Congrats, Jack. That is really a great accomlishment.

You mention being a lazy ass. Me, too. I think "quitting" the lazy habit can be related to quitting smoking. The physical addiction to smoking is the easy part for most. It's the mentality change that will bite someone.

So once we are ready, we can try another publicity stunt and "quit" lazy as a group, too.

After two painful sleepless nights this week, I have finally decided that it is time to go on my diet... it is not a weight issue for me, but a health issue. I live alone and however lame could use the support...and hope it's OK to intrude on your thread, a bit off topic.

Essentially my blood has built up immunities to many foods. Whenever I eat these foods, I get nauseous. So for 2 months I cannot eat these foods and then I can slowly reintroduce them. It took me four years and countless doctors to figure out the problem, so it should be easy for me to accept my solution, but I have been procrastinating for almost a year now...

Jack, the fact that you changed your diet and cut out so many unhealthy foods has really inspired me as well. Great discipline you are showing... So for the next two months, I will not be eating the following foods:

Beans, Cheese, Milk, Eggs, Shellfish, Garlic, Citrus, Pineapple, Rye, Wheat, Sugar, Soy

To add to my problems, I have not eaten land animals since I was 14...and I am not allowed to eat the same thing 2 days in a row...I might have to start eating some bloody red meat because wtf am I supposed to eat for protein???? :com:

Anyway...this is not going to be easy. Sept 13 really seems like a long ways away:sadwave:

is peanut butter restricted for the protein? guessing the beans part may mean no legumes??

mama - you guessed right... but i'm thinking almond butter would be OK??? but i drink a rice quinoa millet almond protein shake every morning (not the tastiest), and it just doesn't seem to be enough. i eat fish, but can't really eat it more than 2 times a week...

if i do decide to eat a land animal - where do i start??? :scared

how's it going hippo? all it takes is a little discipline and as soon as you start seeing results it becomes easier and easier to maintain that discipline :)

my update: 8 days ago i increased my calorie intake to 3000 a day. like dawg said above somewhere, it feels like i'm feasting and some days i don't even get close to the 3000. i've even had ice cream on several occasions, i've started back rolls on my hamburgers again, i've enjoyed limited fried foods, i enjoy my alcohol buzzes 2 times a week and a few other things i can't think of right now.

i have maintained 207 the entire time since increasing the calories and think i've even dropped some of this mid-section roll. maybe my body is letting itself burn excess fat because i'm not starving it anymore? it doesnt feel the need to save it anymore? :)

i think i'l S L O W L Y be dropping some more weight if i maintain the 3000 a day and 3000 a day is easy since i went 4 months allowing only 1500. one day, after a beer night, i weighed in at 210 the next day but i increased my water intake and got right back down to 208 and 207 during the next 2 weigh-ins.

anyway, it's not that hard, the "lazy man's diet", if you keep a diary of every calorie you take in and keep your intake to whatever your loss goal is.

onward

It's going... My stomach is starting to feel better and that is driving me on now. And you're absolutely correct that once I started to be disciplined, it is not that hard... I did eat some red meat a few days ago - that was an interesting experience.

Congrats again on your diet - I think a healthy diet is all about balance, and a little "crack" food thrown in once in a while for variety won't hurt you if you are eating well overall. And water is always the most important thing (as you have noticed) - I drink about a gallon a day!

onward - thanks for your thoughts! :)

update!

for over 2 months i've been completely UNdisciplined and have eaten anything and everything i have wanted. drinking too, huh ctown, kosar, terryray, judge, etc? :D

i've blown back up to 222.

THAT'S IT!

i'm back on the program starting today until i'm back under 210 (200 is too hard and not worth it).

SHIT!

i tried getting back on it about a month ago but unless i keep the diary of everything i take in, it doesn't work so i started the new diary again today.

posting results here and getting feedback helps, i think, so at the risk of looking stupid and being accused of publicity stunts, i'll post results here once again.

onward!

Above the Clouds....
I just looked at this thread and maybe I'm doing more harm than good. I didn't read from page one I started on the last page and read the comments there. I started a basically eat less move more diet.

Started at 253 lbs.
Now at 205 lbs I'm 6'2" tall
Some days I go with only fruit all day and have no desire to eat at nite. I usually eat everything I want and I mean cake, cookies, everything just less. The weight has just been coming off. I have BEER every nite and I don't mean one. I feel good but is this healthy only getting some days 1000 calories?
I have noticed more leanness in my arms and legs but just thought it was fat loss? Any suggestions. I'm 52 and semi retired. Thanks

Well I'm sick as a dog again and back on my diet starting tomorrow. Can't sleep, don't enjoy eating anymore, pain and more pain.

This sucks though...will probably have to eat this way for the rest of my life I'm realizing. I have an opposite problem now - keeping weight on with my dietary restrictions! And as nice as that may sound, it really isn't...

Hope everyone else's summer diets are going good! If you need to lose some weight, just eat what I eat...lol.

Sorry to hear that, must be very difficult for you. Health issues are always difficult to solve as well as deal with. I hope things work out for you. This is the serious part of the post, now on to the regular me...........

Also if I was going to eat a land animal....why not start with an alpaca............not a very attractive animal and they really don't provide much in the way of resources other than their coat. I can't vouch for the taste or even if they are edible but I do know they tie them and other big game animals to trees at game farms so those stealthy ass hunters can go track them down while they are tied to a feeder, shoot them with a high powered rifle from about ten yards as that is generally the length of chain used, and then take a picture of them and let the meat rot. So maybe give that a shot.

trick is to build lean muscle which will burn calories all by itself. everyone thinks the trick to burn calories/fat is to do cardio. While cardio is very important for your heart it isn't the best way to burn cals. Your body stops burning calories a couple of mins after you jump off the treadmill. On the other hand, by lifting weights and breaking down muscle tissue your body then has to exert tremendous effort (which means calorie burning) to rebuild the tissue and this process can take up to 48hrs. Thus the typical soreness the day after lifting. You don't have to lift heavy weight, consistency is way more important.

excellent post,dooley....well said..i heard basically the same from a hospital nutitionist and personal trainer...

hippo...have you considered protein powder?....you can mix it with many liquids.....you can actually get it pre flavored.....

and there`s an individual blender you can buy for around 20 bucks........a blender for one...throw what you want in the cup..water,juice,some fruit.....a little ice...voila...you have a protein shake made to order that`s amenable to your stomach and palate...

it has a top you can drink from...close it up and stick it in the fridge...go back for more when you want to...

sounds like you`re going through hell...condolences...

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I don't mean to invade this thread somewhat off-topic and make it about my health problems, but I guess sometimes late at night my mind finds itself weakened by my physical disposition and it feels good to have support...

weasel - I do have a little personal blender in fact! It is great for smoothies in the morning just like you said and I do use the vanilla rice protein powder...a few dates, frozen bananas, almond milk and almond butter...and presto, a drinkable meal, lol.

OK - I'm done wallowing in my own self-pity for awhile. I will surely be feeling better soon :)

HH,

I would encourage you to overcome this medical condition through faith in Jesus Christ.

His crucifixion made it possible for anyone who believes in Him to live life more abundantly and furthermore, to have life everlasting.

HE IS the personal savior of all mankind.

Mat 11:28 - "Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Blessed be the name of Jesus.
