WHY do we have to have movies glorifying war?
I saw Platoon way back when in 1987, it definitely hit a nerve as I served
in Vietnam 1970-71, river boats. I shed a tear for my fallen comrades
and pounded my chest with pride for America.
Today, I can see middle east vets with the same feelings after serving in yet another "American Adventure" and re-living it at the movies.
Now through the lenses of advancing age, I see more clearly...
War should not be glorified, period. Movies should not be a "patriotic" recruiting mechanism, period.

We have been sucked into the middle east for oil interests, period.

I don't disagree at all except American Sniper doesn't seem to be glorifying anything. Maybe what you are saying is all movies about war in some way glorify it? Perhaps there is some truth to that, but I sure didn't feel that way about this movie.
My dad served in Vietnam too and it sucked, so I'll spare the phony walmart commercial "thanks for your service" routine. I'm just happy you made it and I got to meet you a couple months ago. :0008
Here are my points and I agree with some of what you DM and much of what my good brother Smurph has said.
1 - Fat fawk Moore basically called Kyle a coward for doing his job and what his country asked him to do. He did so while saving probably hundreds of American lives AT LEAST. I would love for Kyle to be around so that POS could man up and say that to his face.
2 - I love Moore's self-gratification attitude of how his intellect is above everyone else's.
3 - His comments are so pompous and arrogant for a movie that is both moving and a tribute to a guy that some consider an American hero. Chris Kyle is more of a fawking American than that POS will ever be and proved so by the fact that he didn't need to stroke himself in front of others while cameras were on, he just did it because he felt it was the right thing to do.
War - right or wrong doesn't mean you shit on others who fought for the things that we take for granted.
It also has nothing to do with liberal or conservative for those who might chime in with that argument. It has to do with knowing when to keep your fucking mouth shut and when not to. This is a time where that fat fuck should have kept his mouth shut.

Amen, brother Skip. I've always had a problem with the "coward" word involving anything deadly anyway. I'm pretty sure Moore didn't even see the movie and he's just spouting garbage. He will lose quite a few media friends with that thoughtless comment.

the movie fixated on the number of kills which may or may not have been legit, dealing with the feelings/emotions in combat and then back home that were legit, and how he died trying to help those who were/are fucked up, pretty legit considered he was shot in the fkn back by a guy he was trying to help
