Should I Quit or Get Fired?

The bulk of my experience has been in clinics. I was previously certified in HIV/AIDS care. I've worked in case management and, a year, in hospice. I lack hospital experience. That, and the "Permanent Callout", are what I believe are holding me back. It may be my age as well, but they'll never admit that!

Hmm, I don't know what your age is but I will say that it without a doubt becomes a factor. The main reason is because you can get a younger nurse for LESS money vs an older nurse with years of experience but you have to pay for those years of experience and it doesn't always equal out on the scale. I know it's not fair but there's a point in your career where your experience becomes a negative due to the money.

What about a phone triage position?

If possible, I would give two weeks notice, not a week. I don't know about your particular employer, but most employers get pretty pissed if they get less than two weeks because that's the accepted norm. If you end up giving less than 2 weeks I would be very hesitant to use references from that company in the future as they may very well hold a grudge over that... I've seen it happen before.

Classc question I know. But I've been wresteling with the idea for sometime. So, I thought I would come to the friendly confines of MadJacks to post the question and get some answers.

Little background-

Working at the same job for 2yrs.
Small employer.
Have gone through 3 managers in 12 months.
The company has no HR dept or company policy.
Already conversated with owner of company, and expressed desire to grow etc, he "empathized" but had nothing availible for another year or so...cant make it that long.

Side note:

I have a week of personal days left...should I take a week off before resigning?

or should I just try and get fired? Thanks all.

Try to get fire in not a good option in my opinion, because it will make you look bad, and if a new company call to ask for references, it will come back and bite you in the ass.

It will be an option just in case you really really need the money, and there is no other way out. But avoid this option at any cause...

That will be my personal advise.

Good luck man..., hopefuly everything will be for the best

I don't know what field you're in, but from someone with a ton of experience and a good work record, now is a bitch of a time to try to find a good job. Good luck to you, but no way would I quit a job right now or try to strong arm an employer.

Strongly recommend you have something lined up before you go quitting. If you quit before you have something then you are going to go hyper aggressive in your job search and end up calling recruiters and hiring managers 3 times a day saying "have you made a decision yet? can you interview me?"

and we're going to toss your shit in the garbage can because you come across as needy and too high maintenance.

Believe me, if you have a job and are interviewing elsewhere - if that new company wants you they will work with you to find appropriate interview times and schedule your start date accordingly.

Can't urge you enough NOT to do this. DON'T use your personal days to be passive aggressive.

WAIT until you have interviews BEFORE using your days....

You ARE NOT ready to move forward. Not until Plan B is your plan A and you in all sincereity are no where even close to have the LEVERAGE to walk out.

Best of luck Sir.

WTF? Pretty horrible fucking post cool guy. With as much as you've struggled with I'd expect something a little more constructive.
