Finally, the SS (=Spreadsheet) has enough data to spit out some college ball picks. I wrote PLENTY about it last season and, after spending MANY hours getting it ready, I'm too tired to go through that again.
Been using this thing to find ATS wieners for about 5 years now and it's had some GREAT seasons in the past. Whatever the case, iit USUALLY beats my personal plays.... so here goes:
Army -1: Yeah, for whatever reason, it does like "low profile" type teams. Like, not teams that are popular. It STRICTLY goes by some SERIOUS number crunching and that means it doesn't know the difference (in popularity) between ..... . say, a Notre Dame and a Fla. International.
Iowa -14
Vandy + 14 1/2
Zona +21.5 (it just LUVS this play)
Notre Dame -6 Well, what do ya know? :0
Minny even moola Below I got something to say about this play.
Akron +32: I was glad to see it pick this one. I am pretty familiar with the Vols. and I cannot believe they can spot just about ANY A1 squad this many pts. WAY overrated IMO.
That should do it for this week. Like I wrote last year - I'll be going easy on these early season picks cause the SS should get better and better as the season progresses. It uses data from EVERY week and EVERY oponnent each team has faced (this season, of course) for it's weekly selection. I made this thang sooo complicated (tweaking it and all) that I don't know how it makes it's picks any more. It also calculates a "fair" line for each game and I take that into account when assessing it's picks.
Oh, that Minnesota pick - I couldn't resist making a few plays ON MY OWN for the last two weeks (small parlays). My results have been unreal. I played 5 parlays, mixed sports (one U.S. Open Tennis play + 1 basebawl stab + 2 college FB plays). The last two had an NFLer instead of a tennis player cause the Open was over (How bout that there Murray fella .. $$$$
). So far, WITHOUT the SS, I hit 3 of these 4 teamers. I couldn't decide whether or not to pick my own or go with the sheet for this football season.
Bottom line is - my own best play woulda been Minnesota this week (I also like Arkansas; thems playing Rutgers).
Good Luck, and I HOPE you see this "Six/Five" (he requested that I post the SS picks again this season). IF it does good, thank him.
