HELL
I am a nobody in this thread, but let me tell you from experience, dry socket is a major SOB. I thought my head was going to explode, and really nothing you can do about it but re-open the area and re-pack it if need be. At least that is what I remember, and that I ate Vicodins like they were m&ms that night thinking it would help.

Sorry gents for the late reply.

To be honest it's a little out of my area of expertise since I'm a pediatric dentist and don't deal with wizzies. With that said, the chance is pretty small and he is just cya. You aren't going to do permanent damage if you do go, but as the others pointed out it can be pretty unbearable if you were to get dry socket. And we aren't talking 'I am a bad mofo so I will tough it out'. I have seen DS bring a grown man to his knees.

If it were me and it was 4 days post op and I was symptom free I'd probably go. I did text an OMFS friend and will get back to the thread in the AM.

the only thing I am concerned about is if the plane itself with the cabin pressure and altitude can cause the clot to get dislodged and give me a dry socket.

if I get it once I am in the UK, so be it, I will find a dentist there. my concern is just getting it on the plane by the altittude/pressure changes

thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

You won't have a problem and if you're worried about it put gauze in there and bite down on it the for the whole trip.

I dont think it's something that would be instantaneous. Yes the pressure could affect the clot but is an infection and it will takE some time. If my oral surgeon buddy gets back to me I'll let you know but he can be sketchy on text response. I'd go.

would vicodin ES 7.5 be enough to medicate myself should a problem arise on the plane, saint?

Maybe 2 of them would be enough. If you're used to taking them, then no it's not enough because a dry socket is terrible pain, and I'm sure much more compounded with those pressures.
