Good post. Music makes the world go round. If you like blues JACK then you need to check out some of Alvin Lee's early stuff when with Ten Years After. The free concert on website of wolfgangs vault is an incredible display of guitar legend. Slow Blues in "c" being one if his best works. Growing up in Chicago I am somewhat of a blues fanatic and can't get through the day without at least a little Muddy................

Cheers

Thought I'd toss this one in, bought it the other day and really liked it. The group is "Gomez" and they had a recent pop/rock hit. Definitely doesn't qualify as heavy or hard guitar rock, but some of the most unique, well-crafted songmaking I've heard in a long time. A couple of mainstream pop/rock songs on there, but a couple of really unique ones, too. If you're bored, give them a listen sometime. They are really talented and change up the musical style often on the same tune, kind of unique.

Again, probably too middle-of-the-road for some, but worthy music, I think.

Not that he can match the heavy blues talent of the ones mentioned here, Keb Mo' is an incredible artist.

My wife and I had Every Morning as our wedding first dance song which I guess is both gay and kind of cool at the same time...

I was just happy to be able to slip in a blues song for our wedding.

It seems that the people active in this thread tend to lean to the blues side of things. The reason why I find the blues most appealing is the passion that the guitarists emote from their instruments as well as the raw vocals that accompany the music.

If you fall into this category, do yourselves a favor and download:

Etta James.............Sugar On The Floor

Starts off a bit slow, but by the middle of the song she is screaming:scared ............If you don't feel any emotions by the end of this song, you need to pull your Bay City Rollers albums back out.

While on the topic of emotional songs. There was a song released a few years back by Natalie Imbruglia that was a semi-hit called Torn. She may have had a semi-hit with it, but the original was done by a band called:

Ednaswap.........................Torn

Download this and you will get a whole new understanding of that song, and if God forbid the Imbruglia version ever come on the radio, you will not be able to listen to that version.

awright!

looks like this thread is going to help me to find lots of new goodies (well...new to me).

I just may have to wait a few days...I can't really enjoy a good downloading session unless I've got something to smoke; enough left for a bedtime snack and that's it. Hope the smoke talk doesn't turn any viewers off...to each their own as is best for our continued freedom.

I still hope that someone check outs Mrs. Beasley by Buckethead and tells me what they think. He really pours it out with the guitar on this track and, as mentioned, it's really reminiscint of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. 3:57. Off the disc Giant Robot.

Hope to actually see a ballgame tonight. That would be special.

Doin' C's in a bit.

hey, fatdaddycool...Ten Years After has some great stuff. I especially like the discs Cricklewood Green and A Space in Time. Good recommendation for anyone into the rock/blues fusion.

I survived Thursday. Gambling, that is.
Took the points with Air Farce but also had a piece of the moneyline so that finish was kind of a drag. BC points and moneyline miraculously came in. Doing better in the NCAA than the NHL so maybe I should post. Mostly square picks for me there, though I did it doggie-style tonight.

...moving right along...

C

*CCR - Ramble Tamble (7:13)...these guys really don't have a single BAD tune, but this is probably my fave (along with Run Through the Jungle, Have You Ever Seen the Rain?, and a few others); good rocker with a solid instrumental stretch within; off the disc Cosmo's Factory

f62703cgnfz.jpg

*Cream - Tales of Brave Ulysses (2:48)...these guys also produced nothing but great tunes; this track (a rather psychedelic rocker) and White Room would be my faves; the disc Disraeli Gears
is their best and contains both this track and Sunshine of Your Love, along with many other goodies

f11545sy58r.jpg

*Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young - Woodstock (3:56)...off the fabulous disc Deja Vu, this track was actually written by Joni Mitchell; classic rock as are all 3 I've listed so far; other fave CSN&Y tunes include Carry On, Almost Cut My Hair, Ohio and Suite Judy Blue Eyes

*Cactus - Guiltless Glider (8:37)...this early 70's supergroup put out a couple of fabulous albums before going their seperate ways; heavy blues akin to Led Zeppelin and Cream; the whole disc (Restrictions) and their self-titled disc are both worth persuing

Cressida - Let Them Come When They Will (11:44)...a little more psychedelic than LZ or Cactus, this early 70's group is more of the blues/rock fusion that I really dig; tough find but their self-titled disc and the disc Asylum are both, so I've read, quite sought after by collectors

*Cry of Love - Peace Pipe (4:03)...had to include at least something a little more recent; from the 1993 disc Brother, which is the only one that they released with lead singer Kelly Holland--another rocker that was taken from us too early; sounds a little like Bad Company or Aerosmith; guitarist Audley Freed also played with the Black Crowes; this track and Bad Thing apparently got some radio play

instrumental:
Eric Clapton - Classical Gas (2:36)...Eric really shows off his talent with the acoustical on this track; for a more psychedelic instrumental by Clapton, check out Will Gaines (3:48) off the disc Rush
---MY CLAPTON COLLECTION IS FAR FROM COMPLETE...IN PARTICULAR, I'D LOVE TO SEE SOME INSTRUMENTAL PICKS IF ANYBODY CAN HELP OUT THERE...MENTION REALLY ANY (preferably older) SOLO STUFF THAT YOU DIG AND I WILL DO SOME DIGGING MYSELF

*Buckethead - Soothsayer (9:04)...off the 2006 disc Crime Slunk Scene, this piece is a cool, fairly progressive rocker that contains several mood shifts; a little more appealing than some of his other tracks, a lot of which use electronic drumming instead of the standard kind (which I prefer); not a bad place to start for Buckethead if you can't find the mind-blowing Mrs. Beasley

D's are going to be a lot of fun tomorrow. Going to be hard to pick just 6+1.

If things work out right then I'll be getting restocked tomorrow, meaning that I might be ready to get a good downloading session going. Will be the calm before the storm, gambling-wise, so I'm going to see if I can't score me up some of these recommendations.

Thanks again and KEEP 'EM COMIN'!

B-

Bauhaus- Stigmata Martyr (the perfect halloween song)

Big Black - Kerosene (grest especially if you've ever lived in a small town)

Black Flag - anything by them is great ... Rise Above, I've Heard It Before, and Slip It In are my favorites.

Blood On The Wall - Stoner Jam :SIB

Caspar Brotzmann Massaker - great avant garde guitarist.

Butthole Surfers - Sweat Loaf (kind of a Sabbath cover but not really ... very cool.

C-

Jim Carroll Band - City Drops Into The Night or It's Too Late (for those who think lyrics matter)

Nick Cave - anything from the Murder Ballads cd.

Ciccone Youth - Into The Groove(y). Sonic Youth covering Madonna.

Coil - Tunnel Of Goats ( I dare you to listen to this one on headphones while stoned). :scared

Controlled Bleeding - The Tormentor's Song or Current 93 - Falling Back In Fields Of Rape. This stuff is WAY out there and only recommended for the most adventurous.

T.V. party tonight!
T.V. party tonight!
T.V. party tonight!
T.V. party tonight!

We're gonna have a T.V. party tonight!

Alright!

We're gonna have a T.V. party alright!

Tonight!

We've got nothing better to do
Than watch T.V. and have a couple of brews

All our friends are gonna hang out here tonight

Alright!

We're gonna pass out on the couch alright

Tonight!

We've got nothing better to do
Than watch T.V. and have a couple of brews

Don't talk about anything else
We don't wanna know!
We're dedicated
To our favorite shows!

We sit glued to the T.V. set all night
And every night!
Why go into the outside world at all?
It's such a fright!

We've got nothing better to do
Than watch T.V. and have a couple of brews

T.V. news shows what it's really like out there
It's a scare!

You can go out if you want
We wouldn't dare!

We've got nothing better to do
Than watch T.V. and have a couple of brews

Don't talk about anything else
We don't wanna know!
We're dedicated
To our favorite shows!

I wouldn't be without my T.V. for a day
Or even a minute!

Don't even bother to use my brain anymore
There's nothing left in it!

We've got nothing better to do
Than watch T.V. and have a couple of brews

Wait a minute! My T.V. set doesn't work!
It's broken!
What are we gonna do tonight? This isn't fair!
We're hurtin'

We've got nothing left to do
With no T.V. and just a couple of brews

What are we gonna talk about?
I don't know!
We're gonna miss our favorite shows!
NO T.V. PARTY TONIGHT!

cancel my subscription to the resurrection

redsfann...you nut...not the kind of lyrics I'm generally looking for in a song...

Before I sink
Into the big sleep
I want to hear
I want to hear
The scream of the butterfly.

Come back, baby
Back into my arms.

We're getting tired of hanging around
Waitin' around with our heads to the ground.
I hear a very gentle sound.
Very near yet very far
Very soft yet very clear.
Come today. Come today.

What have they done to the earth
What have they done to our fair sister
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and
Dragged her down.

I hear a very gentle sound.
With your ear down to the ground.

WE WANT THE WORLD AND WE WANT IT NOW!

...now...

...NOW!!!!!

(the Doors, When the Music's Over)

D

*the Doors - When the Music's Over (10:55)...if memory serves, this is a track that Jack said was one of his all-time favorites, about 4 or 5 years ago, in a thread that I most likely started...I remember this because this track is one of my all-time faves--kicks some serious butt--definately better that The End, in my opinion; other Doors favorites of mine include LA Woman, The WASP, Peace Frog/Blue Sunday, Ship of Fools, Not to Touch the Earth and Break on Through; another very talented band that had their output cut short due to an untimely death; off the essential disc Strange Days (1967)

f86630y72ox.jpg

*Deep Purple - The Mule (5:22)...off 1971's Fireball, this remains one of my favorite Purple tracks; phenomenal drumming, great guitar work, intriguing lyrics and just generally the heavy psychedelia that I'm most passionate about...have it playing now...highly recommened; not my favorite artist but some other I'm in love with include Fools and Child in Time, neither of which are for the faint of heart; an often over-looked band these days, I'd say they're worth seeking out if you're into early 70's hard rock (if you ARE then you likely already have 'em)

f68736ylzsd.jpg

*Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing (5:46)...I'm only really into a few tracks from these guys but this one is a must-have for any rock collection; pick #22 of guitar player magazine's top 100 greatest guitar solos; Knopfler has a very original style

the Deviants - Metamorphosis Explosion (8:53)...1969; totally psychedelic track from this cross between the Fugs and the Stooges

*Doucette - Mama Let Him Play (4:28)...Canadian release from 1978; a good rocker from a year that was pretty dissappointing as far as quality rock releases goes...disco:scared was doing it's thing

*Down - Lies (I don't what they say but) (6:23)...a more funky track from this metal oufit; very good

*Dust - From a Dry Camel (9:50)...if you like long, psychedelic pieces then I'd go for this track; American release from 1971, the whole disc is worthwhile, but I like this trippy track best

instrumental:
Dream Theater - Erotomania (6:44)...I can't stand these guys but this track is pretty cool because they sh-t th- f-c- -p; heavy progressive stuff, which I usually like, but I think these guys are WAY overrated; their discs Images and Words, Awake and the recent Train of Thought are tolerable

*Buckethead - Nottingham Lace (6:33)...solid heavy rocker; a bit funky; great guitar work and another instrumental, as are all the Buckethead tracks I'm listing

Time to munch some food then figure out if I'm doing any more Saturday action. Likely a yes. I think I actually won't wait to try the Senators. ...
...there. Done. I could get either -140 or -150.
Guess which one I picked?
Should be a cakewalk. Brodeur is done.

Yeah...there'll be more.
Lots of hockey action and oodles of football.

Just got to play my cards right.

Lost in a roamin' wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane

Actually The End is a pretty fascinating track, too.
(listening now while trying out a new product)
I still prefer when the music's over.

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the king's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake
Ride the snake
To the lake
The ancient lake, baby
The snake he's long
7 miles
Ride the snake.
He's old
And his skin is cold.

Gonna take a face from the ancient gallery, walk on down the hall and try to complete my weekend madness. Got good vibes going.

E

*Eagles - Hotel California (6:31)...kinda overheard this one a little over the years but it remains a rock classic; ranked 8th on guitar player mags top 100 greatest guitar solos...some of Walsh's better work on this one

d767055mc13.jpg

*David Essex - Rock On (3:25)...quite funky radio hit; worth a score

Electric Wizard - Return Trip (10:03)...this heavy metal/stoner rock band really gets sludgy on this track; all their work pretty much sounds the same but if you like Sabbath clones then you'd probably dig these guys

...what can I say?...slim picken's with E's...

Exuma - The Obeah Man (6:20)...voodoo references permeate this early 70's hard rock outfit's stuff; sounds like early King Crimson

Earshot - Unfortunate (5:33)...one of the better tracks by this indie rock band

Ethos - Placebo (9:00)...progressive psychedelic piece from 74? (I think)

instrumental:
*Explosions in the Sky - Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean (8:43)...much of this instrumental rock bands stuff is too mellow for me--sounds sorta like Tortoise or Mogwai--but this piece is pretty good; sounds sorta like Meddle-era Pink Floyd

*Buckethead - Padmasana (11:39)...very good track of the quality disc Electric Tears

whatever anybody else thinks...I'll be using this thread during my next downloading session--lotsa good suggestions for me.

I pity anybody who doesn't appreciate music.

I'm planning on taking some time soon to add to your great thread you have here. I just couldn't resist posting the lyrics to my favorite Black Flag song after Godsfavoritedog mentioned Black Flag in his post.

Was listening to the local small college radio station here in town the other day when the college-kid DJ put on New Riders of the Purple Sage...:00hour

I just figured that out last night, actually.
Did some downloading and one of the Black Flag songs I scored was TV Party.

Also scored some
Agnostic Front
Alarm - The Stand
Archers of Loaf
Joe Bonamassa
Foetus
Jeff Golub
and then a few others not listed here (some Bowie and some Blues Explosion...a couple of others)

I wasn't sure where you were comin' from.
Know now.

Gonna tackle F at some point today.

Rock n' Roll!
