gonna do the same thing as the first round, and keep my picks for saturday & sunday in this thread. got off to the great start i expected on thursday. kept my head barely above water yesterday. would have been a solid day if georgetown dribbled out the clock. oh well, that's gambling.
tennessee (-2.5) 3 units. i'm loving this play more and more. now, i was all over both winthrop and withita state in the first round. but, as i said in my first-round thread, i fully expected tennessee to squeak by winthrop and then go on a run that justifies their #2 seed. that run starts today. bruce pearl will have them both loose and focused. the fact that most people seem to be on wichita state makes me like it even more.
lsu (-5.5) 3 units. texas a&m took advantage of an emotionally drained (and not very good) syracuse squad. quite the contrary with lsu. tyrus thomas is back, and is already looking like a force on the defensive end again. that will ease some pressure off glenn davis.
illinois (-2) 1 unit. suddenly, washington seems to be a trendy pick. maybe it's another case of a team actually being helped by getting knocked out of their conference tourney early. they surprised me with a convincing win over utah state. roy is a great ball player. but i still do not think this is a very good team. illinois has the athletes to stay with the huskies. but illinois will also actually play some defense. i've never been a dee brown fan, but i've gotten to the point where i respect him. that kind of leadership from the backcourt goes a long way in the tourney.
i was going to play uw milwaukee. i was all over them during their run last year. and i was on them against oklahoma. but that little voice inside my head is screaming that this is where their run ends. the line seems a couple points too high, as i have to believe joe public is starting to realize these guys can play. i'm showing 65% on them. i never like it when the public is on the dog. something strange is afoot at the circle k. i may get smart and make a small play on florida. or i could be really smart, and just stay off it.
