Well, last week absolutely sucked, other than Awbarn and UcheaT losing of course! 1-4-1 was the record and it wasn't even that close!

Happy days are here again though.... my CrimsonTide comes off their first of two bye weeks to take on Reverend Nutt and his Ole Miss Rebels. Should be the matchup of the weekend in the SEC.

On to the plays....

Vandy at Jawga
Well, some things never change I suppose. All Vandy had to do was go into Starkpatch last weekend and beat a below average Bulldog team to become bowl eligible. The 'Dores returned to their former ways losing to MSU 17-14. They were held to 109 yards of total offense and only converted on 1 of 9 third down attempts. The key to this game was turnovers. Vandy had 2 and MSU had 0. That has been the "X" factor for Vandy all year. When they win the turnover battle, they win the game, plain and simple.

Meanwhile, UGA returned to action for the first time since their asswhipping by Alabama. Mark Richt and his 'Dawgs took Phat Phil and the Viles out behind the woodshed 26-14 in Athens. The score does not reflect UGA's dominance... they gained 458 yards on 81 plays, held Tennessee to 209 yards on 45 plays and had a 29-10 advantage in first downs. UGA had the ball for a whopping 42+ minutes of possession as well.

So what does this mean? Absolutely nothing I suppose. Vandy won the last time in Athens (24-22) and lost by a FG in 2007 (20-17). Of course, that win in 2006 is the only one by the 'Dores in the past 14 years.

Let's talk about offense... or lack there of when it's Vandy's offense. The 'Dores rank 116th out of 119 teams in passing offense with 90.3 yards per game, and 117th in total offense at 250.2 yards per game. QB Mackenzi Adams will start in place of Chris Nickson this weekend. Vandy coach Steve Martin... I mean Bobby Johnson pulled Nickson in last Saturday's loss after he threw an interception in the fourth quarter. The 'Dores failed to get a first down in the first and third quarters and finished with 107 yards of offense. Nickson completed just three of his 10 passes for 15 yards, and he hasn't thrown for more than 91 yards or completed more than nine passes in a game this season. YIKES!!!! UGAa ranks fourth in the nation in rushing defense, giving up 52.2 yards per game. The 'Dawgs, however, are 82nd in pass defense and surrender nearly 222 passing yards per game.

UGA QB Matthew Stafford is 22-5 as a starter. He registered career-high 25 completions and 310 yards passing last week. He has thrown for 5,775 yards with 34 TDs and 26 INTs in his 'Dawg career. Knowshon Moreno is tied for 12th in the nation in scoring with 60 points. Mohamed Massaquoi recorded a season-high 103 receiving yards and one TD on five catches against the Vols. Furthermore, Moreno rushed for 101 yards, his third 100-yard performance of the season.

The 'Dawgs O-line could start three freshmen against Vandy - center Ben Jones, guard Cordy Glenn and right tackle Justin Anderson. Vince Vance will miss the rest of the season and needs reconstructive surgery after hurting his knee in the second quarter. UGA lost projected starting left tackle Trinton Sturdivant to a season-ending knee injury before the opening game. Sophomore guard Clint Boling replaced Vance against UcheaT, and Head 'Dawg Mark Richt said sophomore Kiante Tripp, who had started the first three games at left tackle before moving to tight end, will return to playing tackle.

Vandy LB Patrick Benoist, safety Ryan Hamilton, CB Myron Lewis, CB D.J. Moore and LB Chris Marve rank among the conference defensive leaders. Benoist ranks second in the SEC with 59 total tackles and fifth with 29 solo tackles. Hamilton is tied for eighth with 45 tackles and tied for second with three INTs. Lewis is fifth with three QB sacks, eighth in INTs and 10th in passes defensed. Moore ranks fourth with six defended passes. Marve has been one of the league's top defensive newcomers, ranking 10th with 44 total tackles.

The last two years this game has come down to the foot of the placekicker. Vandy's Bryant Hahnfeldt is 7-of-9 in FGs, including three beyond 40 yards. He is also 16 of 16 on PATs. 'Dawg PK Blair Walsh scored a career high 14 points on four field goals (34, 20, 41, and 28 yards) and two PATs against UT. He has made 10 of his first 12 kicks. His two misses have come from 52 and 54 yards.

Vandy definitely will get to 7 wins this season. Unfortunately for them it won't get #6 this week. Jawga is too deep and talented to allow another Vandy upset in Athens. BUT.... the 'Dores are not a bad ball club. They will keep this game closer than the UGA faithful want. SHOW YOUR GOLD!

Trends for this game:
Commodores are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Commodores are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Commodores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
Road team is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 meetings.

My prediction is UGA 24-13

My bet is Vandy +14.5

Dores:toast:

I do not have an earthly idea what is going to happen in LSU @ SC. How will Jarret Lee and LSU react to the pummeling? I dunno. How will Spurriers O with a frosh QB perform against LSU's obviously overrated secondary? I dunno. Can LSU run against a solid front like SC? Until last week I say yep, but now I dunno. Why is this line dropping? I figure because SC is gonna win:(

Any ideas?

Alabama vs Ole Miss
The most Reverend Houston Nutt and his Ole Miss Rebels come calling on Nick Satan this weekend in T-town. Johnny Reb was knocked off at home by the Gamecocks 31-24 two weeks ago and 'Bama is coming off their first bye week of the season. Ole Miss will be shooting for another notch on its belt of upsets after taking out Florida in September. Alabama leads the series with Ole Miss 44-9-2 and has won four straight meetings and 20 of the past 23. They have only lost once to Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama is playing just poorly enough in their games so far this season to allow CNS to yell and scream about not finishing strong and following the process. The Tide committed three turnovers and had 10 penalties for 92 yards - all season highs in their last game against Kentucky. Fortunately, they have outscored their opponents 88-0 in the first quarter so far this season.

'Bama QB John Parker Wilson struggled against Kentucky, going 7-of-17 for 106 yards with an INT and getting sacked three times. However, in two career games - both wins - against the Rebels, Wilson is a combined 42-of-68 for 471 yards with two TDs and a passer rating of 126.7. RB Glen Coffee had a career game against the Mildcats with 218 yards rushing and one touchdown on 25 carries. With 708 rushing yards and five TDs this season, the junior paces the SEC's top ground attack, which gains 226.3 yards per game. Freshman WR Julio Jones has hauled in 19 passes for 278 yards and four scores.

Ofensively for the Rebs, QB Jevan Snead ranks third in the conference in both passing average (212.0 ypg) and TD passes (9) and is fourth in pass efficiency (132.2) and total offense (214.5 ypg). As a receiver, Dexter McCluster is fourth in the SEC in receiving yards per game (68.5 ypg) and seventh in receptions (4.2 per game). Shay Hodge is second in the SEC in TD receptions with four and ranks fifth in receiving yards per game (62.0 ypg), just behind McCluster. Turnovers have also plagued the Rebels, as they committed three versus USC-East and 15 in their past five games.

'Bama's rush defense, which faces the conference's third-ranked rushing team in Ole Miss (163.0 yards per game), has been dominant. The Tide are allowing 50.8 yards per game on the ground, second-best in the nation behind TCU. Terrence Cody has recorded 15 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss this season. He has also added one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one quarterback pressure. Sophomore LB Rolando McClain leads the defense with 44 tackles with 3.5 TFLs and three pass break-ups.

For the Rebs defensively, in just three games, Greg Hardy has taken over the team lead in sacks with 2.5 and has three 3.5 TFLs. He posted 2.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks against Florida and frequently put pressure on Tim Tebow. Jamarca Sanford led the team and equaled his career high of 13 tackles against USC-East.

Ole Miss PK Joshua Shene was perfect against South Carolina, converting all three PATs and connecting on a 37-yard FG. He is 7-for-8 on field goals this year, missing only a 47-yarder against Vandy. Tide PK Leigh Tiffin has made 28 of his last 36 FG attempts dating back to the UGA game last year, including 9 of 13 in 2008. His 54-yarder vs. Clemson ranks third in 'Bama history. He leads the SEC with 1.60 FGs per game so far this year. He now has 50 points in six games this season, averaging 8.3 per contest that ranks fourth in the SEC.

There's just something about Houston Nutt taking an unranked team on the road against a top 5 team. It's when he's at his best, motivating his teams with the zeal of a Baptist preacher. The only problem is that Ole Miss faces a No. 2-ranked Alabama team this weekend that's coming off a bye week rested, healthy and more focused than ever. As my rule, I never bet the Tide. Looking forward to sitting back with my half gallon of Jim Beam tomorrow afternoon and watching a great football game. When this line first came out, I was leaning towards Ole Miss, but since it's down to 11, I think 'Bama covers. ROLL TIDE!

Trends for this game:
Home team is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

My prediction is Alabama 29-13

My lean is Alabama -11

This next one is for my friend Cie...

LSwho at USC-East
Did Les Miles get the number of that truck from last Saturday night? I didn't get to watch any of the game as I was still in full party mode at my golf outing, but I saw that the Bayou Bengals had made it 20-14. Imagine my shock on Sunday when I saw that the Reptiles won 51-21. I don't have any idea how Urban Meyer and his ego could fit through any doorway this week in Gainesville! LSwho has allowed 50 or more points just five times in its long history of SEC play. Saturday night however, marked the third time Florida has been the culprit.

I don't know what the Mad Hatter has done this week to get his Tigers ready for an under the radar Gamecock team. LSwho is trying to recover from their worst defeat in 6 years. You can't just wipe that from your memory overnight or in a week's time in my opinion.

The 'Cocks are coming off back to back road wins in conference games (Ole Miss and Kentucky). Very impressive in the SEC for sure, no matter the opponent. It's what they do at home in conference play that leaves the fans shaking their heads. USC-East just doesn't win this type of game at home. They always lay an egg at Williams-Brice in a big matchup. UGA earlier this season and last year vs Vandy, Florida and Clemson come to mind.

LSwho RB Charles Scott had his streak of consecutive 100-yard games snapped at four vs. Florida, but he still ranks third in the SEC with 114 yards per game. QB Jarrett Lee is third in the SEC in pass efficiency having completed 68 of 115 passes for 852 yards and eight TDs. WR Brandon LaFell ranks first in the conference in both receptions per game (5.8) and yards per game (81.4).

The USC-East defense is rated first in the SEC in both total yards per game (240.9) and pass defense (132.0). Eric Norwood is fifth on the team with 31 stops. Emanuel Cook leads the team and is fifth in the SEC in tackles with 56 tackles this season (8.0 per game). Jasper Brinkley has 32 tackles on the season, including 3.0 tackles for loss. They have only allowed 15.0 points per game and given up fewer than 70 yards on the ground in two of its last three contests.

The Head Ball Coach is still playing musical QBs at USC-East. Not a fan of that system at all. Chris Smelley was tremendous in the win over Ole Miss, stunk it up against Kentucky and was benched for Stephen Garcia, who was fantastic in the win over UAB before getting replaced by Smelley before the Rebel game. Got that? Mike Davis has carried 87 times for 354 yards, an average of 4.1 yards per carry. He is averaging 59.0 yards per game, ranking seventh in the SEC.

USC-East PK Ryan Succop leads the nation in FG attempts this season with 19. LSwho PK Colt David continues his climb up both the school and SEC record books. David is ranked second in Bayou Bengal history in career scoring with 309 points, just 12 points behind Kevin Faulk. In addition, David is third in school history in career FGs with 44 and FG attempts with 58.

A Saturday night in Columbia, another big home game for the 'Cocks. I just don't see how they get it done. While I'm not completely sold on QB Lee from LSwho... at least I know he is going to go in on every play. Another missed opportunity for the HBC and his team. HOLD THAT TIGER!

Trends for this game:
Tigers are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. loss.
Gamecocks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

My prediction is LSwho 20-10

My bet is Bayou Bengals -2.5

Mississippi State at UcheaT
Last week I called my stockbroker and told him to buy as much stock in Krispy Kreme doughnuts as he could. With the season the Viles are having, Phat Phil is going through those warm and delicious pieces of heaven at a higher rate than normal. A loss this week with 'Bama up next could spell an 0-5 start in conference play. I know that patience is wearing thin in ObKnoxville and that hot seat is getting almost unbearable for the Great Pumpkin.

On the other side of the field, Sly Croom picked up a big win last week when his Bulldogs beat previously unbeaten Vandy 17-14. That could be the win that turns things around for MSU.

The Viles 12 point loss last week at UGA was a lot worse than the margin showed. They were held to 209 yards of total offense on 45 plays and allowed 29 first downs to the 'Dawgs. Ucheat's passing game is one of the worst in the nation. QB Nick Stephens will start his third career game. He is 24-of-49 for 406 yards and three TDs this season. He has not thrown an INT in two starts. Arian Foster boasted 196 yards on 25 carries in his first two games (98 ypg, 7.8 ypc), but has gained just 145 yards on 43 carries in his last four games (36.3 ypg, 3.3 ypc). MSU is allowing just 138 yards per game through the air. I say advantage Bulldogs.

There aren't many offenses worse than UcheaT's, but the Bulldogs are one of them. The MSU passing game won?t be going anywhere on a fantastic Vile secondary, while the running game should have a tough time cranking out any long drives. RB Anthony Dixon's 27 rushes for 107 yards versus Vandy, he moves into ninth place all-time at MSU in rushing yards. This is also Dixon's seventh 100-yard rushing performance of his career which is tied for 11th all time at State.

Viles PK Daniel Lincoln is 5-of-9 on FGs this season after making 21 of 29 a year ago. They have not attempted a field goal in three of six games this year. Bulldog PK Adam Carlson's first quarter field goal last week moved him into eighth place in MSU history with 36 field goals attempted.

There is no nice way to put it, this is a battle between the bottom feeders of the SEC. The loser is almost certainly eliminated from bowl consideration. This will not be a pretty game and there could be more FGs than TDs scored. I think it's asking too much for MSU to win on the road, but I don't think it's asking too much to cover the spread. HAIL STATE!

Trends for this game:
Volunteers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Bulldogs are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win.
Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games.

My prediction is UcheaT 16-12

My bet is MSU +8

Arkansas at Kentucky
The Mildcats laid an egg last week at home losing to USC-East 24-17 despite forcing 4 turnovers. Arkansas and head Hog Bobby Petrino earned their first win of the SEC season at Awbarn 25-22 holding the hapless Tigers to 193 yards of total offense.

Me thinks that Arkansas played a reeling Awbie team last weekend and was able to sneak in and steal a victory. It's possible they could do the same this week as the Mildcats are losers of two straight (Alabama and USC-East). Of course those two losses are by a combined 10 points. The Hogs really need this game if they want to be playing in December in a bowl game.

Offensively for UK, the passing game is wildly inefficient and the ground attack ineffective, for the most part. Remember the offense only came up with one TD against Louisville, UK has only averaged 19.5 points per game against FBS teams.
UK QB Mike Hartline ranks sixth in the SEC in total offense, averaging 169.0 ypg. Derrick Locke is the team's leading rusher with 269 yards. Leader Dicky Lyons, Jr., will be out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a knee injury during the South Carolina game.

UK's defense has been terrific, leading the SEC, and ranking third in the nation, allowing 10.5 points per game. Trevard Lindley, who holds the school record for career pass breakups (30), leads the SEC and is tied for 12th in the nation in passes defended. He has charted seven pass breakups, including three against Alabama, and three interceptions this season. Jeremy Jarmon leads the team and is tied for sixth in the SEC in tackles for loss this season with 5.5.

Not much I can say that is nice or positive about Arkansas' offense. QB Casey Dick is second in the SEC and ranks 41st in the nation in total offense per game with an average of 236.8 yards per outing. This is mainly because the Hogs have been so far behind they've had to throw the ball to play catchup. RB Michael Smith will be the key to any chance for the Hogs to pull the upset. Awbarn didn't have an answer for him last week. Will the Mildcats?

Jerry Franklin leads the Hogs with 52 tackles in the first six games. He has garnered 34 solo tackles and 18 assisted stops. Elton Ford is pacing all SEC true freshmen in tackles per game with 5.3 stops per outing.

Bottom line for me is that I don't think that UK is laying enough points for me to take the Hogs, because that's how I'm leaning. Arkansas is still a very bad team who got their first SEC win last week against a very poor team. UK should win by at least 10 points. ON, ON U of K!

Trends for this game:
Razorbacks are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Razorbacks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
Razorbacks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

My prediction is Mildcats 24-10

My bet is UK -7.5

Here are the totals....

Vandy at Jawga... O/U 43
I love the UNDER here. I see Vandy staying within the spread and don't see UGA scoring more than 24-27 points. Decided at last minute not to play this.

Under is 11-1-1 in Commodores last 13 conference games.
Under is 6-1 in Commodores last 7 games following a S.U. loss.

My lean is UNDER 43

Ole Miss at Alabama... O/U 49
All trends point to the Over here, but I don't see that happening. 'Bama's "D" won't give up a lot of points and I think the Rebel "D" is better than advertised. Definitely love the Under here.

My bet is UNDER 49

LSwho at USC-East... O/U 43.5

Almost every trend is for the Over in this game. I think this is a real defensive battle and love the Under here. I like LSwho's QB but think he is still a bit green and it doesn't sound like the HBC has settled on just one QB. I smell the UNDER!

My bet is UNDER 43.5

Mississippi State at UcheaT... O/U 38

With these two offenses, the first one to 3 points might win. Every trend points to the UNDER except one... the OVER is 4-1 in the last 5 matchups. That last trend is deceiving since both teams are in opposite divisions the last five meetings were in '07, '03, '02, '98 & '95.

My bet is UNDER 43.5

Arkansas at Kentucky... O/U 44

With the injuries piling up on both sides of the ball for each team this should be a low scoring affair. The trends for each team make this a tossup, so no bet for me.

My lean is UNDER 44

Any reason why you think the line jumped on the GA/Vandy game from 14.5 to now 16.5?

Nice write-ups. Look for a different Vandy offense today. Good luck on your plays.

5-2 for the day on posted plays, 28-18-3 overall. 2-0 on leans.

Didn't see the offensive outburst coming from UcheaT. Hopefully it's a one time thing.

Definitely worried about Alabama and their lack of putting teams away in the second half. It might not be a factor in their next two games, but they had better get it figured out before LSwho and Awbarn.

Vandy played a pretty good game this afternoon. Way too many points for them to be getting. Jawga has a lack of killer instinct as well.

As usual, the HBC and Gamecocks lay an egg at home. Total domination in the first half and they are held scoreless the last 30 minutes. Les Miles moves to 7-0 in games following a loss.

Arkansas seems to get better and better each week. Didn't get to watch the game, but it sounds like they gave one away on the road.

Hope everyone did well today. :toast:
