$4.99 a bag at Menards but you get a $2.00 rebate. 4 bag max.

Decent deal, FWIW.

I was going to buy them all until they said 4 bag limit.

I usually use Cowboy from Lowes but didn't feel like driving all the 5 miles over there. :0003

Next Saturday I'm picking up this year's apple wood (well next years actually) from the orchard. After that, my buddy and I are going to make our own lump charcoal. Should be fun. We've never done it but it looks fairly easy to make a few hundred pounds....

The orchard about 3 miles down the road has 2 Jamaicans that make their own every year. There is a haze over the whole area when they're doing it.

I talked to one of them while they were making it. The wood was smoldering under a large mound of dirt. There was a small opening for air and stirring it I guess. He was using weeds out of the lake to keep the fire down.

We're using modified 55 gallon drums and some holes in the ground. Not sure how much work it will be. But the wood is almost free and I spend a few hundred a year on lump charcoal so its worth a try.

Keep us posted because I also spend a few hundred on charcoal too. Haven't used gas since I bought the smoker 4 years now.

Get some Kingsford. and don't look back!

They make lump?

You should know better by now.

I don't. Only kind available here is the Royal Oak, Cowboy and BGE.

Spending your money on "lump" is a waste. It's like buying bottled water. Buy the briquettes, and enjoy your cookout.

Either way, you'll be fine.

RO is by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to lump. Longest burn, highest heat and you get good large chunks in your bags. I don't have a Menards or else I would go get my 4 bag limit plus my wife's 4 bag limit. I go thru a bag a week during this time of the year.

Nothing quite satisfies as much as the fuel-tainted taste of meet cooked over briquettes soaked to the core in lighter fluid. MmmmmMmaMmM good.
