SEOUL (Reuters) - The Seoul subway authority will install toilets in drivers' compartments after one of its engineers plunged to his death, apparently relieving himself from a train that was in motion.

The Seoul Metro plans to provide nearly 400 toilets from this month in drivers' cabs and increase the number of staff bathrooms at stations, a spokesman said on Thursday.

"A major concern is the smell," said Kim Kyung-mo.

The incident that prompted the move took place in December when a driver apparently suffering from diarrhoea leaned out of his compartment and fell on the tracks. He was hit by another train, local media reported.

The toilets consist of a collapsible seat that stands a few centimetres off the ground and a receptacle. The device can be stored in a compartment about the size of a thick briefcase.

"Seoul Metro believes this step will help our staff better focus on transporting our citizens safely," it said in a news release.

Clearly, the phrase "Shit Happens" applies here.

Trains don't have steering wheels!

You would be surprised what the engineer is responsible for while in motion.

In 2001 when I worked on the RR the engineers were knocking down over 100k.

The conductors and engineers are responsible for trains that are very often over a mile long. They travel on tracks that are often 100 years old and believe me traveling thru the mountains on down grades you better be wide awake.

I don't know much about them either, but I'm not dumb enough to think they have a steering wheel.:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

agent - I know your about as stupid as mud.

Let me explain it to you since HH is proably out working to pay the rent money.

I was referring to yyz not the train. I know these concepts are hard to grasp.

behind the wheel refers to yyz's brainpower or lack thereof.

after all yyz is going to sit in the snow at Lambeau today . How bright can he be.

One time when I was about 9 yr old my grandfather lived in a small town and there were railroad tracks at the back of his property.

There were woods all around and I knew every nook and cranny. There was this big rock ledge that went straight up about 50 ft or so and I used to climb up it for the challenge of it. I never fell but I knew I was taking a big chance but it never bothered me.

When I was standing up there I could look down as the train went by about 20 ft away. It was winter time and I was up there kinda bored. I saw the train coming. I quickly prepared 3 large iceballs.

As the train went by I threw the iceballs rapid fire. One of the iceballs hit the train guy looking out the window on the head. As he fell he must have landed on the whistle and it blew so loud it made me jump back.

I laughed about it and went back to the house to have a chicken sandwhich which my grandmother was making for lunch.

My grandma asked me . did you hear the train whistle blow, they never blow it like that ?

I just shrugged

Just then there was a knock on the door. As I looked out there I could see a policeman and a train conductor.

They were asking my grandfather if there were any kids staying there ?

So my grandfather called me out there. I told him its ok grandpa I can handle this. So my grandfather left me outside with them.

They said .... Did you throw a iceball and hit the train ?

I said ..........No mofo it wasnt me

I pulled out my knife and sliced off a piece of the train guys left ear sending him into shock from loss of blood. I stuck the ear in my pocket.

The policeman started going for his gun but I tasered him in the nuts and he went down flopping like a fawking fish. I hit him twice with
50 thousand volts and threw my head back laughing.

I hit the train guy over the head with a baseball bat that my grandfather kept by the door for just such occasions.

As they were both out colder than cucumbers, I dragged them both in the woods and buried them.

I went in and asked my grandma for a glass of milk and finished eating my sandwhich.

yeh but how often do you hear about a train jumping the tracks

Once you get it moving you can pretty much take a siesta.

If you do hit something on the tracks, all you got to say is .... yeh well trains brakes suck.

Trains derail everyday. You don't hear about them because it is not in your back yard. I've put a few cars on the ground!

You can't sleep because there's a deadman switch that has to be reset every min or so or a whistle sounds. Besides that there are signals every few miles that have to be called out on the radio back to the dispatcher. There are speed limits that must be maintained.

Don't forget you have a mile worth of cars behind you that have to be stretched out. You don't want all that slamming into you.

As far as hitting anything on the tracks. The tracks are federal property and only the trains are supposed to be on them. If you get hit it's your fault you were trespassing

I remember doing about 40mph one nite. The fog was so thick you couldn't see the front of the engine. If we hit something we wouldn't have known it anyway.

I was on a freight train. Just 2 people, the engineer and the conductor.

I probably had as much time riding in a taxi as I did on the train. Spent many a nite in a hotel waiting for a train to be put together. And a lot of time sitting idle on a siding waiting for Amtrac to go by.

Except for the yard jobs ( which are few ) most of the trains roll at nite. If you like getting called in at 2am and not knowing where you're going and how long you're going to be there then it's a good job.

Oh I forgot about riding the back of a train at 3am when it's zero degrees out. Having to jump off on ice, throwing a switch and jumping back on.
