-just as reference...and hey man, its not like before last season OSU schedules big non-conference games every season...As a fan I just want to see more of those non-conference games from all conferences which would help validate the strength of some these conferences...but we all know that its all about going undefeated under this BCS system so teams are reluctant to schedule those big non-conference games and conference championships is another issue...I hate that some conferences have them while some don't...it should be one way or the other...bottom line its a bunch of crap to have SEC last year labeled as the strongest conference based on some of the reasons I listed in my previous post...but I will admit that yes traditionally the SEC could be label at the top but once again that wasn't case last season because some of those teams are little over-rated and its not necessarily the case next season because it still remains to be seen

...speaking of questioning someone's mental ability, who criticized ND's SOS? I mean I saw where OSC questioned Michigan and UCLA being top dogs this upcoming season (or last for that matter) and mentioned that PSU was going to be down this year, but your insistance to bring ND into the debate and then lecture us on "our" critcism is both delusional and absurd. The guy was simply showing you that your blind arguments to put down the SEC are somewhat contradictory, since the team your support seems to have similar tendencies in scheduling.

Thats where you are wrong. It is not an accident that ND is not in a conference. ND prefers to have more scheduling flexibility, plus they have too many rivalries to play a full conference schedule.

That being said, there is NO similarity at all to how ND and SEC teams schedule. Please show me how Oldschooldipshit analogized their scheduling tendencies. He criticized a team that plays Michigan, PSU, USC, UCLA, and GT this season for not having a good SOS.

Then he said ND had a worse schedule than most SEC teams this year, even though I can think of AT LEAST 3 sources that ranked ND's higher than any SEC team, BEFORE AND AFTER the season.

ND scheduled THREEE TOP FIVE teams to start the year, and two more ranked opponents. Some of those teams had bad seasons thats not their fault. What other team schedules the big 10, pac 10, Big East, SEC all in the same year?? NOBODY
ND is not the powerhouse it used to be, but one of the reasons why is the fact they maintain one of the nation's top 10 schedules almost every year, even in off years. Anyone who criticizes ND's schedule does not understand the concept of football.

This thread is about SEC teams scheduling DUDS like DUKE, FIU, Lou Monroe, Western KY, etc. ND doesnt schedule "duds". They have long standing rivalries with academies that play out, but the rest of the teams they play are in MAJOR CONFERENCES and have ups and downs just like any other IA team.

As we all know these debates are quite subjective and rarely objective. I can actually be objective as a USC fan.

What has impressed me lately about the SEC is how they have learned how the scheduling game is changing. When AU was denied the opportunity to play either OU or USC-and please lets not get into a deserving debate-a lesson was learned by the SEC. That lesson was that it is ok to bulid up your schedule but try to lessen the games against 1-AA teams. From how the BCS was figured it seemed that the schedule strength was quite critical.

By doing this the SEC can keep their OOC games against winnable teams, a few speed bumps here and there, and also maintain the monies that these OOC games create. If I saw the schedule correctly, it looks like maybe 5-8 total games against 1-AA comp. This is far less than this year and definately last year.

Living in the South, but from California, I have learned to gain some appreciation for the passion and started to understand the financial impact of these games. You will also see that most OOC games that are scheduled are traditionally home games and the home and home is rarely happening.

I give major props to programs like Bama and Tenn who have traditionally scheduled strong OOC games, and it looks like the rest of the conference is catching up quickly.

In the poll of public perception is critical to play decent OOC comp NO MATTER HOW STRONG YOU PERCEIVE YOUR INTERNAL GAMES TO BE.

As teams like UGA are starting to play out of state OOC games, not just Ga Tech or OOC home games, the perception of the SEC strength can only grow as will their recruiting base.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with all of your comments ballsweat. (cool name by the way) except auburn had no chance to play in the NC game based on their preseason ranking of #18. Since the polls make up 66% of BCS formula, as long as AU was ranked behind OU and USC, they could've played Texas instead of Citadel and nothing would've changed as long as they were ranked beind the other two.

-good point Derek...I just don't like the fact that they don't have to share their bowl money with other teams like other conferences...which is one reason why they won't join plus the Big Ten will never take a 12th team so they can stay away from a Big Ten Championship game...but if they join the Big East I don't think they could play SC and Mich every year...college football is so fawked up in some many ways and it all has to do with $...if we could only have a playoff system

My view on the SEC from a former post...

- Bama isn't that much better of a team then Wiscy, Mich, and/or Iowa...I mean who did they even play last year, their non-conference games were a joke...and they only beat TT by 3 points in the bowl game whom isn't much better then an Northwestern

So they are better than NW at what they do best. Last time i checked though TT had the 26-30 ranked d overall (could be a little off, i really did check like 8 weeks ago) and NW had the 117th ranked overall d.

Bama had two tough games back to back, and played TT very tough, but had to get two miracle field goals to beat em. TT was a solid team last year. NW middle of road big 10

Agree for the most part. The most amazing thing about the big 10's strength this year was the fact that Michigan and Purdue fell waaay short of expectations, and Mich st completely fell apart. If Michigan had finished in the top 10, that woulda been about as good a year from a conference as I can remember.

Teams like Purdue and MSU really got looked down upon when the fell apart this season, particularly MSU midway through the season, but you have to attribute some of that downward spiral to the strength of the big ten. PSU and OSU were dominant, while Michigan, Wisky, Iowa, and NW all had strong years. Doesnt leave much room for anyone else, explaining the squeeze down applied to MSU and Purdue.

Really amplifies what PSU and OSU were able to do. Looking back at the conference as a whole, I DEFINATELY overestimated ND's chances against OSU to say the least.

-Okay I was a little harsh on Bama but with that defense that team should have been a lot better...and their offense just couldn't score

-As for TT and NW I pretty much tailed those two teams last season in a lot of my plays...IMO they a very similar...and I'll give Tech's defense a little more credit then I did before and if these two teams played Tech would probably win but the game would be a shoot out and I think NW would have some success on the ground with Sutton but its all hypothetical so who knows what would happen I just think it would a close game

Unfortunately a conference is not measured by how many teams won at least 9 games. The SEC was top heavy with good teams at the top with CRAP in the middle and bottom.

To make my point:
the big ten was 75-54, SEC was 79-61. Those numbers suggest a .56 win % for the SEC and a .58 win % for the Big 10. SEc has more wins only because it played 11 more total games, with an extra team.

The average Big 10 team won 6.82 games overall while for the SEC 6.58. Hmm, if the SEC had more "9-3 GREAT" teams but the average Big 10 team won more overall games, that means the Big 10 team was a stronger conference top to bottom.

As if I didnt already make my point, Big 10 had 7 teams that won 7 or more games. SEC only had 6 of those.

Big 10 did this while having a tougher SOS overall. More wins per team, higher conference win % against a tougher schedule....hmmmmmm

Sorry , numbers dont lie! There goes your argument that the SEC was better.
