I thought all along, the minute they fired Doherty, they mightve (this is only my JFK theory) the chapel hill hiearchy, phoned Roy to feel him out ... anyhow, I wanted to bet this and didnt see it till now, and at carib as I tried to bet it, the odds shifted from -150 to -165 ... I put a substantial amount on him going back to NC, losing Hinrich and Collison, not getting along with KS AD, being close to Dean and loving NC and the link that all tar heels speak of, i think leads to a solid bet ...

on KS 78-71 and under tonight

PtG.........I am be totally wrong about this but I could see Roy staying at Kansas.......With the changing landscape in college hoops I dont think the UNC job has all the appeal as it once did. He could stay at KU for the next 10 seasons and be king of the whole state. Right now he coaches the premier team in the premier conference in the nation. Everyone thinks its a slam dunk he is going to leave, so they may be right but he has a pretty decent team coming back........so we will see..........

He is an idiot if he leaves.

He can go to UNC and be under the microscope with tons of pressure...

or...he can stay at Kansas and become a legend.

You cannot become a true legend jumping around like this, especially this late in your career. The real legends stayed at one place forever, or close to it. I think it would be a huge mistake (from a historical perspective) to leave Kansas.

In my opinion, UNC and Kansas are equal in prestige. To me, this is a no brainer.

Bombs..........exactly my thoughts. Plus he is always under the Dean Smith legacy. Another fact is that ever since Coach K put Duke on the map in the mid 80's.........UNC hasnt been as good.

all good pts, fellas

all good pts, fellas

I admire loyalty above all (the hopping around in sports is sickening in HS and college), and Roy is classy as it gets, but if he is truly having troubles with AD and the Carolina blue courses his veins, this might push and pull like the Moon's tide ... no lock, only -150, just feel pretty good about it ... not as good as Getting Chicago at -200 to be nominated for an Oscar ;)

ps one other pt. i keep forgetting, why hasnt NC talking about candidtates yet, b/c the final four isnt over, im gathering ... is it a rule, im not even sure ... if not, then maybe its obvious

pt1guard:

Word is that AD Dick Baddour might be retiring this summer. He basically made a huge salary jump when he became AD and he had to work 3 years at this level to maintain this much higher salary for his pension. This would be a huge move, as he is an idiot and Larry Brown among others said he would never come if Baddour was still AD.

Without a doubt the job is Roy's for the taking. I'm not sure if he'll take it or not, it's a tough call. I just think that he still bleeds Carolina Blue and would love to come back home. If he passes on it, Larry Brown is next in line. I have also heard a lot of inside talk about Tubby Smith should Larry Brown decline due to Baddour. Another problem with Brown is his olympic commitment for 2 summers...not good for recruiting. The unanimous vote for assistant coach is Phil Ford. It is a Tar Heel fan's dream to see Roy WIlliams and Phil Ford behind the bench next year.

One thing that stands out to me. Last time Williams was offered the job, he straight out said "not interested." This time it would have saved him a lot of trouble to do so but he didn't. The offer will come within the next week and I'm sure we will want an immediate answer.

Yeah you are right freeze but before that weekend he stressed he wasn't interested.

According to Coach Smith's book, when Roy left Chapel Hill after that weekend Smith was almost positive Williams would take it. He did him a courtesy by allowing him to go back to home to Kansas without a signed contract. Dean regrets not having him sign that contract in Chapel Hill. I still think that's one of the coolest things that Roy saw the outpour of support on campus and around Kansas and decided to stay.

What do you guys think about the outcome of tonights game on his decision? Think it mattered? Think he would have left, say, if he had won, or not won, etc etc?

Would appreciate opinions.

Also, if Larry Brown were to happen to take the job, would he lose his position for the Olympic Team?

i think if Roy won he wouldda left....but now more likeyl he stays....

the guy must feel deep down he has some unfinished business at Kansas...Roy being an emotional, sensitive, genuine guy with his feelings, i think he stays

Believe it or not, contrary to most people's opinions a lot of people around here want him to stay at KU. There's something to be said for loyalty, something that's missing far too often in the sports world today. It's also like the undying dream...people just need to get over it here and move on.

if KS woulda won

if KS woulda won

i think more likely he left, as dr freeze pointed out ...

I have read all the Dean's books and recall the Roy deal now that U mention it ... NC is my fave team, but Im not a blind lemming, I just think I understand how strong those ties are .. I interviewed george karl a couple times in seattle and he went on and on about how deep the devoiton runs throughout the NBA, etc for former Heels ... GK would never be offered the job for obvious reasons .. personally, LB is getting a lil on years and gets a jillion at Philly for coaching the mr crossover and I doubt he leaves ...

plus the chick pissing roy off after the game, then his classy perfect comebacks to her rudeness might even have bearing, everything weighs in

one thing someome please explain, why did Collison go out and foul for 5th with so much time left--that was idiotic ... their only hope was OT at that point more or less and they werent winning with him on bench

one more comment, Fudge Packer, retire ... every two secs he jumps to conclusions, "this team is tired!" "Oh my, now the other team is tired!" "That woulda been goal tending had graves tipped it in!" really six pack, what diff does it make whether ball goes in or not on off. goal tending--jeesh, he's killing me

ok, take care,
gregg

thanx monk

thanx monk

its so amusing, i liked the bet until AD was fired ...

this year has been very mediocre for me on games but i won 6 huge bets on futures

sf to win nfc west 2/1

zona +175 to win reg. season pac-10 (stealing money)

chicago to win oscar -175

roy to NC -150

pistons to win 43 -110

bengals not to win 7 games -120

its ironic how things even out ... i didnt lose a single larger bet on these futures .. i still have Ming at 10/1 for ROY too ...

many people hate tying up their money in futures but it has saved my bacon repeatedly thru the years, the grind of winning every day crushes me when i have to watch buzzer beats, wind blown HRs, and INTs taken the other way to cover  --esp. when Im yelling at HS kids to take care of the ball and quit taking bad shots, hehe

i really admire you guys who plow through the whole year betting 2-8 games per nite ... I just cant do it ... I pass on hardball and pick spots in hoops, and bet a lot in fball

anyhow, the best to all
gregg:D :) ;)

Give me a break. He gave Kansas all he had for 15 years in an era where coaching turnover is extremely high. He owes Kansas nothing. They should thank Williams for the past 15 years of hard work he gave them and wish him well in Carolina.

I agree with Hoops.

I wish the best for Roy Williams, a class act.

Going to be interesting for Kansas now, they screwed this up, they need to correct things in a hurry.

The Chancellor of KU ran Roy off, Bohl only slightly compounded it.
