Spy makes a good point. In 2004, we have a war that's starting to head south, a scandal ridden administration under attack ie: Wilson, DeLay, Libbey, etc, economy heading down, yadda yadda yadda. Then what becomes the central theme in the press..................
gay marriage, swift boats, morality and God
Fast forward 2008, economy in the dumper, occupation in Iraq continuing with over 4k dead, no jobs, no houses, no gas, no affordable prescriptions, no retirement, no pension plans, no affordable airline tickets, no health insurance, no environment, no mom and pop stores, no lawsuits, no Dr. Freeze, no 4 hour hard-on, and what the f does the press focus on................................
the pastor from hell.
No more importantly, I get sucked right into it also. I end up posting as a new topic "Rev. Wright on PBS tonight." I'm the idiot. It's amazing that when you try to defend what you perceive as an attack you just end up giving it more attention.
Spy and Stevie you are right that the media does direct our attention to the topic du jour. But we allow them to do it. Why isn't Hegge a story? His condemnation of the Catholics (I think 1 billion strong worldwide) should have garnered more attention than it has.
Ten, I'm saying that the Republicans are much better at uniting for a common cause (defeating the democrats) than the Democrats are (defeating the republicans). They can put aside their differences to defeat what they perceive as the greater evil.
