coaches, players, fans, etc...so when they strike over millions of dollars because they want more, knowing that it will directly hurt other people if the product was to stumble without them, then I have no problem with someone stepping in and replacing them....not at all do I consider them scabs....these replacement refs saved the wellbeing and lives of thousands of people who's lives woulda been a mess if the league had to stop over the originals refs...

Addict i rspect that opinion, but my point is the same can be said in any industry with a work stoppage. I don't care if a person has anti -union beliefs, at times mine are. The situation with the Chicago Teachers union could have resorted to an economic catastrophe for the already broke city, but if other teachers were brought in, I'd still call them SCABS, and I'm one who most likely would be against the teachers striking if I cared to study all the details. :0008
