Guys,
I'm moving to florida from NY and obviously there isn't any sports talk where I'm going nor much good music, and for my job I'm going to be driving quite a bit, I was wondering which satellite radio is better, XM or Sirius and how much it costs upfront besides the 10 bucks a month and how it's installed and stuff or any other opinions you guys have, I used to think it was a rip but since I'm gonna be driving quite a bit and not in a sports area with local talk I need espn radio or whatever else sporting news radio something to listen to and commercial free music, thanks in advance fellas

i've had xm radio for over a year and like it a lot. you get espn, espn news, fox sports, and sporting news. my amex was just charged $191 for a 1 year renewal. tons of non commercial radio and a great stand-up comedy channel.

sirius has nfl games and xm does not.

it's easy to hook up, just read the directions.

no idea, i have xm and never looked into it. it would have been handy for me during the last year.5 but my traveling back and forth between here and indy is almost over and i will be staying indoors on sunday afternoons next winter instead of driving so i don't need it but i am going to keep xm.

how's that for a run on sentence :D

Just wondering if you ever contribute anything around here. Every time I look on this forum you are always asking for this and details about that. P.S. I was wondering how old you were, because I could have sworn that I saw you post maybe a year ago that you were 18 and then in another fairly recent post you said you graduated from High School in 1994 with your 'Upper Level Clerical Skills.' Just checking dude. Inquiring minds want to know...

dj formotsa,
Do I ever contribute anything around here, you have 7 posts to your name, and you're asking me that question? No, to answer your question I don't have time every day nor am I a great enough capper to sit around and post analysis and I have no desire to brag about winners or get ripped, I do want to post more this coming year though as a 'resolution'. Why exactly do you waste time searching for my past posts, I'd love to have as much free time to bs around as you do, not trying to argue but why would you waste the time searching for my posts when you have 7?..By the way, I've met 2 madjacks members in person and have got along with both of them very well.

Jack and others re:XM,
What did you pay initially for the xm, I read like you need a few accessories and it's $99 or so upfront before the $9 a month, wasnt sure just checking, thanks for the help guys, hope to contribute more this year, not because of what this clown with 7 posts who preceeded me posted

Jack,
thanks bud for taking care of that and for the help re:xm, appreciate it. btw, I dont know if Kosar told you but I met him a few weeks ago, he's a good guy and spoke highly of you, I unfortunately can't make the super bowl party but hopefully next year I can, thanks for running a good site, it's some good entertainment and I speak for everyone in saying that it surely helps to beat the man

NY, I have XM too...the receiver (I have a Delphi Roady 2, the cheapest route available...Best Buy has it for $99 including everything you need to hook it up in a car, either through the radio or through the tape player) in between 100-200 dollars and there is a $10 "hookup" fee if you signup online, after that its 9.99 a month. FYI, espn, fsn, snr are not commercial free (how could they be, I guess). I agree with Jack the music is great, like the sports channels, and love the comedy channel.
You won't be dissapointed

Thanks Joe.
Yea, I saw the delphi roady as the cheapest on their site, it said like 129 or so, plus the 10 buck activation fee, so probably looking at 139 upfront, then the 10 a month, but I'm going to be driving a lot so I think it is probably worth it, espn radio blows compared to good NY local talk but obviously you cant get local talk on there, I'm a big classic rock and sometimes even rap fan and think it's worth having the no commercials and some decent sports......I also heard they are going to have all the baseball games on there come spring, not positive but that would be great

Was also thinking about buying one of these and this might be a stupid question, but I was wondering about the recepition in certain places.

Are there places where you won't be able to pull in the signal or are these things pretty much good to go no matter where you're at?? Basements, or certain buildings?

Thanks for anyone who can answer.

Am not an expert BUT have been doing my research and my best frind has had one from the start.
I am going to purchase the new MYFI by XM. This is an all in one piece. Can be used with headphones or in the car or in the office. The MYFI unit is compact and the "bundle" comes with everything to listen on the go-on the run or in the office.
XM leads subscribers by 3-1. Has TONS of sports ACC-PAC 10 and I believe just got the MLB package.
The MYFI is sold out in most stores for the holidays BUT it can be had on an ebay search brand new for $350(most places give 3 free months with it).
Hope this helps
-I will miss Howard by Sirius at this point is not half as good. And Opie and Anthony are XM

i've got sirius and i love it. There is about 65 commercial free music stations. plus about 75 station including espn and other sports stations. also, there is no extra charge for anything on sirius. it is about $2-$3 more per month, but no extras, including the nfl and howard stern. Hope this helps.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
some notes:

some notes:

I've had XM for a few years. Worked great in some cross-country trips. Only serious reception problems I had was in remote northern NV and patches in even more remote North Dakota.

Wal-Mart had the Delphi SkyFi for $54.27 a few weeks back.

That newest $399 XM reciever has a sports ticker (I read, haven't seen) that features a text showing sports scores. The XM skyfi2 has this also. The Sirius Sportster lists scores and notices of upcoming team broadcasts.

Sirius has a 7 year $220 million deal to carry NFL radio broadcasts. XM promises to carry "virtually all MLB games" starting this spring (a $650 mil deal), and has a deal with NASCAR.

Sirius will have March Madness this spring, and XM has NBA, NHL and 26 top colleges in package deals.

XM has ESPN radio and airs the audio for the ESPNews TV channel.

Sirius has some nat'l syndicated sports radio shows, and Bill Walton has good show Sat nights on Sirius' Jam_On channel.

XM has almost 3 million subscribers, and Sirius bit over 800,000. GM and Honda are major investors in XM, and Sirius has Ford and DaimlerChrysler AG as major partners. Toyota just announced they will install XM at the factory because "it better fits our future plans for data transmission" , but will offer Sirius as dealer installed option.

edit: reception is great in any building you can run the antenna to get a good satellite signal! Not an exact science here. Most hotel rooms no problem, others I had to run antenna all over the place, a few times simply blocked by building, etc and got nothing (very rare tho).

you will get dropouts in tunnels, between huge buildings in NYC, etc. Not as bad as interference listening to strong AM station on radio tho. Nearly perfect reception driving around out West.

in building basements, tunnels and stuff---forget it (unless basement has little window you can run antenna to). Or get that new $350 XM reciever. It has several hours of recording/timeshifing capability like TiVo. Would work great in basement if you don't have to hear something live (like baseball game!).

more edit: nice discussion here on MLB/XM radio..... http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=30830

another thread at this forum discusses the MLB programming issues on XM. evidently Sirius has had a number of complaints about how they handle the NFL.

here's the other good XM forum, answers all your questions!.... http://www.xm411.com/phpbb/index.php

Atlanta's best sports radio staion, 790 The Zone, is on Sirius channel 123. I have lived in three big cities (Atlanta being the biggest of them), and 790 the Zone was the best sports talk radio I have heard. Now that I am in Nashville, I listen to it online quite a bit. They have great national coverage, but you will get a slant to the Falcons, Bulldogs, Braves, and Yellow Jackets (Hawks intentionally left out).

Dawg...you mean you don't think George Plaster is the sh!t here in Nash? :142lmao:

I hadn't heard about the MLB package. I think XM and Sirius just need to go ahead and merge. Choosing between Howard and MLB is going to be tough for me.

XM will carry MLB next season. No NFL except constatnt updates on sports stations.

As for reception in the car, when you're under a bridge, overpass or something that blocks your view to the south it fails. Usually it's temporary and mostly when you're in a traffic jam listening to something important and happen to stop right under a friggen' overpass. :cursin:

i have it in my car (came with it) and I won't listen to anything else. Probably gonna try the Delphi also so I can listen to the Right Wing Talk station at home. ;) . Also Fox News.

Seriously, best music stations and best sound quality you can get.

And you can get it on you internet for $3.99/mo.

Does anybody know how the Delphi thingy works?
