They said 11 first downs from flags tonight.....this is brutal! No way its anywhere near the average. NFL will report anything to make the union look bad!:mj07:
What's the number of penalties have to do with the caliber of refereeing? It's like saying all the 7th grade teachers in the USA are out and the number of students sent to the principals office for misbehavior by their replacements is only slightly higher. :shrug:
Here is the BIG difference between the regular refs and these replacements..
You know as a player and a coach what is what with the regular guys. You know what you can and cannot get away with. YES THEY MISS CALL AND BLOW CALLS. But the definition of pass interference, holding, roughing etc does not DRAMATICALLY CHANGE from play to play WITH QUALIFIED OFFICIALS.
WITH REPLACEMENTS, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE RULES WILL BE FROM ONE PLAY TO THE OTHER . The replacements are also NO WHERE close to controlling the game, players or coaches.
This is the NFL, the top league in sports, and the owners are shoving crackerjack refs up our asses. We the fans should not accept this, and damn straight the players and coaches shouldn't accept it.
You can feed me stats that there is only 1.3 more flags per game.....but that does not paint the real picture of what the true story is. REASONABLE (not perfect) CONSISTENCY IN OFFICIATING IS A MUST IN THE NFL

Congrats Jack....this was a complete joke on Both sides tonight....really bad calls on 3rd downs really change a game!!!!I will be having nightmares of that tackle by Lewis on Grok in middle of field and no call...really hope they end this strike for the sake of the game...going up to buffalo for the Pats game next week and thinking twice about just staying at Niagra falls and watching game in a bar...time for everyone to take a stand....This has nothing to do with outcome as its a joke to have them chant BS on national TV for 10 mins

This is the main thing about the replacement officials. Since they don't really know the rules, they're taking forever to try and get calls right, which is frustrating to everyone, the players, coaches and fans.
I remember the good old days when there were no complaints about the refs.

So what do we think about the week four match-ups?

I have seldom watched the games with the SCAB refs, but was in a bar last night listening and must admit Collinsworth does go a little overboard in his critcism. Maybe's he looking for a job with MSNBC during the off season. :shrug:

"The heart of the matter is that the Referees want full-time benefits like a 401K/pension while still being part-time employees. They work 1/3rd of the year and probably only 3-4 days a week during that 1/3rd. The NFL would like to bring the referees on full-time, but the refs are saying no because 90% of them have their own business or work full-time on something else they don't want to give up.
So the refs want to have their cake and eat it too. "Keep us part-time, but pay us benefits like we're full-time"
From what I understand, most of the NFL referees own their own business on the side. I am a sole proprietor and I know they do have the opportunities for a 401K, called a Single K, which works the exact same way as a traditional 401K. I am sure they are aware of that and taking advantage if they're at all savvy or have a good CPA, so they want a 2nd 401K from their part-time job?
The NFL doesn't want to set an ugly precedent by giving in. In fact, they don't even want to negotiate with the union because they choose to remain part time and unions typically represent full-time employees.
Also, because the refs are part-time it means they are paid contractually, and it gives the NFL the opportunity to easily let go of NFL refs that aren't performing. Every year, you'll see a new head referee and others that replaced other refs and umpires that simply weren't getting it done. That's the way it should be. You're not doing your job well, you're gone. But once you get a Union involved, it's all over. Look at MLB Umpires. There are some that are truly terrible and confrontational but the MLB can't do a thing about it because they are protected by a Union. My wife's a teacher and same thing. There are teachers that just mail it in every day with minimal effort, but no one can do anything because they have tenure. Unions protect mediocrity in many cases
The easy answer, and what you read and hear on talk radio all the time, is to just give the refs what they want. It's pocket change for the billionaire owners. While this is true, that's not the point. It's a bigger issue that people should understand is important to the world of business. The NFL referees are trying to take advantage of the fact that they are in such a high profile position and win the Public vote, which they are doing, because we're the ones suffering through the replacements."

The replacement refs are going to get better as time goes on. The main issue that is keeping the regulars off the field is quality control. The NFL wants to add referees to the pool and be able to select the ones that they think do the best job, getting rid of those that are not good enough, or too old to keep up. The union can't let that go, because it wouldn't be able to protect the incompetent, which is a big part of why unions are starting to get a bad reputation with the general public.

I didn't mean anything more or less by it. Just simply contributing to help a person gain some clarity on a issue he wasn't 100% on.
