Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Talk about history, opened in 1955, one of only a handful of casinos at the time....the stories it could tell.

I will bet that the Rat Pack guys are spinning in their graves...

They are going to expand the convention area, a very serious part of Vegas's lifeblood.

What they ought to do is keep the amazing outside marquee and building facade as a historical marker, and rename that portion of the future convention center expansion as the "Riviera Hall".

Ground is soon breaking for an Ikea next year....

Went to Ping Pang Pong for lunch today (at Gold Coast)...if you are a serious fan of Dim Sum lunch, this is it.

Some fancy epicurean magazine anointed it as the finest Dim Sum in
North America.....I can say without hesitation, it is a very unique experience and VERY reasonable....

A huge mound of Walnut Prawns served with an Asian Mayonaise based cream sauce will set you back all of $14.95....

Put it on your Vegas experience list, especially with your wife, (lots of husband bonus points).

Sorry Kick, let me clarify....Convention center is expanding to incorporate the Riviera.
The Ikea is going to be Southwest of the strip near Summerlin....

Summerlin is the more upscale area of Vegas....they get all the nice new goodies, the rest of us maintain our meager existence....:0002

Ok got it.

Hey, I live in Summerlin.....

I think you made a wonderful choice for your family...

Walking my Lab outside the compound this morning, 2 blocks away I was tripping over empty open cat food cans the hispanic neighbors leave out on the sidewalks to feed whatever wanders around at night.

About Summerlin...

In 2002, Money magazine ranked Las Vegas as one of America?s top ten cities to live, citing Summerlin as the valley?s ?chief community.? Today, 12 years later, Summerlin has once again received a shout out from Money in its annual Best Places to Live in America issue. Las Vegas is included on its 2014 list of big cities offering value, and Summerlin is both cited and pictured for its 150 miles of trails and vast array of lifestyle amenities including tennis courts, golf courses, playgrounds and adjacency to outdoor activities at nearby Red Rock Canyon.

The publication additionally quoted UNLV economics professor Stephen Brown on a Summerlin bonus: ?It?s about five degrees cooler on the west side,? he said.

Money cited population, median home price, average property tax, median family income and projected five-year job growth to create its list of big cities with value. In addition to Las Vegas, others included Boston; Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Portland, Ore.

In 2002, Money wrote that Summerlin?s ?drawing card was its careful New Urbanist layering of residential, commercial and civic features. The result: a pleasant neighborhood that keeps property values up.?

According to Danielle Bisterfeldt, director of marketing for Summerlin, that statement rings even truer today with the continued evolution and success of the community. ?Downtown Summerlin, the community?s new 400-acre urban center, stands as the ultimate model of New Urbanism, bringing significant fashion/dining/entertainment amenities and live/work opportunities to the community in a walkable, thoughtful and integrated way,? she said. ?And thanks to the value of master planning, Summerlin has continued to maintain its appeal and value ? even through the Great Recession.?

This is the latest recognition for this award-winning community that has received national attention from media, professional organizations and industry nonprofits for more than a decade.

In 2002, Summerlin was named Community of the Year by Urban Land Institute, which cited it as a model of real estate success on a global scale. In 2007, National Geographic Adventure named Summerlin the #1 best place to live and play for its proximity to Red Rock Canyon and its focus on active, healthy, outdoor living. And in 2008, Summerlin received the inaugural American Trails Developer award from American Trails, a national nonprofit dedicated to trail interests. The award was especially significant in that it represented the first time the award had been given to a private developer.

And finally, Summerlin was featured as a model US community at the National Building Museum in 2012. The multi-media exhibit lauded the community for its standard setting design that helped to redefine Las Vegas as a great place to live.

Photo Caption: First recognized in 2002 by Money magazine for its ?new urbanist? design, Summerlin, with nearly 6,000 acres still yet to be developed, is once again named among the Best Places to Live in America.

About Summerlin:
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and has ranked in the country?s top 10 bestselling master-planned communities for nearly two decades. Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with approximately 6,000 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan. The community is currently home to more than 100,000 residents who enjoy an unparalleled list of amenities. These include more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of trails, 22 public and private schools, 14 houses of worship, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks and dozens of actively selling floor plans. Homes are available in a variety of styles ? from single-family homes to townhomes and condominiums? priced from the $300,000s to more than $1 million. Custom homesites in The Ridges are priced from the $400,000s. Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $900s. Visit www.summerlin.com for more information.

Riviera was by far my favorite of the old school casinos, very cool place. I liked it better than Sahara which isn't around anymore. Also, like it better than any of the other old ones. This past week I found myself more drawn to the downtown area and I had MUCH better luck gambling there. Can't believe Golden Gate gets $4 for their shrimp cocktails now, I remember when they were just a dollar. A few new casino's were downtown as well, I really liked the D (I think that was the name) but it was pretty packed. Loved all of the plasmas everywhere. You're right about Ping Pang Pong, love that place and should have went there. Spent way too much on food because I was with family, Eiffel Tower Restaurant, Mon Ami Gabi, and some Italian place in Paris that was the priciest of them all and ended up giving me a stomach ache. Was still a blast though....
