Genetics does have something to do with it no doubt but most use genetics as an excuse to hide from exercise. Anyone who can exercise and make the right choices can lose weight,.
I agree that genetics does play some part but you have to take accountability for your own actions also. If you eat healthy and exercise but continue to gain weight then yes maybe genetics is part of the problem but if you eat McDonald's every day and weigh 350 pounds and have a ton of medical problems then that's on you.
My best friend is wasting her life away- She has twins that are 11 years old and I fear she will not live past the next 5 years. She is a heavy smoker and she is severely overweight. She has high blood pressure, she is diabetic, and she has leg issues which causes blood clots. Her health insurance has offered her
100% coverage to help her get gastric bypass so she can reduce her weight to help with her health issues and she
REFUSED IT. Why?? Because she can do it on her own she says. (She has grown from about 280 to pushing 500 these last 11 years) This woman can't do a damn thing for herself and no matter how much you talk to her and encourage her she has it set in her mind that she needs to change nothing and she will be fine. (It's not her fault she's like this- its in her genes she says)Then she has the gall to tell her husband to be fit and get into shape because what will happen to her if he dies? This woman has no idea what this man does for her and we all feel so bad for him but he does it because if he doesn't he never hears the end of it from her and she uses her kids as leverage saying if he leaves her he will never see his kids again. I hate to tell her but if he leaves those kids would go with him.
So Hedgie- to say its all genetics- you are wrong. As we talked before I am lucky enough to have hit the metabolism jackpot. My fathers side- no. My mothers side- for the half. I choose to weigh what I weigh and it's my choice only. If I gain weight it's my own fault not anyone elses. I do fear that my kids will be diabetic because my exhubbys family are all diabetic and my grandparents were too but then again if you look at all of them none of them were under 250 pounds at any point in their lives. Explain why I have been thin my whole life and my little sister has done nothing but balloon up to 325+ pounds. She eats like crap and doesn't exercise. :0074
