it's a damn good thing he gets 4 and 5 star athletes because he has got to be one of the worst bench coaches period. He does less with so much more. :00x4

Yeah his fault duke shot 20 more free throws and Duke shot 60% to NC 25% from downtown

Someone clearly didn't watch this game or understands their team at all. Berry is the heart and soul of the team. 4 tick tack fouls tonight was an embarrassment and basically saved Duke from a 20point beat down. Woods went down, they lost all their G depth.

Duke shot 35 FTs
UNC shot 18

Duke is a jump shooting team
Carolina is an inside team who scored 80% of their points inside

This game was about as awful of an officiated game I've seen all year. Duke has 0% chance of winning the national title. Well, unless the refs are awful the entire stretch and given their history, it's possible.

FYI, had it not been from the shot of a lifetime, he could've had 3 titles at Carolina.

Roy isn't recruiting the top 5 classes like he used to. He's getting guys that stay longer. So the notion he does less with more is crazy.

How many do coaches that you consider so great have? Cal got 1, which will prob eventually get taken away. It ain't easy winning a national title. And this isn't 1990. There are more than 4 teams getting all the burger boys these days. Tony Bradley prob his biggest score as a big man, and most people don't know he was FL Gatorade POY lol

Pitino? Huggy? Calhoun? Boheim? Self?

People act like there's a coach out there currently with 10. These things aren't easy to win

I anxiously wait for you to tell us how many those guys above have :0002

My point is that it's just not easy to win. Some of the modern greats have zero, or 1. Roy is great, just like Pitino, Cal, Boeheim, Calhoun, K, Huggy, Self, etc....

PA proud
I see both sides

Roy has a helluva resume to lean on

But...im confident saying he wouldnt of had the success of say Shaka smart or Brad Stephens at smaller schoolz with lesser talent

Roys best assest is his recruiting...when you reside in kansas and UNC, its easier to get the 5* guys....2 titles is s great accomplishment....but to sipony's point, maybe it would be 3-5 if he was a better play designer or bench coach....

I think this scenario does not have to be a "either/or"...i think both sides can co exist.....hes a great recruiter and has great success with superior athletes but lacks the mental part at times

There is nothing wrong with that...recruiting is part of coaching, and if how you recruit leads to success, then you are a good coach...but you can still under achieve

I root for roy boy and watch him a lot ....but I can see why people sometimes think he lets games get away at times.

One helluva recruiter tho

UNC loses their star PG and interior player, yet returns to the Sweet 16 with a great shot at the elite 8 with maybe 1 lottery pick.

Meanwhile, the consensus #1 in the pre-season loses to a barely making the tournament South Carolina in the 2nd round with 4 potential lottery picks.

But it's Coach K so he repeatedly gets a pass for losing early. Meanwhile Roy gets criticized for losing late.

no doubt he is a great recruiter and motivator, but in-game coach not so much. Arkansas had no business being in that game on sunday. I agree coach k always gets a pass and jay wright continually bows out early ever year except last year. I would like to see what somebody like Gregg marshall (without his wife) could do at a powerhouse like n Carolina.

roy has a great shot at #3

any chance archie goes to Indiana if alford doesn't take it?

I think it goes Alford, Marshall, then Archie. I do know he's waiting for a prime job and not just going to take an upgrade. I think he's going to follow the same path brother Sean did. Biggest difference these loyal "mid-major" coaches are seeing is when they get injuries/misc it's tough to overcome(UD played this year without 2 key players). Elite programs get their talent pick and can overcome those type of losses.

I honestly think Archie is waiting on the OSU job. Matta's time is over and his health is playing a factor as well.
