Each morning I awaken with the sun salutation provided by the coyote choir. The wind talks to me by rustling through the surrounding pines, and my body relaxes. The breeze continues to chat, joyously playing my chimes and lifting my spirit.
The sun engulfs my body in a warm embrace while a gentle gust caresses my cheeks and hair. Chattering squirrels romp and chase each other around me, sometimes startling at my presence. An osprey entertains me with his hunting talent and today soared in a courtship dance. Birds visit by the dozens, coming for a brief respite. They snack and chatter away, leaving only when the next visitors arrive.
Today I descended to play on the hillside and diligently clear away the dead. I couldn?t help but gasp when a small limp body, residing among the dried and decaying vegetation, was revealed. The gray sparrow and black foliage serve to nourish the soil, but I am here for rebirth and so, I returned to my roost as the sky began to darken.
Sheltered, I rocked quietly as the rain began to pelt my surroundings. My heart beat in gratitude for the plants and other living creatures so needing the water. The birds displayed their own prayer by frolicking in the downpour.
Soon, the resident bunny and young ground squirrel emerged to nibble quietly. I?m glad they are hidden each evening when the ethereal coyote trots through. He and his fellow canines sing me a nightly lullaby while the tall sentries surround me on the ridge, keeping watch.
Each day is a gift in my new home. As the stars blink their goodnights, I realize that my body and soul are being nourished and recharged here.
